Ok, well, now the roof is glued and painted, and after looking at these pictures I see that I still have some touch up painting to do as well as removing some wood fuzzies on the corners and such.  The camera sees way more than I do.  That conspiracy thing again Augie.  I added the skyway hatches, galley stack, and the rear davits.  Tomorrow is a ladder and rail, some clean up, and then perhaps start in on the skylight.  It's a real task all by itself, and I have to be real careful, as it is tedious as well.

I'm posting lot's of pictures for anyone that has an interest in building this ship.  There are vague instructions and tricky plans to read if you aren't used to pulling several drawings together to figure out one part...and no photo's except what's been taken of the real ship...

Not much progress to report, but I think I know how I am going to handle the repair.

As you can see below, the jibboom has broken off cleanly at the mast cap.

As a result, all of the fore stays etc. are now rather slack.

I am going to replace the jibboom and all of the fore stays - a couple were not particularly great anyway.  When i do that, I should be able to get a nice uniform tension on them all, and also increase slightly the tension on the back stays (rear most shrouds?)

Hey John, it's in the low 80s here and I'm having breakfast outside next to the pond
btw your stern end of the ship looks fab!  even with that blue - green lozenge as a life preserver      kidding!

Keep up the good works my friend.

    Cheers,

hmmmmmm......so what are you doing.........'Bash Masterson'...........got a little something you wanna add to the structures?  in seeing your first set of pictures,  I would have cautioned you about making sure that both structures were even with each other......the beams looked a bit off.   but, seeing the second set of pictures...I don't see it.    just another example of the camera seeing more than the human eye is willing to admit.   have you done any sanding,  so the roof will sit flush?   I would do a real light sanding.........keeping with the arch,  so that when the roof is in place,   it will sit level to the arch........no gaps.    it looks super...........this is really going to make the wheel/tiller assembly,  the center point of detail..........but you want to make sure that the roof is going to sit flush and even on the structures.  your really moving along..........now that your home...........bet it feels great

I'm not sure if this is a "real" fixture (as it is not on any plans or photo's)  on the ship, but I thought it would add some realism and a point of interest.

Yeah Geoff, I did the same thing.  I recently finished my Revell Conny, and moved on to the Morgan.  I was in Boston in September, and Mystic in October and visited both ships.  A member of this forum is a member of the 1812 Marine's and has direct access to the Constitution.  We had an after hours (after the ship closes to the public) private tour of the ship.  We went to areas the general public does not have access to, and it was quite amazing to have a National Monument completely to ourselves with no one aboard but the watch for as long as we liked.  An opportunity of a lifetime.  I took quite a few pictures, of both the Consittution and the Morgan so let me know if you need any.  There are several outstanding build logs going on at this time in the forum which are great for reference and just enjoying nice ships....enjoy

Yes John, doing a real ship appeals to me. That why I picked the Constitution. Last summer my son made a trip out East and visited the Conny and took some pictures for me.
