I have decided to bottle it after all   now that its painted it looks a lot better in the bottle.


I tried to make it more authentic by putting a rat in the hold..... the rat was too big

Wow I love the scale of this ship I may have to look into it.  Your doing an incredible job she's looking great.  

I've made a little progress of late.   all of the mast hoops are set and ready to be sewn onto the sails.   it wasn't too bad....only twenty hoops to tie thread onto.   the finished ones were held at the top of the mast, while those that are drying.......a small touch of glue on the knots......were kept separate on a lower level.
 

 
I did more....even started to do some on the fore mast.
 

 
soon,  they were all done though.
 

 
next was the dead eyes.   I did some looking,  and I do believe that there are three dead eyes for the main mast.   it makes sense...and quite logical,  since there are two steps to this mast.   lucky I have extra parts for this......came out looking pretty good.
 

 

 
now I have to get the blocks and reef lines on the sails.........and then,  I can begin the sail rigging.  to make it a bit easier,  I may do the hoop / sheet attachment before the shrouds......they won't be in the way.  more progress soon 

I look forward to seeing the pictures.  The constitution has been on my list for a while I need to break down and build it.  

John you aren't even kidding.  It had better be a nice Bonsai or I'm going to want my ship back.

So I went to post pictures and all hell broke loose.  My own fault really. Here's my initial pictures.  
 

 

 

 
Let me preface with had this bottle not been given to me for the project I wouldn't not have used it.  It doesn't have amazing clarity and the cap is so huge it makes it hard to see the ship.  What led to trouble though was not the bottle but the sea and the position of the ship.  There was so much sea that the ship was being pushed towards the enormous cap and making it hard to see.  I didn't want to go from "spectacular" to blah so I knew it had to be fixed.  The lines had been cut and glued there was no getting the ship out so I pulled it up from it's clay base and started digging clay out around the ship.  
 
I do no recommend working the sea with a ship in the bottle.  It's mind numbing stressful work.  I got a little clay on one yard that took ten minutes to clean off.  Worst of all the line between the mizzen lateen mast and the main mast came off.    Needless to say words were said.  I managed to get it back together good as new.  Had this bottle opening not been so gigantic that would have been even more stressful   After the clay was dug out I positioned the ship again with a slight angle so the crosses on the sails could be more readily seen.  Here's how she turned out.  
 

 

 

 
Despite the ending craziness she turned out well.  They only thing I wanted to work out better was the touch up of the symbol on the bottle.  The more I painted the worse it got.  I may recommend it be taken off all together though it was the inspiration for the Santa Maria in this particular bottle in the first place.  We'll see.  I'll post pictures of the Bonsai once I get it.  I'm already making plans for my next build I just haven't found a bottle I'm particularly fond of yet.  Thank you all for reading and commenting.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

More pictures!!!  I decided to try and scribe the planking.  My thought is I can scribe it and if it's awful I can plank over it.  
 

 
The deck planking came out well.  I'm very happy with it.  
 

 

 
The rest is so so.  From far away it's ok since it's such a small ship but up close it looks like it was planked by the three stooges.  I'm still in debate about it for a few reasons.  It isn't as well done as I would like but I do like the look.  I'm thinking though that with it in the bottle and with some channels going on as well as other fittings they won't be noticeable   So in effect it may work just fine.  
 

 
Also I'm adding the sealer,forgot the actual name, on the bottom which covers a lot of the planking lines.  Most of this will be under the ocean but I like having it.  
 
I am planning on building two or three of these so I may just keep this one as the practice ship and turn over the better ones to the pirates.

Wow that is a long list.  I will probably enlist your help on an RC ship I'm working on.  I need to get a log up for it but I'm trying to finish a few requests first.  That is a long list.  You certainly keep busy.  If you ever you get back to SIB building post a log I'd love to follow your progress.  I think you would pick up on it pretty quick.  I've only been doing this a year and a half your sure to catch up to me.

Here's a few shots of my latest progress.  Now I have to do the same on the other side.  I took out the stairs they just didn't work.  I will have to figure something else out. Not sure what that will be yet.  I guess I can leave them out all together I doubt that it would be noticed.  
 

 

 

 

No it wasn't that bad like you I couldn't resist having some fun with it.  I will say your photos in the other thread are better though.  Thank you for your compliments.  I'm really flattered to receive such great feed back from such accomplished builders.

Thanks John and Augie.  I think your right the slight distortion and the old look of the symbol do add to the overall look.  It's not the crisp clear look I'm used to but it works.  
 
Took some better photo's in the day light.  Thank you all again.  This has been a fun project.  It turned out great.  I think the "spanish lady" will highly enjoy it.
