I am currently finishing up a union brigantine by constructo and on the box the main sail and fore sail are partially furled (I believe that is the right term) and I was wondering if the topsail and royal sail would ever be the in the same partially furled position? I am just curious, I was considering doing this to make more of the rigging visible. This is the picture on the box

for those using the watered white glue...what mix ratio do you suggest?

Greenstone, I will be purchasing the phoenix and getting started on it within the next 1-2 months. If I come across any issues I will be sure to let you know and maybe they can be adjusted for future builders. It's great to have you on the site as a resource.

Jim, has there been any difficulty with the translation to English in the directions? I think that is my main concern at this point.

That is exactly what drove me to them initially, the laser cut and prefabricated parts seem like it would be a fantastic segway into something a little more challenging in the future. More difficult than what I am working on currently, yet not so difficult I'll get frustrated and leave it unfinished.

HI all I am fairly new to building ships, and I realize I still probably qualify as a beginner but I would like to start advancing my skills. I am currently in the process of finishing a Union brigante which came with a preshaped solid hull (can be found in build logs). Prior to this I have worked with model cars and one ship in a bottle. For my next project I am considering a master Korabel Phoenix which comes with laser cut pieces, including the planks, all fit to size, as I would like to try my hand at planking and figured this would be a good intro into it. https://modelexpo-online.com/Master-Korabel-Brigantine-Phoenix-1787-Plank-On-Bulkhead-Wood-Ship-Model-Kit-_p_2071.html Would assembling this kit give me enough experience to eventually try my hand at something more difficult build? progress is going to slow down a little, work is starting to pick up a little and I have a feeling the running rigging is going to be very challenging for my first time through, so be prepared for numerous questions to be asked haha. I was thinking the same thing about the toothpick, or possibly using filler...I have plenty of both for this exact reason.

The rigging is coming along slowly but surely. I purchased 2 books and have been watching some YouTube videos. Basically learning as I go and understanding what I should and should not do when I start my next build. Disregard the extra drillhole, haha

Newbie here, currently building a union brigante 1:100, the rigging directions are fairly poor. Any ideas for tying the main topgallant stay (I think that’s tight)? I have the main and main topmast done but there was something convenient to loop around. The picture in the directions and in a rigging book that I purchased aren’t the best...do I jut tie a loop around it and put a dab of CA so it doesn’t fall? Or tie it right on the angle so it will not drop down? In the attached picture of the boat directions it’s the one marked with a 3.

Thank you! I ordered that book 3 weeks ago and I haven’t received it yet, I tried calling the store and no one answered so I googled it and apparently they closed permanently but the website is still active. Thankfully they didn’t actually charge me. Edit: I purchased this book, and will probably end up using the PDF for guidance as well. Much appreciated.

Almost ready to start rigging, just gotta touch up paint in a few areas and that’s it. Every step of the way I am learning something new, I cannot wait to start the next build knowing what I know now (which still isn’t much) For anyone actually reading this, I’ve never rigged anything before and the instructions more or less just say say “follow the picture” and I more or less have no idea what I’m doing..I purchased a book “the art of riggin” designed for models. Is anyone familiar with this book? Or have any ideas as to where I should look when/if I need direction?

Would you suggest this kit to a beginner? I am in the process of finishing up my first wooden ship (1:100) that came with a precut hull that I did not plank, but have been tossing around the idea of planking my next ship, and I really like the idea of pre-cut planks as I have no idea what I am doing in that regard.

dumb question, but what is CA? I have typical multi-surface wood glue and medium strength super glue. I ended up going with the super glue and holding tight with my fingers to start with in order to get the wales in place, then used the wood glue once I reached where I was able to clamp.

I am almost ready to start putting the deck together. I was considering putting a coat over the entire body before I begin placing the pieces on it. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to use? I have a spray on clear coat that I used for the base of a previous model that I was planning on using but I figured I’d crowd source for other ideas

Speaking of the Wales, any tips on securing them? I have the pieces bent, but I am unsure how to go about getting them on the . The directions say to use nails and glue but I was attempting to avoid the use of nails for a cleaner look. I originally thought I would start with the bow and work my way to the stern but I cannot picture how to clamp it to get started. No I am not planning on planking anything at this time. I’m getting pretty into the build (this is my first “large” wooden model, and only my third model I’ve worked on thus far) and would like to do a more involved build in the future but for now I had a lot to learn before I attempt planking. I’m also a medical resident so my time is fairly limited, I wanted something I could work on in my free time but could easily put on hold if needed.

I recently finished a ship in a bottle (build found on here) and was hooked instantly, as soon as I finished it I made a trip to a local hobby story and picked up another wooden build, this one being a bit more involved. I am just starting out so I figured I was better off getting a kit with the hull already shaped. It’s going slow so far, but I’m loving the process. So far the only problems I’ve had with the kit has been because of own lack of experience, but everything seems to fit together perfectly and the directions tell you everything they need to. Will post more as I get further along in the build.

I actually attempted that and was able to fix it more so than it was, but it got to the point where I felt I was going to break it worse if it kept fussing with it so I superglued the break and sealed the bottle. It was my first build so I’m glad it didn’t turn out perfect. There are two “ship in a bottle” kits by this manufacturer, I’m planning on building this same one again and fixing the mistakes and building the second one at some point in the near future.

This turned out to be a very rewarding little kit. Definitely made a few mistakes along the way, but it wasn’t bad for my first model build. The directions were pretty specific and told me exactly what I needed to know to complete it. I ended up breaking the mast when I raised it up because a string was wrapped around it and I didn’t catch it until it was too late.
