Did a bit of web crawling and found that the Jarmac is available from a number of vendors. Don't know if it is still being manufactured but seems to be plenty available. This one seems to be the "deluxe" version. Tiny motor but apparently fairly reliable. Motor can be upgraded with a new motor with the same form factor but twice the power. Going to mess around with it a bit and then pass it along.

Anyone know anything about this table saw? I picked it up recently and there is no brand name or indication of where or who made it. Looks well made and solid. Sorry about the upside down pictures. I am not real good at graphic editing.

It is available from various used book sellers but isn't cheap. About $170. -
Specs said the shaft turned in a brass sleeve. I assume that means the spindle but I could be wrong. Be interesting to take one apart and see how it is made.

The specs on some of these micro drill presses states that the shaft turns in a brass sleeve rather than bearings. Should be ok for light work but I don't see anyway to lube the sleeve so for anything serious I would be a little worried.

I agree with Cathead, a 2 foot model is good size for most homes. Smaller models are also a good thing as they can be displayed in otherwise unused spaces like bookshelves and hall tables. My choice would be models between 9" and 2'.

The Gulf Coast Scow Schooner from Chapelle's "American Small Sailing Craft" would be my first choice. Any of the sail powered fishing boats that used to be common sights in American harbors. Yes, shipping would probably be US$30 or $40. Lot of money for a $75 kit. BTW I have been watching the Dr. Blake Mysteries on TV lately. Takes place in Ballarat.

Keep the Atlas. You can turn wood on it no problem. Just clean the wood chips out of the lathe when you are done. There is a Facebook group for Atlas lathes that you might find useful for info and finding parts. Lots of Youtube videos about Atlas lathe operation and repair. The new year is here and I have made a resolution to pare my stash down. My wife has been after me to reduce the stash for some time now, pointing out that I have far more kits than I have life left to build them. So here goes with the first batch. Anyone have a set of instructions for AL's Le Hussard model kit? I need a set and wonder if anyone has one they will sell or will scan and email to me?

I bought this kit on ebay and found that several pages are missing from the instructions. Everything else is there. I have tried the AL website for instructions with no luck. Looked online for a copy with no joy there either. So anyone have a copy they are willing to part with or scan and email to me?

Hawthorn seems to be a fairly common tree in the Northwest. I have seen it growing in parks and along roadways.

Just had a chance to look over a Disar kit today for the first time. I was expecting the instructions to be unusable based on comments seen on Model Ship World. I was surprised to see that, at least for this kit (Marieville Steamer), the instructions were not great but better than I have seen for some other kits. They are inline with what I remember of kits from 20 years back. I think we are getting to used to kits with instructions that are very good and are disappointment with Disar instructions in that they are not as good as instructions from manufactures like Model Shipways and Vanguard. They do need to work on their translations (obvious that the instructions were not written by an English speaker) and do more to ensure that the instructions are clear and complete. But still they are usable when combined with the many photographs.

I have a few tools in my shop made in India and am impressed by the quality. These are just a few small hand tools like a push drill, tweezers and such. I have seen other full size tools like bench vices that were just as good. I was wondering if anyone has more experience with Indian made tools and can comment on the overall quality. If they are generally as good as what I have seen then I would like to know where I can buy more of them.

Actually I have had a few solid hull kits that looked like the hull had been hacked out of a billet of wood with a hatchet. Some of the old Model Shipways yellow box kits were that way and some of the older kit from other manufactures required a lot of work to shape.

A really good start would be if manufactures published a list of out of production kits.
