  1. Thanks for your kind words and showing interest in this build of mine, this is a fine little kit for sure! This kit came with a wooden towel for the smoke stack, but I am going to see if I can find a correct sized copper tube to replace, it came with no PE to my knowledge. The Pilot house was laser cut basswood which is probably a lot easier to work with over a solid block of wood!
  2. Ok so after spending more money at model expo lol their wonderful parts Department sent me new windows and doors. I did offer to pay but they didn’t return that email, a wonderful company! Makes me want to buy more things from them.... anyways I have also bought Krystal clear or whatever it’s called, so easy to work with. I am planning on putting some LEDs in side some how. Progress!
  3. Thank you for your encouragement and kind words! I haven’t thought about inboard planking...why do you think there would be additional frames? What would the spacing be? To be honest I’ve just been following the instructions. I also have the smooth bore kit that I am hoping to do alittle more with the second time around. I’ve installed the exterior nails, not sure how I feel about them.
  4. I’ll be honest, I saw it while searching 32 pound carronades on the internet. The chain is a bit odd...do you think I should save it for something else?
  5. So far I am very satisfied with how things are going. I was waiting for model expo to send new windows and doors for my taurus. next up is finishing the small metal parts with paint and getting everything glued up. I’m planning on leaving the nails and chain the brass color as I kind of like it and this kits doesn’t represent any actual ship so why not?
  6. Next I decided to do the planking of the deck. The plywood was warped and if I were to do it again I would have just used my own. But I planked per the pattern shown within the manual. I also went with just making pencil marks for the tree nails. I used a lead pencil for in between the planks:
  7. The instructions are pretty decent but it helped to look at others members logs so as not to miss things that aren’t obvious. So I glued together the Carronade carriage and let that dry:
  8. I’ll be honest and tell you I got a cheap one online umm master airbrush I believe? The Vallejo Air paint is nice and works pretty good unmixed right in the badger patriot. It is easy to disassemble and clean which was my biggest concern. I did plastic cars as a teen and was happy with the results a spray can of testors got me, however now I wish I had gotten an airbrush a long time ago. my biggest fault is wanting instant results...I currently have 4 builds going on and I will say I won’t make that mistake again, or maybe I will back to square one....
  9. I have it back in gray primer...sanded it down and startIng over. i use Vallejo paint and used hull red and red to make the color, one of them was specific to air brushing the hull red was not...I think I thinned it to much and then when it came out poor I didn’t stop. I’m new to air brushing but I have purchased a badger patriot 105 and have liked it much better then the 20$ air brush that came with my compressor 😝. I have far too many kits already purchased to give up now...it’s rather embarrassing. If I finished two kits per year I’d be done with them just as I retire in 15 years Perhaps I’ll try my luck on scratch building. anyways...I’m debating doing the white/black/red color scheme of the boat...any advice as to which I spray first and last and how best to mask off everything? I’m going to purchase Tamiya tape and see how that works. I’m still working on the patience end of things. also curious how one finds out if there are any local wooden ship model clubs?
  10. I did rub my finger across the tape but nothing more then that. I’m hoping I’ll be able to save the boat from a sudden end.
  11. Jeff - I had actually applied white paint over the tape prior to spraying the red, do you think I needed to wait for it to dry first? If you notice too that the red didn’t seem to fill the gaps? You can see the white along the edges and the inside edges of the keel. I feel like I did something wrong with the mixture of the paint, maybe I thinned it too much? Dave
  12. So I’m alittle disgusted and sad...hoping someone might be able to give me some advice since I’m new to paint. I’m assuming I would be best off letting this mess dry for a few days and sanding as clean as possible, then reapply white, and then do the red? im not sure what happened, but I should have stopped...it went on oddly thin and was not sticking well, but I kept painting 😔 I didn’t realize how it bled through until it dried enough for me to take the tape off. Lesson hopefully learned....
  13. Im not getting better with the air brush 😂 but I did spray a coat of white. I also bought Matte finish varnish from Vallejo? We will see... And here is the base now completed
  14. Welcome to the site! Have you started a build log? Would be cool to see an old model as you describe 🙂
  15. I’m not sure what shipping costs you but model Shipways has the same bender for much less. Also thank you for the video I would never have thought to use it like that!
