After recently finishing my Carronade I took the Phantom out of the box and took a look at it....I then decided to place it back in the box. I might do another Midwest kit in the meantime. I think working on multiple projects caused a Log Jam. I would like to finish what I have started, I am about 80% done with the Taurus, I have a few planks on the planking exercise and I also have the Phantom going....

After realizing that I can’t put a pin through the block due to the fact it will block the rope from passing through, I had to redo all my blocks again...haha! Anyways I am considering this project complete as the tools do not really interest me.

Model Shipways kit of gunboat Philadelphia
Duanelaker replied to Ed Mostowicz's topic in Wood ship model kits
I screwed up the windows on my tugboat Taurus and I told them I’d pay for the windows and door (probably about 10 pieces total)...it took a while but they sent them free of charge! Great customer service for sure 😊 -

Model Shipways kit of gunboat Philadelphia

I assume you emailed them? I usually got a response within 3 days and would receive the part that was missing within 7-10 days in the mail. -
Thank you so much! I was nervous at first, but I am happy with the decision 😊 Thank you for your compliments!

I decided to do the turn of the century colors, instead of modern day yacht tenders.... so dark green (black green) exterior of hull, buff ( I did yellow ochre) interior hull, i did a dark walnut gunwale which I think I am happy with and I chose gunstock for the thwarts...which might be a bit much...I’m undecided on the oars, and mast.

i Have been working on other projects, and I was dismayed after I found some gaps in between my second row of planking, but I will get back to it. I have too many boat kits and I just can’t stop lol. the counter area I shouldn’t have faired...I’m sure I can fix it with spacers, but I might have to paint the hull lol
-
I was afraid I would widen the slots and make for a not so snug fit...I marked the frames and used my saw, cut way easier then I thought! I was surprised how much I had to fair...and I think I went to far 😞
-
Instead of deepening the slots on the keelson, I notched the frame pieces. I’m not sure if it was a mistake or not, i thought it would be easier....it seemed to do the same thing in the end, but I’m not saying it’s the better thing to do. Good luck with your planking!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
