  1. This is great news! Wonderful for all involved and welcome!
  2. Welcome to the site! I too think you should start a build log, it is a nice record of your build. Best of luck!
  3. Painted the pintles and gudgeons, also added the mahogany strips on the side..this boat is looking nice! I am quite pleased...hopefully the sails end up satisfactory.
  4. Slowly but surely...I like these wood cleats I purchased from model ship ways, much nicer than the plastic ones that came on the kit
  5. I just received my kit in the mail today...trying to finish up my other logs so I might be able to join you!
  6. Well I tried a little more paint and stripe...I am wanting to move on with this project and although I believe in the future I will be able to create a better stripe (had better luck with the tape but need to gain more patience). I have to get better at applying less paint more frequently. Also, I’m not sure hull red was the right red as it was much darker than I thought.
  7. A little more work on the carronade, however the pin does not fit well, so I’m just checking to make sure it fits in the opening. I also changed the gun port lid to what I saw more examples of.
  8. I am very new to air brushing and have been using vallejos air line of paint, I assumed I shouldn’t thin this paint since it’s designed for air brushing out of the bottle...should I be? I’m not too concerned with money as all of it is cheaper then the cigarettes I used to smoke lol but I don’t like being wasteful.
  9. That’s not snow! This was the first night...but I got 23” in a day and a half 😢 ...so heated sidewalks maybe??
  10. Installed the rails and the windows and doors. I also removed the trim on the roof, it made the roof too big I think. Also painted the eagle, I was going to do gold leaf but I think the liquid gold looks great.
  11. Welcome mike! I’ve gotten about 20” of snow so far and they are saying snow for a few more hours.
  12. The more I look through picture and research, the more I realize how inaccurate this actually is...I’ve read that often gunports on the quarter deck had no port lids since it was so high above the waterline. It also appears the covering boards extended to the exterior of the ship as well. Also as Allen states it appears they were all planked on the inside as well, they do appear to be wider boards on the USS Constitution however. I also see no where that they stored the cannons tools on the bulwarks...mostly just belaying pins? I must give this some thought before I progress. I’m also curious about what if any scuppers would be present. Any input?
  13. I highly recommend spray Insulation as it will heat and cool much easier with little leakage. Also agree that you should do as much as possible before moving in as working around items is dangerous, slows progress and can damage things (I know from experience). As a mechanical contractor I highly recommend a mini split which it appears you have already thought of! Also, install your cabinets before your flooring that way you won’t waste flooring material under your cabinets. As others have said you can never have enough outlets! Best of luck!
  14. As a change of pace I was working on the “Tug Beard”?? I think it’s not bad for a first try! Anyone want to guess what it’s made of ? 😝 I have to trim it up a little more...and I assume stain or paint it?
