    Hi Guys

It's done, all the frames are fitted and even the starboard side is a bit sanded.

The next step is sanding, sanding sanding,..........oh I hate it.

The Port Side is at the same progress as the Starboard Side.
I don't make many words because the procedure is the same.
Here some photos of the current progress.

    Hello Guys

Here's a little update of my build. I install the aft Cant-Frames at the moment. You can see my practice of the following photos. I hate it to do the same for several hours. That's why I decided to produce a Frame, install it and than produce the next Frame and so on. At this way I had a bit of change.

To saw out the parts I use a band-saw with a special saw band for slightly curves.

I hope that the next update is showing the finish of the frame build.

    Hi
here are photos of the progress before the long break.

You can see the first attempt at the first photo based on the MSW drawings. Afterwards it was clear to me that the Frame-Drawings were not suitable for a single frame build.

jaerschen reacted to Chuck in HM Cutter Cheerful 1806 by Chuck - FINISHED - 1:48 scale - kit prototype
I managed to finish the skeleton for Cheerful today.  So its now ready for planking.  The stern framing was pretty standard although the design concept was modified for the square tuck.  This is a feature that is rarely shown correctly on these cutters.  There are some pretty complex angles.  Its hard to tell in the images but the square tuck is not flat and completely perpendicular to the keel.  It has a slight convex curve as it works its way from the center outward.

It isnt complete yet.  The actual framed square tuck will be added after the sides of the hull are planked.  Its probably the trickiest part on the model but I simplified it quite bit as far as the construction is concerned.  But when its done it should look exactly like the real thing.  Thats my hope anyway.  The first image shows the Rogers collection model with its square tuck.   The frame around the vertical planking will be added after the hull is completely planked.  Then I will fill it in with the vertical planks.

Well a lot more learnt today

regardless as to weather the wales are in the correct place or not i did 3 sections of planking in 3 different woods to see any colours i preferred

the thicknesser i am using is completely of calibration, when putting through one side is continually 1mm thinner than the other so the planking is not working very well

my chamfering need to improve, to many gaps
    stop using c/a glue

but considering no plans or anything to go by - i am well happy

Even though too big for my own build, I could not resist to finish this small kit ...

... and the best: It came with two sets of decals :-)
One in original english production and one as frensh bounty. As the second was rather uncommon I decided to opt for the english version.

    But me and decals ...

... but with loads of softener I finally succeded :-)

    Gun Preparation

Each gun port on the gundeck requires 4 eyebolts to secure the gun tackles and breech lines.  The holes were drilled and the upper eyebolts fitted.  The lower eyebolts will go in with the breech lines:

As a review, I'll be using Chuck's brass canon from the Syren Co. in place of the kit-supplied white metal canon:

You can see a small bit of flashing in the trunion hole in the uppermost canon.  For this purpose, keep a 1/16" drill bit handy for (gentle) easy removal by hand (12 pounders) .  In the case of the smaller 6 pounders, a #67 bit will suffice.  Also, keep a small sanding stick ready to smooth the ends of the trunions.  I cleaned the guns by soaking in acetone before fitting the trunions.

Here's what the guns look like with the trunions installed:

Although one could choose to solder in the trunions, I chose to simply use the smallest dab of thick CA for this purpose.  It gives you time to work .

The next step will be fitting the brass rings for the breech lines to the guns.

See you all in the next log I hope, that will be opened on Saturday. For those that don't already know it's the 1/48 scale Bomb Vessel Granado cross section. This is a scratch build so I'm venturing into dark and unknown side of this hobby, not on my own I might add, Grant and Jack Panzeca will be taking the journey with me, should be fun.

So for now I'll say adios amigo's, see you soon.

A small, but possibly useful update Work has stopped on my deck 'treenailing' as I have now been waiting a week for some more drillbits to arrive
I have decided to start producing the deck clamps 'in the rough'.These are made from 3mm thick pear sheet and spiled, profiled and prebent where necessary to conform to the inside of the hull. This is not helped by the fact that the tumblehome changes direction right in the middle of these pieces. My plan is to make and bend the sections overlength and add the hooked scarph joints to the ends a little later.
I have started at the bow,a paper template was made for the shape and pieces cut to suit oversize in height and length. The top edge cannot be accurately established until the deck beams are dry fitted and the hull cutouts used as a reference. The angle of cut of the top edge also changes massively at the bow as the profile is in effect twisted.
I soaked the piece to be bent for three hours in water, then this was placed in the kettle and boiled up.The strip was first worked in my fingers to ease the bending process. The strip was then clamped to the inside of the hull and left for 3 days!!!!.Upon removal absolutely no spring back was experienced. The final job for now was to dish the matting face to suit the tumblehome.
The second one is now clamped in place and is resting for it's 3 days I will continue with something else for the rest of the weekend

    Kind Regards

    Nigel

Much thanks for the kind comment Timmo.

It's going on with the build. I added two rails during the last days.
But I want to display how make the planks above (or under) the gunports at first.

First step is to mark the position where the plank must be wider

Then I saw the plank with the bandsaw

    and sanded it

Thereafter it must be fitted to the other planks. I did that with a chissel. That's the easiest way to do it for me.

Here you can see the result.

And now some photos of the current progress.

And now to the idea from Mark

I sanded the Main Wales about days and following this I used black stain.

    How shall I put it?
You are right Mark, it looks mutch better. Thank you, the effort paid off.

In fact it's much better to seen as at the photos.

And also I planked the Lower Counter

Hi Niklas and Adam, thanks for the kind words.

It's going on with the Main Wale. I done it in the same manner as John McKay is shown at his plans.
I made two templates at first because I must produce many equal pieces.

Also it must drawn the postion of the Main Wales to the Frames.

    Thereafter began the agony

    Here's the result

    Hello,

after I put off my Triton build I started a new project. Now I want to build the 50-Gun Ship HMS Leopard 1790 (POB) ,1/64 scale
Therefor I bought the book The 50-Gun Ship from Rif Winfield. At this are the plans of the Leopard drawn by John McKay.
I don’t make many words about the build of the frames because that’s often described here on MSW.

    Instead I show some photos.
