Mirabell61 reacted to DORIS in Cutty Sark by NenadM
Very nice result with the clay. It is quite easy to work with it, only needs a bit of training and suitable tools. Cold water is also very useful, because the clay is usually sticky in a normal temperature, and if you dip metal tools in icy water, the work with clay is easier.
Best regards,
Doris

@ Sam,
The copper gnomes are a little busy.
But they can not work without my supervising......
Easy as it goes.....
And the law is pffffffffff?
Don't say that to a judge !
@ Sherry,
Thank you for your nice comment pfffffffff
It's something what everyone is saying....if you don't like it, change it !
Anja is talking the same, it looks good why changing ?????
I've change it and that is enough
9 days off , how do I count .
Take the first Saturday and count till the next Sunday.
When you have more then 5 days off, you may count the other 4 days to complete a week
Then you have nine days.
I can count like this because I'm working also the weekends.
But beware ! this is only for the working class !
Those who are retired can count what ever they want.
9 days for a week, 90 days for a month, 900 days for a year ect ect ect.
@ Robert,
I thought I can hide what I was doing at the Batavia......
Nice picture btw !
You have a nice day over there ?
And because it is still a build log and we are going on a side kick a picture off what I have done.
The first few copperplates are on it !
I like it much better !
This is the way I wanted it !!!

Mirabell61 reacted to rafine in Frigate Essex by Rafine - FINISHED - Model Shipways - Kitbashed
A relatively simple, but tedious, job underway. I am making and installing the remaining gunport lids (earlier, I had done a few just to see how they would look and fit). As can be seen from the photos, I added the PE brass hinges and eyebolts only to the lids that won't be covered by the channels. For whatever reason, the tight tolerances under the channels wouldn't allow for them (they will be completely covered and invisible in any event).
The lids are made from boxwood strip matching the hull planking with an inner piece painted red. The PE hinges are from the kit. The lids are pinned as well as glued for strength.
Next will be the channels.

Mirabell61 got a reaction from Elmer Cornish in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:64 - 16-gun sloop
Thanks Bob,
I`m Feeling very much honored for all the kind comments and "likes", and am happy that my first heritage 18th century ship is liked. Hopefully I`ll find through all the rigging work as well, I am still gathering information on that behalf
I just sliced some rings from a 8 x 0,5 mm brass tube and reshaped these over the handle part of an old square-file, so the brace Fittings work out exactly to slip tightly on the 6 x 6 mast top squares, simple easy without soldering

Thats easy David,
I just hold the square section against the tube inside diam. sorting out a suitable tube. The flat portions are well inside the inner circle diam. the squares Corners are slightly outside the circle. Whenn squaring over the thorn it fairly equalizes the round to square lengths, without stretching the metal at all (only shaping Change)
I still had quite a lot of Surplus brass tube from the masting and Yard-making of the tallships

Mirabell61 reacted to Jack Panzeca in Oseberg Viking Ship by Jack P - FINISHED - Billing Boats - 1/25 Scale - 9th Century - (Modified)
Time for another update.
The kit makes no mention of the iron nails that hold the overlapping planks together. I felt that the ship would really be incomplete without them so I decided to spend a few weeks and do it.
The nails are about 200 mm apart on the Oseberg but do show some randomness. That scales out to 8 mm. I did a couple of test planks 1 at 8 mm and 1 at 16 mm. I was hoping that the 16 mm spacing would look great and save me about 700 nails. Oh well, no luck. I did widen the spacing to 10 mm.
I bought the smallest brass nails that I could find and blackened them using the method sited in various places on MSW but I specifically read it in Augie"s Confederacy log (great log by the way!). I marked the holes with dividers and patiently drilled the 720, ½ mm holes. It took over a week to mark and drill and insert all those nails. I broke several bits in the process. I forgot to mention that this is only the port side.
I will place a drop of CA at the base of the nail forest and cut them off before I glue the deck in place.
I decided to go ahead and stain after the holes were drilled and before the nails were inserted. I spent some time cleaning up the glue that was left where the planks overlapped so the stain would go on evenly. I had cleaned up carefully when the planks were glued but the best laid plans...
I still have some touch up to do on the stain and I will add the wipe on poly at the very end. I have taken a couple of days off to decompress after the first half and it is back to work tomorrow.

Mirabell61 reacted to StuartC in HMS Warrior by StuartC - Billing Boats - 1:100 - started 1/1/2014
Just a quick update. Having studied the pictures of the deck, I decided to go ahead and use a margin plank, so I can get the correct looking edging. Studied the various forums for information, got what I needed, having a go.

Hi Jason,
today I found and ordered the edition: Petersson's "Rigging Period Ship Models" from a reasonable offer at Ebay, hope that shall bring some more detailed knowledge for my rigging process when the post arrives from the UK next week, thanks again for your tip
I would have liked to find a priceworthy second Hand David Antscherl`s Volume 4, like Bob suggested but there are only new books that come round about 90 USD incl. postage to Europe
Bow sprit rigging is nearly completed...
