Mirabell61 got a reaction from Piet in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Thanks very much Bob,
yes. I`m quite happy with the "glas holders", that way it hardly takes extra space....
Do`nt worry about the quote box, it ca`nt be seen on my side...
Hope you are getting along with the paint for the "Mariefred".

Thank you very much Denis, Piet, Joel, Patrick and Greg,
for your nice words and comments,
Denis,
am pleased you like the fitting out....
Piet,
thanks for catching up, I saw you had a real intensive look at the recent posts, thanks for your words..
Joel,
yes, agree, it was probably a fashion of the designers to mount 4 funnels, where 3 would have done the job as well..
Patrick,
I had some alternatives in mind for doing the "glassing", but this one was easy and effective, and because there is sight into the sidewise open wheelstand I did`nt want it to look too bulky /clumsy
Greg,
appreciate your kind words, many thanks for your compliment...

Mirabell61 got a reaction from Eddie in HM Sloop Fly by AnobiumPunctatum - 1:32 - POF
Hi Christian,
I am very much impressed about your chosen scale 1:32. The "HMS Fly" is going to be twice the size of my Pegasus. Your lines and Frame plan are splendid, that will be a fantastic ship

Mirabell61 reacted to leginseel in HMS Bounty by leginseel - Constructo - Scale 1:50 - First wooden kit build
Hi Steve, thanks for your query. Here are a few photos of where I'm currently at -
As you can see its coming on slowly. I took the decision to drop those three planks in because I was having great difficulty twisting the bow planks to flow with the curve of the bulkhead (if you see what I mean). I've pretty much mastered the bend around the bow and stern but I could see myself 'going off line' as I came to the bulkhead curve. I think I've done something fundamentally wrong at some point and I hope you or your more experienced colleagues can put me on the right track.
I've also been busying myself with cannons and other deck furniture.
Thank you once again for your interest.
Cheers

Many thank to all the Likes
Some pics from the finished decorations of the Windows.
Now I have to carve some figures. I tried at first to carve the two sea animals which will "live" on the reling. They are not so complicated as the galions lion and the others. They are named dolphins, but I think that they are typical baroque seamonsters.

Small update...
am just making the front panel of the bridge after the card template and filed out the 5 square windows for celluloid glassing. There was the question as how to do the glassing from the rear side CA would "frost" the celluoid and PVA would be too smeary during mounting. I came up with a solution that requires minimum space and can take up a stipe of celluloid shifted in horizontaly and directly on the rear panel surface, by soldering 6 mini-braces that leave a space of 0,5 mm to the panel surface

still working on the bridge deck and integrating the upper stairs into the railing, and raw-planking the bridge platform. The footpoints of the upper stairs have become a grating for safety reasons...

Yes, the tape is self sticking with a waxed paper backing. As for the plating, there was two was it was done. One was to start at the keel and lay the above panel overlapping the one below. The other method was to lay every other row of plating (1-3-5-7), then go back and lay the other rows (2-4-6) overlapping both the row below and above. According to the plans the Mariefred was plated by the second method.

Hi all -
Bob Marvin has come through in fine fashion, as has Shapeways. Here are photos of the funnel cages made with the 3-D printing process. I will get them in hand to examine at the New London conference, but they look great. Now I have to build the internal structures with a quality to match these pieces.
Thanks, Bob.

Hi Greg,
thanks for your nice compliment,...
with ref to your question, I do`nt know if I understand it right......
so here a sample illustration, to see what you may mean.
The detail "A" is the open side of the landing, with only a small step on from the lower bridge deck. On the actual ship this might have been locked with a small chain because "access for crew only".
The deatail "B" is in the illustration is a short railing piece that protects persons from falling into the lower staircase from the side, leading downwards. This is not on my model yet, simply because I ran out of railing to make it, but I may make my own one.

Hi Greg,
the braces worked out fine, it was a bit tricky to get the fastening pins align to the small holes in the lower bridge, so that all of the braces find their correct place....
Nils
the pins on the upper side will be cut flush with the deck surface before planking this....
