Thanks buddy! Yeah I find doing the rigging t be much more enjoyable than I thought. I do make first time misstakes, but those are bound to happen. So far rigging feels alot like detail painting.

I agree that rigging is an intersting part of the build. Specially when you understand the use/function of eaxh line. I myself had some experience in sailing old sailinhboats from the beginning if the last century and this helps a lot

Hey all, here is an update finally. I've done the other side of the mainmast and made the portside of the mizzen mast. I found it difficult to imitate the sagging curves of the original, but it was easier on the mizzen as the shrouds are angled straight up. First a reference pic I took at the museum:

Absolutely speechless Matti, you've done a superb job with your rigging so far, very well done mate.

I can most definitely see your museum wanting this ship, fantastic.

So there we go, all done. I hope those who followed enjoyed the journey and I thank you again for your help and support.

See you all in the next log I hope, that will be opened on Saturday. For those that don't already know it's the 1/48 scale Bomb Vessel Granado cross section. This is a scratch build so I'm venturing into dark and unknown side of this hobby, not on my own I might add, Grant and Jack Panzeca will be taking the journey with me, should be fun.

So for now I'll say adios amigo's, see you soon.

As promised gents here is my latest update.

SHE IS FINISHED, well to be truthful she has been for the last two weeks but I have been waiting for the display case to arrive, no luck yet so I'll post without the case and base.

I want to thank everybody who has followed this build and those who pressed the like button, to get 75,500+ hits has really taken me back and I thank you all for the support, help comments and advice, there has been plenty along the way and it's all been good.

This will be last big build for a couple of reasons, the first being space, I don't have enough space at home to display them properly, the museum has taken the smaller ships but it still leaves me with a problem, secondly is the repetitive work that these big ships require, there's a huge amount of planking, plating, gun making and gun rigging and so it goes on, so from now on it's only small stuff.

Hopefully this will be a one time only event, but I have a few shots of my first build, HM Brig Badger alongside Agamemnon, both are 1/64 scale and the difference is really surprising. Badger took me 4 months from start to finish and the Aggy has taken 19 1/2 months.

Anyway enough talk, lets see the pics, first up the two together.

I'm going to close this post and I'll open another with just the Agamemnon, I hope you enjoy these shots.

A small, but possibly useful update Work has stopped on my deck 'treenailing' as I have now been waiting a week for some more drillbits to arrive
I have decided to start producing the deck clamps 'in the rough'.These are made from 3mm thick pear sheet and spiled, profiled and prebent where necessary to conform to the inside of the hull. This is not helped by the fact that the tumblehome changes direction right in the middle of these pieces. My plan is to make and bend the sections overlength and add the hooked scarph joints to the ends a little later.
I have started at the bow,a paper template was made for the shape and pieces cut to suit oversize in height and length. The top edge cannot be accurately established until the deck beams are dry fitted and the hull cutouts used as a reference. The angle of cut of the top edge also changes massively at the bow as the profile is in effect twisted.
I soaked the piece to be bent for three hours in water, then this was placed in the kettle and boiled up.The strip was first worked in my fingers to ease the bending process. The strip was then clamped to the inside of the hull and left for 3 days!!!!.Upon removal absolutely no spring back was experienced. The final job for now was to dish the matting face to suit the tumblehome.
The second one is now clamped in place and is resting for it's 3 days I will continue with something else for the rest of the weekend

    Kind Regards

    Nigel

Scott, just go for it, it's fun.

MarisStella, I ment the sculptures that were not included in the kit. I'm thinking of maybe four more, but I need to consider if I can make them. Sorry for being vague.

Karleop they sit at the corners below the lower galleries.

I mounted them yesterday. For me it's a big change in her appearence, but I'm looking at her everyday. At the same time I hope the carved ones blend with the originals.

Mark, if I got it right, there should only be some minor adjustment needed. I plan to stop with the rigging after putting ratlines on the finished shrouds and wait for the Vasa II book. Actually I'm not sure what rigging set up I will give her, because I think of the model as in the summer before her departure, during the preparations. I find it poetic, all that hard work they did only to go under later on. I also always prefered the second act, in the middle of things.
