    Hi all
On a slightly different note a lovely slab of beech arrived the other morning for the new workbench.
Still got to make some drawers for the left and right sides.....vacuum lived in the middle!
Bench top is 2m in length.....plenty of space for tools!
Just waiting for the danish too dry.
    Cheers.....mick

    Hi carl
    Violin planes,good ones anyway,are pricey.....ibex is a good brand
Steer clear of some of the far eastern stuff...some are good but most are dodgy.
Well spotted its not brass but copper...easier to work and easier to blacken eith liver of sulpher.
I shall make the anchors from copper as well
Still bending impossibly small bits of brass?
    Cheers for now....mick

    hi all
the saga of the hinges continues
the first attempt with copper was not entirely successful so decided to switch back to brass.
the hinges are nearly done ...just a load of 0.5 mm holes to drill....a lot of cleaning up and then to blacken

    photos enclosed as per usual

yamsterman reacted to SJSoane in HMS Bellona 1760 by SJSoane - Scale 1:64 - English 74-gun - as designed
I spent a happy day carving the last plank. However, in trying to make everything fair together, I noticed that a gap appeared to be forming between the curved end of the wale (see the curve in the drawing below), and the hull framing itself. I thought I had messed up my framing somehow. But then I looked at the photo of the second Bellona model below, and noticed that the wale shows its full thickness along the counter and along that lower curve, but not on the lower edge. The planks are clearly coming around  that curve, and then tucking in behind the wale at the curve itself. If this were not the case, the short little planks at the curve would be covering up 4 inches of the wale, which it does not appear to do.

So, I am assuming for now, until someone tells me otherwise, the wale does indeed stand away from the hull at that curve, enough for the lower hull planking to die into it. I have had a devil of a time visualizing what is going on at this junction...
