Yes, my posts maybe confusing, I admit, after re-reading the conversations again. I have two build logs, one for the Nef and one for the Minnesota. My motivation for building the nef is to gain the skills in scratch building necessary to tackle a larger project like the Minnesota.
Louie da fly is helping me with ships plans for the nef since he built one. The internet is kind of sparse with plans for nefs. However, there are a few.
Warm regards,
Chief Mark

Even though I joined in August 2020, I am just beginning to post build logs and such.
My main ship model building interest is the Steam Frigate Minnesota. It was laid down in December 1854, finally taken out of service in 1901, and later burned to the waterline. It fought in the American Civil War in the battle of the Monitor and Merrimack as well as serving throughout the war.
Before tackling building the Minnesota, the advise of the moderators and others was to start with a smaller project. The Winchelsea Nef seems like just the project.
I am looking forward to building both ships, and others over time. I am also looking forward to interacting with other members.
Fair winds and following seas,
Mark

Being a Minnesota-phile, many years ago I became interested in the Steam Frigate Minnesota. As a graduation gift, my wife gave me digital copies of the plans for the Steam Frigate Minnesota. Now, after much prodding, I am commencing my plans to scratch build the ship. First, I need to complete my workshop. Second, I need am tackling a smaller scale project to gain the skills necessary to build an involved and complex ship model.

I want to scratch-build a model of the Steam Frigate Minnesota, 1854 - 1901. Before tackling this project, I am interested in a smaller project to gain the necessary scratch-building skills. The Winchelsea Nef is just the right size.

Steve,
From looking at the various depictions of nefs, it seems each nef may have been 'one-off' making no two exactly alike.
Great work on the model! Keep it up!
