AnobiumPunctatum reacted to Mirabell61 in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Update.....
Build log part 52
today is the day where the forward boats deck will be permanently glued on. Between brass frame and deck I use CA and white wood glue between the lower deckhousings and the boatsdeck.
On this part I did not forget to place the connection holding points for the funnel stays. On the lower bridge its a bit tricky to get the convex deck curvature correct and adjusted to the forseen places of the nav light towers, here also used CA, hope its strong enough...
Also today a last chance to have a look into the inside of this liner, as it is now closed for ever after. Like on all my ships I put a short note (description, year of build, etc . ) into the hull before closing the last opening.
Nils
little red tags mark the places for putting the clamps on (whist glueing)
last look at the inside of the hull
below the deck to go on....
the nav light towers are the forward "anchoring points" for the boats deck
forecastle deck
aft deck
deck glued on and clamped down
the boss with the screw is just to curve down the lower bridge wings during glue curing

AnobiumPunctatum reacted to tlevine in HMS Atalanta 1775 by tlevine - FINISHED - 1:48 scale - from TFFM plans
I made a companion for the opening in front of the mizzen mast. The walls were made in a laminated fashion using two layers of castello and mica for the glazing. In order to provide some contrast, the roof is pau marfin. The dark line in the aft portion of the hatch is figuring in the wood. Nothing will be glued in place until after the deck has been installed.
I have partially planked the quarter deck in the same fashion as the forecastle deck (a center plank flanked by two rows of decking). These planks taper from fore to aft.

I decided to build a tow to my guns. It helps me with this colleague Mirek (http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/user/875-mirek/). It has a CNC milling machine.

Thank you Carl!
A little brass work; presented its own set of problems but was a fun change of pace.

Aguriel,
if you build the frames original, why don't you use the original frames design? You can use the pattern of the Group Build for this, if you let a little bit timber outside of the lines. It would be very interesting to see the 3 thick frames at station 0.

AnobiumPunctatum reacted to Maury S in Anchor Hoy c. 1825 by Maury S - FINISHED - 1:48 - Harbor craft - POF
Capstan steps are finished and about half of the carlings are in. It's been slow with other things going on. I opened and started assembling the Shereline Lathe and mill I got for Christmas. Only one critical part missing so far.

AnobiumPunctatum reacted to mtaylor in Licorne 1755 by mtaylor - 3/16" scale - French Frigate - from Hahn plans - Version 2.0 - TERMINATED
Thanks for the comments, the "likes" and just looking in...
At last, a real update as life (the Admiral's health) got in the way. The frame extensions have been removed and she's starting to look more like a frigate. I still need to sand them down to the sheer strake but I'll be doing that when I need a break from the gundeck work.
Here's the pictures... as always, a click on them will open them to full size (or what constitutes full size on MSW). The last two are more of a reference shot for examining things on my part but I thought I'd toss them in anyway. Sorry about the sawdust and mess.....

Had a break and starting to delve back into it !!! Started to tackle the ships wales ! found this very tricky on a natural finish ship. I’m using two types on wood to create the striped pattern, the difficulty lies in the fact that the stripes don’t follow the wales, so ended up splicing some of the anchor stock shaped wales together ( the ones that overlap the striped pattern), one photo shows one centre wale spliced and the other shows the same wale fitted .
