I had to hang my sails to see  how they would look, now all  I have to do is  the rigging,  then some straighting up ,flags and done.  Been a wonderful  journey on this one. Hopeing to improve on my computer skill, but that's harder than learning how to build ships lol.
Thanks for the support and suggestions along the way, greatly appreciated. I will try to improve my ability to navigate through the forms. Pretty soon I will be done my second ship, 6 more to build before I can buy a new one lol.
I think my Pinta  is going to look cool beside my Santa Maria, but I will do three or four other models before I start the Nina, one never know . Thanks so much everyone.

Today I used the GAC 400 on my sails with what I think are great results. Thanks so much for the tip. Reading the logs , or should I say looking at the pictures in the logs you come up with SO many ideals, you see one oohh I got to do that ,then you see another one and says I should have done that lol 😆
The GAC  400 was easy the way I did it,  was brush on a good coat  on both sides of the sails. Then shape them into what I thought would look like wind. Then let them dry.  I also work on my sign , I just have to find a pearl for it.

Ahoy, I pulled the Pinta off the shelf,  reciving my GAC 400 today.. I will attempt to document the process.. So I just have to curve my sails then hang them.  How long can that take lol. .I can see the finish line on this one, and very happy with the way it is  looking.   I am improving a little on my builds, wish I could say the same for my computer skill lol ,sorry to all members for high jacking their logs,  Very slow learner, and the typos lol. But I have only been a member for less than two years, and I had to learn how to spell,  type,  computers and how to build ships.
Ok , off to do the sails later all.

Seasons greetings fellow ship modelers! I have reopened my Winchelsea shipyard and she’s in full operation again. I will hopefully conclude chapter 7 within the week. I plan to begin chapter 8 and 9 soon and finish up those pesky guns that are still remaining.
Thank you again to @Gabek for the wonderful lamps, the design revision is spot on.

@henrythestaffy very kindly sent me the printed version of these carronades, for which I am extremely grateful.

This has been a very useful conversation for me indeed. It enabled me to look at a number of options and interesting ideas, to learn about stl files, the 3D development process (especially the need for care with the supports) and more on how to use Fusion 360.

I can't afford a 3D printer yet, but I think I will shortly be able to send difficult parts to the printers for the time being, given my growing understanding.

So thanks to everyone for chipping in, and particularly to Paul who has been so generous with his time and the prints.

    Tony,
I am not sure what printing companies do but I can tell you that I take the picture that you posted above and import it into Fusion 360. I then create the model and scale it down after I am happy with the end result. The screenshots show the carronade after I have scaled it down from the size it would have been when originally created, which is the size of the drawing. I then save it as a mesh and import it into my slicer where the supports are installed. That can be a bit of trial and error. The last shots show the end result. As you can see they are very small. The detail is there except for the thin handles on the screw.

Great work, mate! Impressive problem solving.  The clam shell idea is great! Nice, nautical touch (and from the middle of North America, no less!)
Stay warm, neighbour, and best wishes.

Gabek reacted to Mldixon in A ship's stove too small to print? (For La Jacinthe)
So here are the results of the print of the stove. I primed it in black with an airbrush on about the finest mist i could produce.
I did no post cleanup on this, an alcohol wash and blew it off with air compressor. It was a .01mm layer setting and it took 5.5 hrs to print. Cost was 1.5 Cents plus paint, 5 drops.
With the naked eye (mine are 73 years old) it appears as a black sugar cube. You will need a magnifier to see any detail at all.  And the paint tends to wash out details at this level of printing, so it's got to be very light coats.
I'm fairly certain any type of brush on painting would obliterate the details at this size. This was your file as provided. If you exaggerated the details, they would stand out to the naked eye pretty good. I would think the print services are being ultra cautious because of the small size and customer satisfaction.

I bought this same model of band saw.  While I love Canadian Tire products and half my tools are from them, their lathe and this band saw croaked on me in about a year of not terribly heavy use.  I replaced both with CraftEx brand from BusyBee.  Just as economical, free shipping and much more robust.
    Clear skies and sharp tools!

I'd second Gabek's vote for crochet thread. It comes in various thicknesses and dyes very nicely.

The only problem I found with it is that unlike commercial thread for shipbuilding, there's no logical system for knowing exactly how thick the thread is. It's just a series of numbers - 10, 20, 30 etc, with (IIRC) the higher numbers being thinner. So you can't say "I'd like a thread half as thick as this one" - it just doesn't work that way.

I'll be interested to know how the thread you already have performs. Just be aware that though synthetic thread lasts longer than natural, it is rather "bouncier" so it may not hang the same way. It can also be harder to get glue to adhere to.

Coming along nicely, Bob!  Have fun with the ship in a bottle!  I know I did and went on a rampage buying bottles at flea markets, etc.  Now I just got to start another one!

I have found that crochet cord is quite good and comes in different widths, large quantities and fairly cheap.  You can dye or colour them black, etc. if necessary. You can get them anywhere they sell sewing supplies.  (I like Fabricland on St. James).
