Intead of showing the same thing . I finished the foredeck . I can't show it , but I pinned the cannon underside , so it manages to move forward and backwards , as well as tilt up or down

Hi, with quite a few HMS Beagle builds going on simultaneously , its interesting to see how different issues are being dealt with , also as to the process of the build . All seem to be doing great. This is my contribution. Installed the stairs and the wheel

Looking good -
I am very much a weekend warrior , nothing happens during the week , so rest assured it will be a while

Got to work on the rudder . In preparing the rudder by shaping the top to fit into the hull , I managed to snap off the top portion. I tried to reattach , but was not very successful. Eventually I attached a short piece of 3mm dowel , pinned a nd glued and that took care of the problem

Good to see that you hung in there . As the others have said , a good sanding and some filler and you will be good to go at the final planking

The smaller bottle I had from previous use , so used that mostly on the deck and hull until it was empty , then started to use the larger bottle

Hi. Painted and fitted the strips , davits and constructed the transom. Tried my hand at the decorative work with the gardens and brass . Came out pretty good I think . Onward and upward as it is said....

My first build was HMS Flirt , before I found this blogsite. The instructions were very good form Chris Whatton and methodical. So I could go from one to the other . Turned out fine , only then I found the different builds here , and realised that a few errors and catchups may have been avoided if I had known better . Definitely learned a lot the first time round which is good going into my second build. I chose the Beagle because it not only has the story behind it , but after seeing some of the previous peoples build , and the video it seemed there was a bit more hands on stuff , like making decks , etc , plus its has sails , which Flirt does not have. I am certainly not disappointed in my choice , keeps me interested all the while -

Looking good . I am following this build during my build of the same ship -
Here's the work in progress with the painting . Took a little longer than expected . Painting everything black then makes it really difficult to get the white going , takes extra coats.....maybe would have been more expedient to just paint them separately. It all worked out in the end

No, I'm just going to do the recommended painting scheme. My next build I may select a ship that has the copper plating
-
I applied matt varnish to everything to seal it . Actually made the different colors stand out . Almost seems a sin to paint all over it
-
Finished the ribbons . Now the build is starting to look like something . Had a small issue when a part of the ribbon that was cut out at one of the aft portholes , fell inside . Took forever trying to locate it , lots of shaking etc. Eventually managed to blow it out using compressed air in a can .

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
