  1. Thanks. I have a Danish oil stain I was thinking of using left over from a turning I did.
  2. That's what I thought but wanted to check before I did 😁
  3. Hi all. Newbie question, is it best to stain the planking for a hull prior to assembly or once it's done ? Asking as I'm concerned that if there is any slight overspill with the glue the stain might not take.
  4. So here's the unboxing photos. For a huge box not much in there 😅. Picture 2 &3 are the mini Oseberg freebie that came in the kit.
  5. So here are the Billings kits I have. Quite a surprise getting the 720 at a bargain price off ebay and when it arrived finding that it comes with a mini oseberg ship and a Billings Oseberg 518. I actually messaged the seller querying why 2 kits to be told he decided to send both as had advertised them separately several time but had no interest. Thinking I'll make the Oseberg 720 first. Unboxing pictures to follow soon
  6. Thank you. It's called a Niddy Noddy ( yes I kid you not). It's used for winding wool/yarn into skeins.
  7. Hi Steven. You're spot on with your guess. There were several in the grave they contained seeds.
  8. Hi and welcome to my build log for the Oseberg ship. This will be my first ship build so progress may be a bit slow 😅 Why the Oseberg ship? Simply because in spare time I do living history displays from the early medieval and have made replicas from the Oseberg burial so why not the ship. I've been looking at other build logs from Jack Panzeca , Von-Kossa and Jason Builder and I'm in awe of their work. Along the way I'll be making a few changes (such as the sail. Will be making one from wool as per the original) and hope they'll enhance the project.
  9. Looks fantastic. May I ask where you managed to get the figures from as I am struggling to find any.
  10. Following with great interest as I'm about to start the Billings Oseberg. I've made replicas of items from the burial so thought I should do the ship.
  11. Look forward to seeing the progress. I'll be starting a Billings Oseberg soon but I intend to make a few modifications (one being the sail, mine will be wool as per the original ship)
  12. Few of the items I've made. Although not ships they are replicas from the Oseberg ship burial. I've included pictures of the originals where possible. I'm in the process of making a new bed from beech as per the original. The one in the photos is pine.
  13. Hello Will. Welcome to MSW from another new member
  14. I will definitely start a build log Allan and will include some photos of my replicas along the way.
  15. Hi everyone. I have just got a Billings Oseberg ship and am looking forward to getting started on it. I have made replicas of quite a few of the artifacts from the ship burial so thought I should build the ship. Eindride (Paul)
