  1. A week later............ where does the time disappear to when you're retired?!!

I took these pics earlier today - please excuse the model makers nightmare, DUST. During the course of construction I did keep the model covered as much as possible but, I forgot to cover it over completely when the heating engineer installed new heating pipes. It wasn't noticeable at the time but a layer of dust was everywhere!!

  2. When you think about it, buying from Germany is no different from buying from the UK if you are buying off the net. Unless the dealer is within a reasonable distance you are unlikely to go to their premises.

Also, if you pay via credit card then the card company are equally responsible as the dealer that you buy from if anything goes wrong.

Proxxon appear to be a reputable company so I wouldn't think twice about buying from them.

  3. Thanks Mike ref Amazon

Checked all the suppliers and SAT Berlin are by far the cheapest. Even the delivery cost is very reasonable.

Looks like I may be ordering a Proxxon FET; DSH Scroll saw; DB250 lathe   :)    I so wish I hadn't sold my Myson lathe!!!!!

Just have to work on the wife now. I'll tell her she can now buy as many cookery books as she likes :D   She sneaks them into the house anyway!!!  :o

  4. Many thanks Tony, Mike and Paul. It looks like Proxxon is the way to go then.  :)

I can't afford the Byrnes saw from the USA. I just can't justify it on my pension!

I will check out the prices of the German suppliers of Proxxon and the UK supplier recommended by Paul.

    Thanks again

    Derek

  5. Hi shipwrights

Over here in blighty we do not appear to have the selection of good quality modelling size machines that those in the USA have. If we can find them they are very expensive!!

I'm starting to build up a "kit" to tackle my next project........... a scratch build, most likely Cutty Sark.

My question is.............. does anyone use a Proxxon FKS/E saw table?  If so can you recommend it?  Or maybe it is too big and would not cut fine enough?

    Many thanks

    Derek

  6. Right then, this might confuse some people, but bear with me,I've started again!

A few days ago I sent for a disc off e-bay apparently full of model ship plans. It was only £2.50,

Hi Keith, while browsing through Cutty Sark logs I just came across yours. She is coming along nicely  :)

At the moment I am working on Victory....... stilll a long way to go but............... my next project will be CS scratchbuild. I looked on ebay to see if I could find the disc you bought with ship plans including CS. I can't see which one it is. Is it possible to point me in right direction?

    Many thanks, Derek

  7. I'm not sure if you know about this publication. I have done a search on Haynes and nothing came up so i presume it's not already on the forum !

I have just bought this ............

HMS Victory Manual - by Peter Goodwin

An insight into owning, operating and maintaining the Royal Navys oldest and most famous warship.

Maritime historian and former HMS Victory Keeper and Curator Peter Goodwin tells the story of Nelson's flagship, giving fascinating insights into how she was built, her anatomy and weaponry, and how a ship of the line in the Georgian navy was sailed, fought and maintained.

It appears to be a good source for detail.
