Sorry Mark - did not perceive this. I should look back to your lantern pages. My bad. I should have known that you would have thought about this. Photo fooled me (:-)

Hi  Michael - the lantern glass is not painted. I painted the interior of the lanterns yellow with a touch of red to try & simulate a flame & filled the panes with liquid glass. what you see through the "glass" is the painted center of the lantern. Unfortunately,it did not turn out as I hoped it would. I may still try & do something with them, though.

A small update - decided I might as well mount the stern lanterns,so I made some side braces from some .8mm brass rod & glued them all in place. Next ,I cut & shaped all the stunsail yards. The stunsail irons were made from some brass & copper tubing & they were fitted on the stunsail yard with .8mm brass rod. I made caps for the end of the yard out of thin copper strip. They were attached at a 45 degree angle from the center of the yard I only have the fore topsail yard completed,so 3 more to go. The irons around the yard was made from black card stock.

Another update - the main mast was built identical to the fore mast, except larger. Hard to get a good picture of it since the height is about 770mm above deck level.

    Mark,

Your ship is looking to be a brilliant build indeed. The complicated stern looks so good. If I might offer a suggestion, though you probably are already thinking about something in this area.
Your stern lanterns could be visually improved if you were to somehow “remove” the gold painted glass panes, though I hesitate to offer any advice here….
Using a combination of flat white (or red) mixed with a flat clear coat – fill-in each “dimple” where the glass should be. Or even using a translucent white would be nice as well.
It would be a very subtle detail but would add (IMHO) much in the aggregate to the lanterns, hence the brilliant stern.
Just a suggestion coming from someone not nearly as skilled ……
PS: Your work on the yards is superb.

    Cheers,

So, after more then 3 years I can tell you that the rigging is done....
Not the total build because there are a few things that has to be done like.....hammock netting ( yep, still to do ) anchors and lanterns.
But as it goes in the whole build now and then an update.
Don't ask me where all those ropes are going.....I don't know it anymore.
I have done the best I can do with it.
At the end it looks like spaghetti and all the time the hands are in the way.
I had the feeling that tying blocks will never come to an end.
Even at the last drawing I have to make blocks.
I think it is to difficult to show it in the first drawings.....
I try to put all the ropes on there own position but even that was not possible.
The belaying pins are that small that I can not put an hair around it !
I try because you don't see the difference with my grey hair or the grey rope
    But i'm satisfied with it.
Then rest me only one thing and that are pictures.

Because Anja has an update yesterday I will also update mine......

    I finished the running rigging.
Still one drawing to go .
Then the anchors and lights and of course the netting .
    But it goes fast enough....
The ship is to big to get it in one shot so a few.....

Thanks Frank! It was a lot of work to fit all those castings, but I think it came out pretty good. It also helped that the castings are very nicely detailed. I must say, though, that it would not have turned out half as good without Pete`s (piratepete007) guidance.

Frames, false decks and stumps for cannon glued in place. The old instructions are very limited and the English translation is worse than a google translator! Haha

    but progress is coming along.

    Hello again
Here is the finished national coat of arm. I am really happy about it and I think it better than the first one I did.

And here is a idea how the real size is. Really difficult to paint all the small details.

This is how far I am on the ship itself. I must give the advise to other people that might to build this ship and this is to wait to glue all the frames to the gun supports until all of the parts for the upper false deck has arrived. I ended up in a situation were the frames didn't fit the precuts in the false decks. So I had to bend the frames lose and refit them.
Now must I wait for other deck parts to arrive so over to paint more figures.

Good Morning All, Thanks to everyone for stopping in, for your likes and comments. This a new one for me, two updates in a week, but without my vehicle(another story) shipyard time has increased. I have completed the back rails which I will show in my next post as they aren't attached yet and will complete the breast hooks today as Mike is on edge waiting to see them. For now I have nailed the companion way and made some cleats from rosewood.

Here I am showing how I mask it to try and get a relatively straight line.

Here are a couple of shots showing holes drilled and nails in place. I used .4 mm nylon fishing line. First side I cut these off using flush cutters then sanded smooth, this side I used a sharp blade to cut off then sanded. The blade worked much better and very little sanding was required, just enough to remove excess glue. Should be noted the companion way had several coats of poly on it to prevent any stains from the ca glue.

Here are the results, I think the .4 mm fishing line is the right scale and looks good. With a little more practice I may do a deck someday. I also found some light brown .3 mm fishing line that I may do a test section on my Pegasus with.

Here I'm just showing the steps of making cleats. As you can see they are fairly large about 10 mm so they were fairly easy to make, that's one of the beauties of working at this scale.  The first one is after rough shaping on the Byrnes disc sander and the middle one is after some fine tuning with riffler file the cleat on the right is the kit supplied one. I would not normally spend twenty minutes making a cleat but I only need two so I thought what the heck. As you can see I have two extra ones that I am willing to offer to members here before I list them on ebay

Here I'm rough shaping it on the disc sander. The thing off to the right in the picture is a crepe block used to clean the sanding disc, this helps prolong the life of your disc or belt if you have a thickness sander. You can get these at Lee Valley they are cheap and last forever.
Thanks once more for stopping in and have a good one.
