Build Log Seven - Deadeyes,Strops,Blocks,Ship Wheel and Drop Keel Winches. Happy New Year everyone! I hope it is a good one for you and yours. Below is the bit or work my limited time in the workshop has allowed me to get done. One thing that caught me out on Sherbourne was the fact I had not looked ahead at the rigging plan. Specifically if blocks needed Beckets attached ahead of time. This led to a few choice words as i tried to rig these blocks after they had been secured to the deck. This time I made sure that was not the case. I created a small loop at the top of the block for the Becket, then I sized it with Semperfli Fly fishing thread. I then secured it with a small dab of PVA glue. Once this was dry, I secured the block to the eyebolt and attached them to the deck. I then attached the 5mm and 3mm Deadeyes to the strops. The photo etch was then touched up after some paint chipping. In hindsight I should have waited until I had attached the Deadeyes to the model. The Deadeyes were then attached to the channels. I have not secured the pins as I will wait until I am happy that they mirror the lay of the Shrouds. I then made up two Drop Keel Winches. The Drop Keel in place. I will have to touch up the Drop Keel and Keel once I don't have to handle the model as much. The Ship Wheel was then assembled. Using a 0.10 drill piece I carefully drilled two holes for the thread to pass through the deck. Beside the Ship Wheel is one of the finished Drop Keel Winches. Thank you for taking the time to read my build log. Regards

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
