  3. Hello Dennis, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. As Roger says, forget "African Queen" and just think Victorian steam launch. That steam plant looks very nice indeed. I think if it were mine I'd give serious consideration to replacing that rather crude wheel with something a bit more in keeping with the rest of the model. John

  9. What an interesting model, and with a very close family connection. Like Keith, I'll be very interested to see how she performs. John
  10. Kristan, Great advice there from Roger and Cathead. I have never built a kit model in my life. I think the most important first step, as has already been said, is to decide on what type of ship you want to build. You'll do a far better job and find it much more satisfying building a model of a ship that really interests you rather than 'just building a boat'. As for materials - use what you have. A famous model maker from a previous generation, Harold Underhill, spent the second world war in a very remote base, but continued to build very good models using the only material available to him - pipe spills - little bits of soft wood used to light a pipe! Be sure to ask for help and advice as you go along; that's why we're here. And remember that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask because you think it's too basic. Have fun with your modelling. John

  19. My dad was my best friend, Mario, so I understand how you must feel. I'm very sorry for your loss. As time goes on the grief fades, but the memories of the good times stay fresh. Your whale boat looks first class! John
