  2. Can't find anything for smaller ships, Dave, but for larger ships the rule was 1/2 inch of cable circumference for each foot of maximum beam. Try that and see if it looks reasonable. John
  3. Tom, one way to do this is to cut a thin piece of paper (like tracing paper) to shape and glue several short pieces of wood down on the paper and then cut and sand to shape. You can leave the paper fixed to the bottom of the railing pieces as added strength. John
  4. Lego blocks are a great resource, Steven - and also have the advantage of being cheap and easily available. John

  8. Painted draught marks on the bow of HMS 'Trincomalee' (1817) on display at Hartlepool. The fore draught here is about 15 feet 5 inches. John
