    The "brick pattern" is indeed the copper sheaving.  The actual hull planks were as long as practically possible as they contributed in  large part to the longitudinal strength of the ship.

    That looks a very good base for your outer planking.

    If you look at the manufacturer's illustration, you can see that all of the fore and main braces run forward instead of aft!

    Looks like it will build into a nice model, but beware of the rigging. From the manufacturer's photo, it looks like a work of fiction.

    As has been said so often before, Chris, the secret of model (and boat) building is not so much the ability to construct as the ability to recover from disaster.  Nice work so far.
