Moving right along.  I made templates for the cabin.  As you can see the first sides of that wrap-around broke.  Finally, got the sides, the top and the companionway hatch without breaking any more.

Next the bow sprit and the stern sprit. (Is that the right name?) Then on to the masts, booms, gaffs and sails, after that the rigging.  It feels like I'm not even half way through.

    John, It's not that hard.

Popeye & Wayne,  Your comments remind me of the man who was driving through the country and saw a chair for sale.  He asked the owner where it came from and how much.  The owner said he had made it and it was $25.00.  The man thought it would make nice dinning room chairs and ordered six.  The owner said that would cost $600.00.  The man asked, "Why so much" ?   The owner said, "Well the first one was fun".

My brother and his wife were here for a few days and we had fun together, but now it’s back to building.

Looking at the study plans (on the first page) you can see a wheel in front of the mizzen mast.  Now to make a wheel.  Using .04” brass wire I made a ring .40” dia. For a 20” ring made of 2” bar.  I then drilled six holes in the ring to accept .02” wire and cut the spokes to .62” or 30” scale.

Martin --- Thanks for the good words.  The chart is of San Francisco Bay.  I used to sail the Channel Islands out of Los Angeles but San Francisco is a nicer chart.

Adam --- Glad you stopped by.  Hang in there.  We were all newb’s at one time.

Thanks Popeye --- My progress still isn’t up to your speed.  I still only build one at a time.

captainbob got a reaction from avsjerome2003 in Band or scroll saw?
    Jan,

Since you will be working in small scale, like I do, you will be cutting tight corners in thin wood.  That is what a scroll saw is made for.  A band saw is really not good for this kind of work, the blade is too wide to make the tight turns. Also to cut thin wood you need a fine toothed blade, there should be two or three teeth touching the wood at all times.  As for the table saw, unless you plan on making your own lumber you will not need it.  The thin wood used in small scale boats cuts easily with a knife and a metal straight edge.

mine ain't no walk in the park either...........most of my builds are painted.   the only one that is a wood grain hull is the Gothenborg,  and I second planked that one.   there's still a couple of flaws........if you look in the right places    to be able to single plank the Half Moon...I hope I can get it right      I still use the putty........one of these days,   I hope to attain the level that I see some of them done in.   work in progress     thanks Adam !

Mark,  The pads are old 1000 grit sand paper so I wouldn't slip as I went in.

Popeye,   Placed wide blue masking tape covering the deck and the first coat is drying as we speak.

Very good on the cross planked hull and the deck framing is great.

    Think I'll stick around.

I probably should have painted the hull first, Popeye.

I’m sorry but I did it again.  I got carried away building and forgot to take pictures.   Anyway I built the cabin furniture so I could put it in before I put on the sub-deck.  I put pads on the benches and backs and added a chart on the table.  The brown shelf has a step in the middle and another on the cabin deck.

    That’s it for now.
