  1. BE, I’ve been waiting for a long while for a kit of Alert to come along. I tried the paper version, but that didn’t work out very well. I would like to try her with a clinker hull. As far as I can tell no one has been able to definitively state yes or no. Druxey had recommended to someone a NMM booklet on the clinker hull. It’s by Eric McKee called Clenched Lap or Clinker: An application of a boat building technique. I should receive a copy in a few days. I am also trying to find a copy of some of Roger Cole’s articles in the NRG Journal . They are concerning the topic with regards to his build. They are in Vol 44 # 3 (pg 204-222) and Vol 45 # 1 (pg 34-35). I think these are too early to get from the NRG themselves. You may already know of this info. Good luck on with your build. Regards, Kurt
  2. Chris, Sorry that you’re new adventure had a mishap. I personally wasn’t very upset, and am more than satisfied with things. The speed that the kit got to me was amazing, I’ve gotten quite a number of things from the UK over the years and nothing had arrived that quickly before. It was out of your control. Someone at the one of the airports was having a bad day. A pallet probably slipped off of a forklift. I’m sure the kits were all bundled together and damaged at the same time and not individually. The kit is beautiful, by the way. I won’t even be inconvenienced in building her, because the part that broke isn’t needed until later on. Push come to shove, I could use the mate of that part to create a replacement. But it seems that you already have another on it’s way. Thanks to both you and your wife. Kurt
  3. UPS actually delivered it, if it was USPS, I would have had to go to them and pick it up. I still can’t get over the size of the instruction manual. It’s the size of the box! Kurt
  4. Actually I spoke too soon. I think I’m good with the actual parts, except for part 46 (capping, drift rail), which shattered. Also found one sheet of photo etch damaged, but I haven’t decided on if I would use those pieces. Kurt
  5. I got mine just now. The box was somewhat banged up but the contents are fine. It actually came an hour earlier then they stated. Amazing. Thanks Chris Kurt
  6. Well, the darn thing may actually get here today. According to UPS the package left Newark about 5:45 AM and that’s only about 20 miles away. It actually could get here by 3 PM like they say. Out of all the carriers in our area FedEx, USPS, Amazon and UPS, UPS is the most reliable in my opinion. We’ll see. Kurt
  7. Any up date on the figures? I could lop off one epaulet an have a Lieutenant for my Alert. Kurt
  8. I was just looking at Lee Valley’s site and noticed that Veritas makes a plunge router base that you can use with a moto tool like Dremal or Proxxon. Looks interesting. It has a light attachment for it. Kurt
  9. Not fair! Oh wait mine’s due tomorrow also. Yesterday it was in Germany, so I’ll really be surprised if it arrives tomorrow. Not fair! Kurt
  10. Patrick, I went back to the beginning of your build and slowly went through it. In these days of laser cutting and 3D printing, it’s a real pleasure to see what can be accomplished with your hands and a few tools and a super human amount of patience. Can’t begin to image what you’d be making if they had let you retire at age 10. Kurt
  11. Patrick, You set a very high standard with your work. I envy your workshop, it’s very unique. I also love your miniature assistant! Kurt
  12. Chris, Thanks about the wood. I’ll be more than happy if it comes Monday, I was figuring about two weeks in transit. With the tracking apps these days it shows some routes that seem a bit bizarre where it at times it is closer to you and then goes further away before it comes back towards you again. UPS has it really mapped out though. The delivery drivers have all the turns set up to avoid left turns as much as possible (against the oncoming traffic in the US) to save time. Kurt
  13. Chris, UPS states that they expect to deliver the kit Monday the 17th by end of day, they only picked it up this morning the 14th! If that is true it would be amazing. Amazing! I thought it would at least e stuck in customs for a day or three. Kurt
  14. Chris, For some reason, I was under the impression the cannons were resin, not that it matters. Kurt
  15. When they first started coming out with the big ones, I was hoping they would do a Hood. Then I had the space, now I don’t, just my luck. Are you familiar with EJFoeth? He’s been building a model of her for probably 20 years! He’s the go to Hood guy. He posts or used to post on ModelWarships. He has tons of photos. He has a site Ontheslipway.com. also. Kurt
  16. Hood is my favorite “modern” warship. I especially like her 1930s look, but any Hood makes my day. She must be a monster in 200th! It must and probably will be and endless amount of detail work at that scale, we’ll worth it! Somehow I think you’re up to the task. Kurt
