Hello Popeye, Thanks for asking. Hope you are well. I'm not used to this SC winter so I'm freezing my **** off. It's not as bad as your winter but coming from Florida I'm just plain cold. I'm sure you understand. I'm looking forward to spring, my boat and fishing again. Otherwise. all is terrific and Charlene said to say hello to you. Best, Jerry

Hello James, and thank you very much for your comments. As you can see I have built several models of the past few years and enjoyed very minutes of it. I wish you the best in your project and want you to know that you'll find many friends on this site who will be willing to help you along the way. I certainly did. Take care, Jerry

Hello Kevin... Yes, it's taken you seven years to get to where you are at. I have known you for all of those years and I do know that you have built a beautiful model. Don't sell yourself short. I have compared your Victory to mine and yours runs rings around the model I've built. And a lot of people will see it and admire the work you've done. I look forward to seeing your completed ship and to enjoy your work. Best, Jerry

Hello Kevin: I just want to add my congratulations, not only for the fact that you came back to finish your build, but for the fantastic job you have done. It was about six years ago when I was a young man of 80 when I started my Victory and had the pleasure to consult with you often as we both (along with David, Shipyard Sid) were working hard on our respective builds. My Victory has been sailing along, doing fine I might add, in its display case and has survived two long distance moves of about 1000 miles. I look forward to whatever you do next and want you to know it's been good to have you as a friend, Best, Jerry

Hello Mark, Thank you for leading us to your build log. You have a yeoman task (no pun intended) and I don't envy you. Your task is so much harder than building the model from a new kit with all new and fresh parts. I wish you the best and will enjoy following your progress. By the way, David (Shipyard Sid) probably forgot that he visited your log years ago when you first started your project. Now that you have supplied the link, I believe you'll hear from him whenever it's necessary; he's very knowledgeable and helpful. He certainly was to me. Best, Jerry

Hello David... I hope Mark checks my antiquated log and sees your comment which I believe makes a lot of sense. With respect to his "log" I'm not sure he has one. Best, Jerry

Hello Mark, Thank you for your much appreciated compliment. As mentioned above it's totally impracticable to measure the davit length as I would have to open the display case. However, I did attempt to get a measurement for you by sighting the davits from as close as I could get on the case. The davits seem to be very near to two inches long +- a quarter of an inch. I'm afraid that's the best I can do for you. If I can be of any further assistance please contact me again. Best, Jerry

Hello Ronald... Thank you for contacting me. However, I am totally confused regarding your question. I'm afraid that I don't understand exactly what you would like to know. In any event, if you are looking for dimensions of the entry door to the HMS Victory, I'm afraid that would be impracticable for me to provide. I would have to open the display case in order to retrieve that information. Also, I no longer have the plans which would also give me that information. I suggest that you contact Kevin who is currently building the same model and has a current log running in MSW. Regards, Jerry

Hello Kevin, It looks like the log entry "misfired." For some reason a previous entry of mine repeated itself for which I apologize. Don't know why it happened. Anyhow, just wanted to say hello and mention that I always pin my spars to the mast; much easier that way. Your work is bringing back much memories and it seems like only yesterday that we were working at the same time on HMSV along with David, Shipyard Sid. I miss those times and I also miss David. Please say hello to him for me. Best, Jerry

It's good to see you doing your "thing," Kevin, especially that your work looks so good. I'm enjoying your log. To Old Collingwood....The HMS Victory has 4 anchors, two on each side. (At least mine does.} Best, Jerry

Hello Spider.. I hope Gil doesn't mind communicating with you on his site but I received a message from you and wanted to wish you good luck in building the HMS Victory. It's been a long while since I have been to Model Ship World as we have been extremely busy planning and then eventually moving from Florida to South Carolina. Hello to all my friends who may have wanted to know if I'm still alive. YES, I am and still kicking. Best, Jerry

Many thanks to Lawrence, Bernadette and Popeye for the much appreciated birthday wishes. We are comfortably situated in our temporary apartment excitedly waiting for the completion of our new house in SC. We expect to move again around Christmas. We do have much concern for our family, friends and former neighbors about the hurricane that is about to hit them. We pray that all will end well. Best to you all, Jerry and Charlene

To Mustafa and Nils... Your words of congratulations are very much appreciated. It was a surprise to hear from you both since this model was completed in July of 2016. However, it's always nice to know that one's work is available to see at any time. Charlene and I hope that you both have good days...and take care. Best, Jerry and Charlene

Hello Popeye... Things are progressing with our move. The Penske rental truck is all loaded with 8 ship models; see the attached photo. All the cradles were specially designed for each model and they are screwed into the truck bed with a 1" slab of foam between each cradle board and the truck bed. We leave first thing in the morning. We are in the process of building a house on Keowee Lake in Salem, SC. Our development is named, Keowee Key, located in Salem SC, so check it out on the internet. Your admiral and you will love this place. It's winters are very mild, golf and boating all year (the lake never freezes).. Keowee Lake is 24 miles long with about 300 miles of shoreline. The amenities in Keowee Key are outstanding and I'm positive that you and your admiral will fall in ove with the place. Who knows, you may become our neighbors? I hope so! Best, Jerry

Good afternoon Lawrence and Bernadette: I find this lovely post from you on my log and am very much taken by your words. Were doing well and getting ready to drive all my ship models Tuesday morning to South Carolina. We actually will move there for good on August 29th. It's an exciting day and one that we have been waiting for for several months. The special cradles are all made up and my good friend Jim is coming here in about a half hour to help remove the ships from their display cases and mounted onto their cradles. It's also a bit nerve wracking as it's so easy to break a "pointy thing." I'm afraid, despite a lot of encouragement, that La Nina is my last endeavor in ship modelling. My eyesight just won't cooperate and with the poor depth perception, I find it too difficult to work without fear of injury, let alone constant mistakes. But one never knows what the admiral will decide and if she wants to build a model, I will be there to help. My love to you both, Jerry

Hello Michael. Thank you for taking time to offer your comments on my log. Your thoughts are very much appreciated and as you mentioned, already came across my mind. I have thought that it might be nice to build the Santa Maria and La Pinta as well. What a nice flotilla that would make on a couple of shelves in our new home. The problem is there are several things holding me back. If you look at the kits of la Pinta and the Santa Maria it's almost like building La Nina over again. The basic hulls are very similar and until you get to the masts and rigging everything looks the same. So boredom looms as the first problem. We are moving from Florida to South Carolina in less than six weeks so we have started to organize all of our belongings deciding what to get rid of and what to pack. Moving is stressful they say and "they" are right. Then of course there's my phyical problems which are the least of my worries because, other than complaining about them, I'm ignoring them. So I'm packing most of my model building tools just in case I do get the itch later on. Sorry to be so verbose but sometimes I can't help myself. Hope your weekend is going well and Best, Jerry

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
