  1. Sometimes I've done the same thing myself, but then excluded myself from that 'game' as yourself and Captain Steve have. What made you 'give up' ? you were on the right track E
  2. Did you find her Jan ? The fact that you mentioned Gaelic indicated you have or did you use Picture Search too? Hint for non Picture Search searchers.. A ship with the same name continues to trade not too far from me ! All The Best Folks Eamonn
  3. Well done Capt Steve .. Picture Search kinda takes the searching fun out of the game Jan you are spot on.. keep going E Great Hint there from the Captain by the way !!
  4. Thanks Capt. Steve.. tis nice to be able to post a photo that has meaning to you. Now give this fella a go... Eamonn

  6. I read the name on her side.. Lady Jillian ... E We seem to have posted at the same time Capt Steve Hmmm some research required for her 1954 name
  7. Nigel... Do the Euro Millions Mate... Novik it is indeedy... dang just when I thought I had a doozey !! Over to you Mate E
  8. Thanks Jason. This little beauty popped up as I was looking for something just plain nasty and hard to find... (insert evil laugh here) Eamonn
  9. Thanks Nigel, Jason and the Likes, I like the result myself (couldn't bring myself to remove any deck planks and attempt to correct an issue that may be in the actual Hull shape somewhere.. ) and am more than happy to overlook the slight asymmetry, probably only talking 1.5mm or so.. Yup am well pleased that a major construction phase is over. Quick question Jason.. Are you referring to the 2 centre planks (1 either side of the centre line) or the 2 Beech almost 'full' length 'Go Faster Stripes' planks? (King Plank to me is one running right down the C/L) The 2 Beech planks were something I spotted last Summer over on Dirks Sherbourne log and kinda took a fancy to it, I later discussed it with Nigel who mentioned that it was of the Russian Palace Style (Hopefully Nigel will pop in here and explain it better ) Other than that I'd be as in the dark as you are.. Thanks Again Folks Eamonn Over to You Nigel..
  10. Ok Folks... Ta Daaaa the Deck is done !! (Insert Happy Dance Here!) I corrected the Asymmetry as best I could though there is one fairly obvious place which stands out, the For'ad most Port/Stbd 'nibble' in the margin plank are not in line, hopefully it will be camouflaged by Ropes from the Belaying Pins for the fore mast (all those following in my wake with a Ballahoo please keep an eye out for this Asymmetry when lining up the deck before gluing it onto the Bulkheads to begin with.. not exactly sure where it originated admittedly, but it was most likely was a result of me being a tad careless!! though I did spot the issue way back when I placed the deck paper template I made in place so perhaps it wasn't all me.. ) Anyhoo.. I finished the deck with a scraper and sanding (it will most likely get some more later) then cleaned it off (note it isn't as dark as it appears in the photos, that is just a result of my gentle wiping with a small amount of White Spirits) Next up.. the Spirketting then finish painting the insides of the Bulwarks & Gunports (two per side have to be cut to the Cap Rail !) Thanks for stopping by Folks Eamonn
  11. Is that the one that sank in the 'Bermuda Triangle' ... Cyclops or something like that ? E
  12. Bingo.. Jason ! a converted sailing ship, hence the bow ! Over to you Mate My First Guess : SS Argo E Sorry 'bout the late reply but I'm just back from X-Men !
  13. That does look better Ollie, sure you only have to rig it now.. no worries there eh? Have A Good One Mate Eamonn
  14. Thanks Slog, I found this a short time ago and stored it specifically... an interesting looking boat ! I'll be away later for most of the afternoon, so please be patient in awaiting a reply (if it takes that long that is.. I've probably gone and picked one of the most well known ships in existence where everyone on MSW, except me, has a photo of her on their wall.. ) Stay Well Folks Eamonn
  15. Is it the French Carnot ? Is Indeed Very Distinctive... Eamonn Looks like someone stuck guns onto a block of flats !!
  16. Hey there Mark.. quick question, what Gel Coat are you using ? hope I'm not asking a question that has already been asked.. All The Best Eamonn BTW That capstan should look fantastic when you sit it permanently in position, especially with the bars in place !
  17. Thanks Dee_Dee, I have that book, friend of mine (Since passed away) did some of the Drafting Lines for it, and another did one of the sections in it (The Arklow Yawl, sadly not a pretty boat, very high freeboard which ruins the lines ) I was on that web site a while back and got plans re the Kinsale (and had them scaled to be able to do a build directly from them) but hadn't seen the ones you discovered! Thanks again for the info ! Best of Luck Eamonn
  18. Thanks for the Hooker info Dee_Dee, I was thinking strongly of doing a scratch Kinsale sometime in near future (have a few kits to get through first though ) All The Best Eamonn
  19. Hi Jason.. there seems to be a 'hole' in my Internet Search Engine where I can find little about the Swedish Navy (might explain my total inability to find the boat! ) With your new info I did manage to find Altair and a list of others in the class which included an Argo !! Brilliant 'Name the Ship question mate.. Just wait till it's my turn again... E
  20. Worry not Jason we are still on the case (was even discussing it over on Ballahoo !) E Is that Tumbleweed I see blowing past ...
  21. I checked out a bunch of Customs Vessels earlier and Inshore/Harbour Patrol Vessels, some similar looking things but nothing identical.. I even tried Irish Customs Vessels in case he was pulling a fast one on me the nearest vessel I could find was South African ! was surprised that I didn't find identical looking boats as I imagined they would be virtually off a Production Line.. Oh Well Catch You Later Bud E
  22. Hey there Dee_Dee.. looks like I caught this build almost from the Get Go !! she is indeed a smashing looking boat with a small Beam to Length ratio which isn't readily apparent from the kit box photo (am judging it from the photo you popped in showing the Deck pieces laid out on top of the plan) seem to have an almost Galway Hooker or Kinsale Hooker profile (I always preferred the Kinsale version the Galway always looked brutish by comparison) Looking forward to what you are going to do with this sweet little boat! All The Best Eamonn BTW .. Sails or No Sails ?
  23. Thanks Mate, it was my measurements that let me down ! would have looked the business though.. Ta for the suggestion ! E BTW any thoughts on Jasons 'Which Ship' ?
  24. Hi All.. Another Photo Update.. all go in the Ballahoo camp eh? I gave the Hook Scarf a few go's with limited success (I'm afraid my measurements aren't up to scratch Nigel, I'll try harder next build ! ) some of them can be seen on the deck, in fact all of them are on the deck (being used as scrap timber to keep the deck planking tight ) have to say they looked rather well right up to the point where I put them together... so I just used a regular Scarf instead, never thought I'd be relieved to be doing a plain scarf join!! I've noticed about 1mm of asymmetry creeping into the deck planking which I'll address tomorrow by running a slightly narrower plank on one side.. this is rather annoying but I have come to expect it and will deal with it easily enough (Hopefully that is) Ok tis Photo Time.. All The best Folks Eamonn
