  1. Looks the absolute biz Jim. I have 5 margin pieces per side to get from Bow to stern, could probably have gotten away with 4 but I was leaving plenty for room for error.. Great colour contrasts at the transom, should look really well back there ! All The Best Eamonn
  2. Jeez How did I miss that log!! Thanks for the heads-up and the link Jason.. roll on tomorrow (good grief I'm starting to get enthusiastic about joggling.. this is just so wrong ) Was rocking back and forth in a corner whilst muttering to myself about joggling yesterday, that probably explains why I didn't get it done.. Thanks for the visit Jason and thanks to all the other Helpers and Likes. Thanks Folks! Sail 'er Easy, Eamonn
  3. Thanks Nigel, I'll draw the joints onto the deck plan I drew up last week, it has the margin on it anyhoo just not individually sized for length, if you follow ! Might have a lash at it tomorrow and see how it goes sure wots the worst could happen !!! All The Best Bud, Eamonn
  4. Off topic is good Nigel.. else it just reminds me of what I have to do... Ahhhh ! But sure no doubt it will be a bit easier than I feared, as I mentioned I'm kinda looking forward to battling with it All The Best Mate E
  5. I'll be caulking mine Jim if that helps ! Eamonn
  6. Nice one Kester... Between Margarine Planks and now Jogging Planks.. I give up E
  7. Thanks Bindy and BE, the paint job is just about there, only a couple of wee touch-up's to finish and it's onto the joys of joggling (though I'm sure something else will appear to distract me from that... especially if I think hard enough) Many Thanks for checking in and the compliments you guys, and to all the Likes. All The Best Eamonn
  8. Hey There Iain, I've been past that pier on many occasions on the way up London River (Weirdly we never called it Thames.. don't know why) to Tilbury and the like, quiet a beautiful stretch of water I always thought. We would occasionally anchor off the Pier, and I would use it as one of my reference points to check we weren't dragging! Sadly it was years later that I realised the history surrounding that whole area.. Oh Well . I too am looking forward to your next updates ! All The Best From Another Sporadic Builder. Eamonn
  9. The stuff is the absolute Cat's Pyjamas .. thanks for the advice on it and the advice on how to get the best from it !! Ta also for the compliment ! Have a good one. Eamonn
  10. Quick Photo Update.. Hull is painted to about 99% complete, just touch-up's required now. Next up for Ballier is to put those 'triangular' pieces between the Bulwarks & the Port/Stbd. Transom Frames, then get on with the Margin Doodah Oh Joy.. Incidentally the 'White Stuff' isn't near as severe as it looks in the photos, it is a very off white, but the Studio Flash brightens it.. honestly it does Thanks For Checking In Eamonn
  11. That does look Amazing Jim, will you put covers on them or leave them open? Cheers Eamonn
  12. Hey There, jeez you are flying along.. took me weeks to get to your stage and that was on a smaller boat (Ballahoo) I don't think you should worry too much about Starvin Dobbin cos when you begin to sand he should begin to disappear... famous last words there straight away I like the pins by the way .. for some reason I'm reminded of Lolly Pops !! and don't get me started on Pegs, there is some weird fettish going on over on my Ballahoo build with the things.. and clamps, basically Pins Pegs & Clamps Monthly subscriptions are still available ! All The Best Eamonn
  13. That's positively beautiful Bud, so solid looking, I like your reasoning on the 5 beams too, reminds me of Ship Construction lectures.. way back when..! Cheers, and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Eamonn btw that Tamiya Tape is the absolute business!
  14. Yea, mine sits proud but as it is painted and the edges of the Transom Planking are painted black this isn't a problem. Inside should be fine though, it shouldn't interfere with the 'thickness' of the 4 stern frame things by much and if you are painting the insides red you could use some 0.5mm deck planking, though that might negate the purpose of beefing up the Transom Best of Luck Eamonn
  15. I did a 2nd Transom layer of planking but on the outside to keep with the Natural Look on my Bulwarks. Looking forward to seeing what you do Jim. Cheers Eamonn
  16. Brilliant stuff Jim ! Are you going to cut Transom gun ports as per Haddock ? All The Best Eamonn
  17. Thanks Nigel and welcome along Alistair, as you can gather suggestions & tips are very welcome, so please suggest away if you see something that needs doing. So I think that's unanimous voting for Kesters Idea !! Thanks folks for the input.. I'll knock up a piece in the next few days, am off now for some serious margin plank procrastinating, my Tamiya Tape arrived so I might just get on with finishing the first coats on the hull. See Ye All Later and Have a Brilliant Weekend. Eamonn
  18. I was wondering about the stern area Kester between those upright frames ! in fact I was trawling through build logs to see what people did for that area.. Worry ye not re the margarine plank width, they are just that wide to give me plenty of overlap to draw the 6mm margin proper which is spot on to your suggestion of being 1.5 times the deck plank thickness (which is 4mm) and some of this width will be absorbed by the Spirketting (1mm thick) too , so it should be grand. What does everyone else think re Margin Planking up against the stern/transom area? Thanks For Stopping By Kester and to all the Likes. Eamonn BTW Thanks for the link.. nice to know it isn't just me..
  19. Yea, that would indeed have been a tough piece to fashion for them, I think I'll follow your advice and 'fill' them in.. the beefed up appearance may well look better too.. more substantial ! save me mucking about with Margin & Spirketting there too, and anything to procrastinate more Margin work ,, though remarkably I'm looking forward to getting stuck into it properly.. weird eh? Thanks for the advice Bud Eamonn
  20. Jeez guys, Batten down the hatches literally.. we don't get too many Tropical Revolving Storms up these parts, much less category 5's Stay Safe Folks OK Eamonn
  21. I think Alistair has it Ollie, that would be the first example in the diagram of Blocks & Tackle above. Cheers Eamonn
  22. Hi again Mark, so this is where you have been hiding I was following along the Lady Anne, and you vanished ! I see your time has been well spent as this build is simply beautiful ! it has been a pleasure to go through the previous pages and catch up ! Take Care Mate Eamonn
  23. Hi Ollie, re the Block & Tackle, I think the Knot end of the rope should be made fast to the bottom of the other block (see photo attached) hope this was of help ! All The Best Eamonn
  24. Re Joes first photo of Unicorn converted to HMS Fox.. interesting wee figurehead on her ! but I guess a Unicorn wouldn't be right ! Sorry for cutting into your build log Mike, but I couldn't resist All The Best Guys Eamonn
  25. Hey There Nigel, I might just address those little wee Transom corners spaces with wood now that you mention them, particularly as I'm doing 'Spirketting' (right word then.. ) though it should fit in there comfortably, they are odd fiddly looking spaces all the same, they seem to be part of the transom design mind you, but that design isn't allowing for my inspired adaptions.. The Margin Planking is only laid down on top of each other, they aren't cut to correct length yet as I do indeed want to scarf joint them! there is plenty of overlap there at the mo. Oh Yea.. Margin Planking is a delight.. am just amazed everyone isn't doing it !!!!! am going to recommend it to all my friends on MSW here (am a big fan of spreading the misery you see.. ) BTW I never take your Suggestions as Criticism.. you are safe enough to suggest away ! All The Best Nigel Eamonn
