Good question Stergios!  I'd suggest looking at the pump kit, its very cheap and offers a big improvement on the kit supplied items - C87160 Elm Tree Pumps, 1:64 Scale

Can't remember whether you had decided to use the aftermarket belaying pins (they are a huge improvement in the kit supplied stuff) - C86001 Belaying Pin 9.75x1.5mm Walnut

Also consider getting some of the small eyebolts, these are pretty useful (for making hooks if you want, handles on the carronade screw, etc).  - C83505 Brass Etched Eyelet 0.3mm (250)

Part references are from the CMB site.  Just a few suggestions...

Thank you very much for your interest and your kind words, guys.

Sorry for not having made myself clear enough. The parts of the mast have to be glued together first. Using a rectangular block of wood could be helpful with the shaping. Here are the six parts:

Here you can see the height of the mast:

BTW, the first planking is done. Next is filling and sanding the hull.

It seems, Amati is very generous with the kit supplied material:

Well, it's not enough for a second Endeavour, but enough for planking the hull of a small vessel.

Something I've meant to do before now but kept forgetting, was show the planking size with a reference item. When I purchased this ship, I did not realize how small the width of the planks would be (bearing in mind this is my second purchase). Since it's a 1/64 scale, the full scale planks would be in the 8” to 10” width if I calculated this correctly.

Today, I completed the starboard side belt B planking. I believe I'm officially 50% complete on planking the hull based on the ship having four belts.

While I was waiting for my replacement plank bender to arrive, I thought I would work on something else, which I thought would be the bowsprit. I pulled out the wood and drawing stared at it for a while and promptly place it back in the box.  what a complex piece of wood. I'll hold off on tackling that job for a while – yes, it completely intimidated me for the time being so I went back to planking without the tool.

Now I need to plan out belt C by measuring the width of eight planks on the plans and see how it compares to the hull. It looks like I will use 5/32" boards for this belt and maybe a stealer or two according to the plans.

Am guessing you would recommend a plank bender then..

Are they pretty much all the same (just 'branded' differently) do you know ?

Great build by the way, hope you don't mind me sneaking the question in .. :)

    hello everyone it's me again

spent 10 hours on the build today, lol i expected to have 1/2 finished the whole lot by now, not still putting pipe work on the smoke stack

why oh why can they not get some things right, where the white boxes are that i have put in, they sit above a platform, there is meant to be a lift there, that goes up to the search light platform, dam it was to late for me to rectify it, even the PE kit does not detail it, so the Bismarck wont be sailing with it

Tomorrow i will try to have this area finished, up to the stage of attaching the two small hangers

Eamonn, I hoped that it would turn out well, but there were sure times when I had my doubts.

Rusty and Grant, the dental work didn't increase my modeling time as much as it cut down my golf time.

    Tell me about it Eamonn
I won't say they are that complicated but if everything doesn't fit perfectly they just won't spray properly
And the needles in them are as sharp as any tattoo gun

So this is my third attempt which may pass muster, thinking its probably well worth the effort to work through this although it does feel a little like jumping in at the deep end.  Made the collar and the end loops with false splices, and then served the collar in between.  Tried a few times to serve the eye but have not been successful yet!  However, as Alistair notes above its really not that visible at all so this is a corner I'll cut for now until I get more proficient.  GS Hypo glue worked really well as others have recommended.  Second photo is trial installation and I'll hold off until I've made the second collar.  Once these are installed I'll probably put some clear sealer in to help get rid of any fuzzies, but they're really only noticeable in the photos.  Hopefully I'll get better with experience.

Been very busy and no time for anything
I have bought a new airbrush though with multiple nozzles and needles so it will work properly unlike my old one where I mixed nozzles and needles
    That just don't work
I am getting a fine nozzle and needle for that so when everything arrives I should be able to do everything
So I am waiting for my new airbrush to arrive before I do a lot more

A big step forward. The lower hull planking on the port side has been done. This was the big test for the success of the trial and error correction process on the hull framing. With no more than a couple of the usual very slight adjustments to the framing, the planking went on smoothly. A big sigh of relief.

I did change my plans somewhat. For a variety of reasons, I decided not to do the area below the wales and above the copper in natural boxwood. That area will now be painted black. As a result, I did the entire lower hull with basswood planking. I also concluded that my only goals were to finish with a well faired hull with a smooth surface. This led  me to cover the framing with what can only be described as a patch work of crazy quilt planking, rather than following strict prototype planking patterns. This allowed me to cover the area rather quickly and easily.

After a lot of sanding (sandpaper is your good friend) and even some use of filler (ugh!), I was quite pleased with the result and see no reason to do the other side any differently. The starboard planking will be the next step.

    good evening everyone

an enjoyable day for me, as i now start doing things with the build that are not in the kit, yep i ques that's scratch building, there is a lot of pipe work extra to be put on, i will do the big bigs
also there was nothing to secure the cranes, so i have just put a small tripod in to give the impression that the davit would be sceured

I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and well wishes for my brother. My heart is saddened, beyond words, to report that he passed away this afternoon.

I know this is a build log for my ship, but I would like to post one photo as a mini tribute to him - my favourite photo of him:

    Build time 30 hours,

having sorted my thread out today, i feel much better about it
another 3 hours on the build this evening, lol - not much to show for it, the PE work takes some getting used to, the folding and keeping the correct shape when attaching
    air intake vents in
    searchlight gantry fitted,
the upper walkway built and fitted, the other end attaches to the forward structure, and i think it support one of the masts

Thanks for the Cloth/Grain tip by the way!

Today's progress: all the channels permanently glued in place.
Starboard  chain links and custom made long chain (closed) loops hanging from the relative channel.
Next steps: primer application, painting and final pinning on the hull.
