Hi, I am new to model ship building, I recently retired, after being semi retired for 5 years (worked almost as many hours semi retired) but now I have time, I am working on the MS Rattlesnake, and have the MS Morgan on the shelf, I plan to modify or kit bash, also plan for the short term to paint. I can see that it will be necessary to have a supply of wood on hand, looking for suggestions on what thicknesses are the most common and also suggestions on quantities. I have a vintage Inca #159 model table saw, certainly not a Barnes, but it is fairly accurate. Thanks for suggestions and comments. This is a great site, I cannot believe the amount of information available. Ed

agree with the other opinions works great for thin softer woods, you might also look at their TruSander, I use that more than the chopper ED -

Ron, surprised to hear that the top is only 1/2" thick, other than that it looks very sturdy, do you have an idea on the weight of the bench, sure you will get a lot of use out of it Ed -
Not a good situation, but it would be a shame to use such inferior material on a great build, hope the problem is resolved quickly, know you are itching to get going Ed

I am also building the MS Rattlesnake but I am a bit behind you, I just finished the gun port framing, I can appreciate the quality of your work, she is looking real nice, your choice of colors is especially good, what brand of paint and what colors did you use, keep up the good work Ed

Ron, I have followed your build since the beginning, I often reread the entire log as an inspiration and I always learn something new, I am so glad you have decided to continue, to create such a great model with so few tools is a testament to your craftsmanship and your problem solving abilities Ed

Glad to see you back in the shop, I find this small model quite interesting, can't wait to see the finished product, just a quick question on the Vallejo paint, do you know how long you can keep it before it goes bad?

I believe that is a misprint, most of the build logs on this ship use a 1/32" thick strip for the batten, the kit includes 1/32" x 3/32" strips for the upper planks and ceiling, perhaps this is where the mistake happened using the width instead of the thickness, they are what I used to check for fairing. The Rattlesnake makes a great build and when completed you are ready for just about any model. Good Luck with it Ed
