A small update at last.  I've been having some computer problems (Windows died) but all seems well now - that's why this update is a bit late.

Last Wednesday at the museum I got a little done, but spent most of my time talking to visitors and discussing the museum with one of the staff, rsther than in modelling.  Never mind - there's always next time!

Most of the hardware in now fitted to the mast and I must say I'm rather pleased with the overall look.  Everything is just sitting the loose at the moment.  Hopefully I can get a bit of serious rigging done next time I'm in.

    Hello mates,
Now I propose you the second part of middle-decks realisation, in the aft area. These are pictures of the beginning. To ensure an absolute parallelism between beams, I placed them in their whole lenght, then I cut their central portion. I made no hanging knee - but only a simple vertical support - because the main deck will be here covered and only a few details will be visible. Among them, no hanging knee!

Also in the aft castle, the external edge of the middle deck will be joined to the bulwark's rail, so it must protrude a bit from the hull.

    Regards
    Alex

It's good to see that your dead eyes have arrived, can't wait to see what you do with them.

Not too long to wait I hope.

A bit more work done on the bowsprit and jib boom, a piece of brass has been added to the bowsprit to represent the lead lining.  Also the sprit sail yard sling saddle has been added.

The jib boom has been glued to the bowsprit and the centre part of the two has been painted black, the rest will be varnished.

In the A.O.T.S book there is a diagram of a fish davit, can anyone tell me what this is and where it goes?  It is shown on the same page as the bowsprit and jib boom, so I presume it goes in this area somewhere.  Your help in this matter would be much appreciated as I have no idea where this goes.

    Thanks.

    Regards Phil

it quite possible Sarah.......they like to eat as well.   when my son and I were climbing on those rocks at low tide,  there were way too many for us to gather them all.   we even caught a crab.......but a seagull took it away from us.  we watched it pick it up and fly over the rocks.  he dropped it,  and it broke it's shell.........the gull then landed and ate it!   so cool!

thanks Michael....I guess the answer to your question is the same as Sarah's......but yea......they do get around.  they're just out looking for food.

I have to work tomorrow.......it's very late for me.........a huge thank you to every one else who commented....I really appreciate the good words.  even 'I' am impressed with how it came out     there are still a couple more thing i want to do,  and then it will be finished.  the Phylly C won't take much to finish her......and then I can finish the AmericA build.     the Goth is waiting.   thanks again!

the lobsters look great! I like the starfish - but would they really have caught one in each trap? I'm still on the fence on the weathering - it is definitely well executed, but I just feel sad for ships that look unloved.

I wouldn't call her "unloved"..... She's got lots of character, and she looks ready to put in a hard day's work. That's how they look in real life... While some of us prefer that "new boat smell" fresh out of the showroom, it's nice to see a few with some "dings" and scuffs.

Ah, but she's out and working.  She'll be hosed down when she gets to dock and sells all those lobsters.
Of course Popeye will have to keep some for his own dinner.

    Good work Popeye.

she's looking great kats........you take care of yourself.....back problems are not good to ignore.   My admiral is disabled due to back problems.....I know how you must feel.   do a little at a time........don't rush.   don't worry about forgetting stuff......by now,  it's engrained into your memory......that is, if the ship isn't already built in your mind    always a treat to see!

    Hi Mainstay
I think I may be responsible for starting the Niagara Club !!.
It is intended as humour but it is real in that we do watch out for each other and help wherever we can.
Having said that you are most welcome to join
As Rich said the best thing you can do is start you own build log

Ouch! Bad luck with the bowsprit Sarah, but as the guys have already said, you can make it even better second time around. I don't want to think about how many times I've nearly snapped the bowsprit doing the rigging on my Victory. Don't lose heart - you're doing a great job!

Thank you Harvey that helps more than you know.

So I made an oopsie and broke my bowsprit and the rigging running to it. Sending husband to hobby store to get more rigging line (ran out with all my mistakes and overages).

Also realized I said the size of my cleats wrong. Stupid fingers.... They are running about 3 feet long since they are just a tad over 1/4 inch on my model

Thanks guys for all the encouragement.

Took a break from this ship tonight after the mistake and worked on a canoe (inspired by Keith aka tmc)

    Hello all,

these picture show the complete middle deck in the fore area. It protrudes a bit out of hull's shape because it will be connected up to the gunwale. The lateral profile of the middle deck, in fact, is also the edge of the lower external frame as shown in the paintings above.

Thanks Michael.  It does take some time, but it helps to be retired.  However, with a real boat, a model ship, raquet sports, grandkids, etc. there is never enough time.   But it's better and more fun than sitting in a rocking chair.  Don't worry that you've a long way to go. You know better than most that doing something well is a worthy goal.  Cheers, Gil

If at first you don't succeed... try, try, try......try.....try............**** it, go and get drunk.

    Isn't that how it goes?
