    Hi Harley!
Haha, women look at things differently. I think I have a very strong "woman" gene when it comes to some things.  I like "pretty" stuff as mentioned in my opening.  I do a lot of stuff to please my wife and daughter...and other women haha.  I do other "girly" stuff. When I'm not working on my motorcycle, I'm cross stitching haha.  Here's a sample of that.

NAPA Genuine Auto Parts stores that have a paint department can mix and fill any color you want to choose from (their color chip book) into a spray paint can. The cost is reasonable as well. Sometimes when you're trying to match a color, take a sample with you and give them a try.

I agree. I wish they had more colors. Another thing that I've done, just to show how much a really gaf about accuracy, if I'm painting something big, like these huge 1/200 hulls, the airbrush doesn't cut it.  And the amount of paint required is huge.  I go to Home Depot and get a color close to what I want in a rattle can, and all it takes is one.  Look at the first picture on this blog of the hull. All done with that paint. I have a self filled with rattle cans that "come close".  Good enough for me.

    Hi everyone,
Not a good night! Lots of fidgeting and reworking. Pontos supplied PE for the window frames shown here:

I don't just like to put that up there without removing the plastic and making a "room", so I removed the entire area.  When I went to do the same with the rear windows, the window "frames" pretty much got destroyed.  No way to file all those little squares and make them look even. So I got rid of the frames and made my own with some plastic strips.  Here's the result:

Not great, but a hell of a lot better than leaving them closed and looking like...plastic.
The next parts also required lots of surgery:

And here's the stuff painted without all the pretty stuff yet.  That's tomorrow.
    Hope you like!
    Ed

Salt, my friend, I think you just killed my hobby budget. My Commodore has been after me to do a "don't paint the PE" project for some time. She just saw your latest project which, if I may add, is outstanding. She really likes it and I'm getting that look. We all know what that look means🙄
    Thanks for sharing your log

Actually, I believe it's not Deck Blue (20-B) but Navy blue (5-N or 5-NB).  Measure 22 used Ocean Gray (5-O) above the main deck level, then Haze Gray (5-H) for the vertical surfaces above the main deck.

There's all sorts of debates on how to model the difference between the steel decks in 20-B and the wooden decks stained in 20-B.  There ae similar issues on just what the non-skid ought to look like, too.  For WWII, I kind of like a 50-50 of a panzer gray and NATO black.  Your Mileage Will Vary.

Measure 22 uses the darker Nay blue than the very bluish Sea Blue of Measure 12.  Now, a lot of late war WesPac ships used Measure 21, an overall Blue pattern that is a modeler's nightmare--all verticals in Navy Blue and horizontals in Deck Blue.  Not even  white countershading to break things up.

Oh, if you want to confuse casual obervers, the signalmen flats had russet linoleum.

A bit late to join, I see you've nearly finished butts. Sorry to hear about your loss, my sincere condolensces.

I had the same feeling before I did my first weathering. It was easier than I thought, you only need to grow a pair of the proverbial balls

Today I painted above the waterline. I understand it’s suppose the be deck blue and haze grey. However I hate the way deck blue looks on the hull, it’s so dark. So I went with all haze grey.
    First was to mask.

I used mission models paint. I have to say it went on really nice.

then just peel off the tape and let dry.  It’s so satisfying peeling off tape.

I went with the ak interactive hull red.
First thing to do was mask off the waterline with 6mm tape.  8mm would have been more accurate but all I had was 6mm and 10mm.

it came out ok, I’m happy. Normally I would keep the masking tape on there until I painted above the waterline. I did not want to leave the masking tape on there all week though.

Hi everyone.  Just a quick update on my new build.  Black is a real pain! Keeping it clean is awful. But the black/gold combo looks awesome to me.  Hope you agree.

    Multiple sub-structures being built:
I have found myself working on a multitude of different structures simultaneously. All this was leading up to a point where I could prime as many sub-assemblies as possible at one time.
A word about PE. I used the Small Shop bending tool for most PE applications. Small strips of plastic were inserted to strengthen some of the joints like the catapults and the cranes. Gator Grip Thin is used for initial PE bonding followed by some spot welding with CA for strength.
As the various structures were assembled, all were checked carefully for fit, seams, and any surfaces in need of attention. Tamiya Putty and Mercury Adhesives Thick were used where patching was called for. I used Mercury Adhesives CA in various strengths throughout this project. The Tamiya Putty is pretty foul smelling to me but works well.

Folks, I apologize for this hodge podge of pictures, the preview showed all ok.
Alaska will be better than the log. I think I will just finish the model without having log headaches and, hopefully, be able to display a creditable model.
