Hi Patrick
You've build a really nice ship, one to be proud of.
The added work really shows on the model.

All big thanks from a beginner! The first attempt to use a gas burner was successful! ( in my opinion).

WBlakeny reacted to Michiel in Prins Willem 1650 by Michiel - 1:50 - POB Zeeland ship from own plans
During the vacation I did some carving on the figurehead...
The tail of the lion curls through the next piece.
This is the first version I made long ago, when I still though one should use soft wood for carving
Best,
Michiel

Finally, about a year after our move I managed to get the workshop back in place
one workbench for ships
and one, with buildin power outlets for working on parts
At the moment I'm working on the bow, the first few pieces:

WBlakeny reacted to FifeModels in Sovereign of the Seas by Dominic - Deagostini - Approximate Scale 1:84 - 12 Month partwork
Hello.
Just a very quick update before I move to the back bench for a few months.
I just tested out my mounting bolts on a test base. (A spare section of floating shelf I had laying around) Seems to be a very solid and stable mount.
I will be leaving this now for a few months to stock up on parts, in the mean time, I will be starting a new project to tide me over: AL's Bluenose II.
Thanks for looking in.

WBlakeny got a reaction from ccoyle in Corsair by WBlakeny - FINISHED - 1:32 - SMALL - Bermuda boat - First scratch build
I progressed on the cabin.
I made the hatches. They were used to store the cooking gear and other stuff.
First i had to make some dummy beams to provide some support for the hatches. I made those from some scrap plywood on which i matched the curve of the cabin walls.
I glued them in place and let them dry overnight.
After marking the middle of the cabin with the laser i placed some cherry planks.
Then i filled the open spaces with the maple planks. I had to to taper 5 planks on each side in order to fill it up nicely.
Then using a scraper, and sanding with different grits, I obtained a smooth result.

WBlakeny reacted to archjofo in La Créole 1827 by archjofo - Scale 1/48 - French corvette
Thanks for the kind words and positive comments, and also for the LIKES.
The next equipment parts of the French corvette is a cover for spare masts and spare spars. The weatherproof cover is a canvas, which was painted with tar. This canvas is mounted on fork-shaped iron and been completed front and back by a board.
The following pictures speak for themselves and I hope you like them.
