Progress has moved on a little since completing first plank.

I have sanded and faired the hull and added whales (pre-stained black) as well as the bulwark/deck line trim.  I have added some fine baltic pine woodlblend filler on the unstained area of the hull and put a fist coat of royal blue on the bulwarks.

The lower hull has been stained walnut to represent the muddy dark shade that the hull was described as on the Australian voyage.  Some minor areas filled to be sanded and the bow.

The anchor rubbing timbers are installed per the Marquardt drawings.  Not sure how large the bolster was but I made a guess and installed.

I will spend the next week sanding and finishing the hull and progress to the stern decorations and rudder installation.

Well I have finally finished the first plank and preliminary sanding.  There's a couple of small gaps to be be filled that revealed themselves when the planks were sanded back (bevelling not done as accurately as I should have).
I am using finely sanded plank material mixed with PVA, water and detergent to fill the gaps between planks.
The dark areas on the planks were a result of a previous fill with the PVA mix eating with a steel applicator.  I have to do a little more shaping sanding around the deadwood area before getting onto the cherry whales I plan to use.
I am happy how the planking went keeping as close to the original line of planking as I could.

I had just bought a new HP printer and got 6 months of free ink so I could print the whole thing at the cost of paper, about 3€ 😁

    Finished deck planking yesterday:

Today it was time for wiring:
    ++
Only four static LEDs included, two already used in the nameplate but I found some micro LEDs I could use below the skylight.

    The normal LED

The micro LEDs work. I used two, don't know why...

The wiring for the stern. The loose wire will go to the lantern wit a flickering LED at the end of the build.

    Testing

Hopefully the LEDs and the wires will stay in place throughout the build...

Next up is faring the frames and hull planking. First single planked hull for me, and as I suck at planking hulls we'll see how that turns out...

Hello! I can see why a ship kit build can take someone so long! Time flys

It’s been about a month since my first post and I’d like to think I’ve made some good progress. Again this is my first kit I’ve done, so I know it’s not perfect! I’d like to think I’m doing pretty ok so far though. Almost done planking the first layer of the hull, Let me know if there is anything that jumps out at you as a red flag! Some of the pictures sure make it look worse than irl.

Just about completed designs for the poop area. Pics look a little rough, but please remember this model is used as a test bed, nothing more, to see how well parts fit. They are altered if required (and this is often...)

The chequered floor is actually laser engraved high grade card. All false pillars in this kit for stern, quarter galleries and poop screen will be in pearwood. I think they are much better than the usual photo etched ones.

I have just glued down the poop deck. Next - second planking...

Oh, I also added a pic showing the two designs I did for the poop screen bulkhead. I decided to go the upper pattern.

Nice kit review James. I'm glad to see AL back at it under the new ownership.

I know that some people are concerned about instructions on DVD. I don't have a DVD drive on my main computers either, but downloading the 500-page pdf shouldn't take very long for most of us. My download was just about one minute. Viewing it doesn't require top hardware either. My computer is 9 years old, has 16GB of RAM, and it flies through the pages without a hitch.

However, DVD drives are very slow, and accessing the pdf on it could be a lot less enjoyable unless you copy the file to your hard drive and view it from there.

Viewing the file where your doing your building might be more of an issue for some.

Thanks Dave, I use one of these:

A Woodless 8B Graphite Stick. As it is pure graphite it doesn't smudge that much...

I'll update the log later this evening.

Great to see another Endeavour on the go and you have made an excellent start and great planking on the Decks, especially with the cauking inbetween the planks. I would be interested to know what you used? I look forward to seeing your progress I f you don,t mind me pulling up a chair.

    Thanks for the comments Edward.
This kit, like the curates egg, wasn't all bad
and builds into an impressive model.
In spite of the A4 sized plans, poor quality wood
and some big mistakes in the laser cut parts
I have enjoyed the build so far.
A lot needed tweaking and some of the build
is obviously wrong and needed replacing.
Not a beginners kit by any means.

    Best Regards,
    Sam.

This is my last posting on this build for now.
I have kept the plans and spare bits and intend finishing
masting and rigging and, maybe sails when I have
more room to work on this beast and, somewhere
    to store the finished build.
Will be taking a week or so to clear and restock
my workbench and will then start on
    Caldercrafts HM Bark Endeavour.
Already had a peek in the box and the plans and,
contents are miles better than the kit I have
just called a halt on so looking forward immensely
    to building it.
Have the AOTS book in stock and already trawled through
some very high quality logs on this forum.
Thanks to everyone for visiting and commenting.
This will get finished eventually but probably not
    this year.

    Best regards,
    Sam.

@James H Me too, but I'm building the R.C. and only did the stand and frames because I was curious how it would look. And have no photos of what I've done so far (except these two I took today). Maybe in the future if I ever finish R.C.

Got this kit in November last year with the optional LED lighting set.
Needed a break from rigging R.C. and was as usual just dry fitting the frames and the next I knew I was building the damn thing...

Whats in the box can be seen here in James H's review.

There was a nice surprise in my box. Thank you Artesania Latina!!!

I didn't take any pictures of assembling the frames, decks or the stand.

The stand with the light works very well, even in daylight:

    Backside of the name plate:

Yesterday I got started on the bulwarks.

And this black monster helps me with getting hairs just about everywhere on the ship...

Mid deck planking underway. I cut and sand the planks individually, it takes some time but the results are good:

Deck sanded and varnished and inner bulwarks done:

    Forecastle started:

0.5 mm thick strips. Super quality but if I have too much glue on them they tend to curl:

Forecastle bulwarks. I don't know what material this is. Bamboo maybe but they are extremely easy to bend.

    Forecastle and bulwarks ready (almost)

    Poop deck underway:

And this is as far as I got today...

I'm quite satisfied with the kit so far. Nice materials and a detailed manual without one written word.
The only thing I'm not happy with are the laser cut blocks:

Sanding the char and then drill a hole on 288 tiny blocks is NOT what I want to waste my time on...

I was thinking of ordering the Hermione from A.L. at the end of the month, but I have to look up what kind of blocks there is in that kit first.
