Artesania Latina HMS Victory 1/72 Cross Section: 2nd video finished, this should have been simple, but I glued one pair of frames the wrong way round. I did not discover this until the next day when the glue had cured. As I am using Super Phatic glue, I managed to soften the glue with a hair dryer to unstick them and correct the mistake.

I have replaced the blocks provided with ones ordered from HiS.  The picture is one of the single blocks, they are a better shape

    Some unboxing!

Not a bad idea, we're sure it will be a great model.

On the other hand… We’re not looking to start or fuel any controversy, but we also think it wouldn’t be fair to stay silent after reading some of the recent comments on the forum—some of them (now deleted) even bordering on disrespect, coming from people we honestly thought were gentlemen.

Perhaps we’d deserve criticism if we had simply brought back the same model we created 20 years ago, just to make use of the ‘HMS Surprise’ name. But that’s clearly not the case. We believe most of you already understand the time and effort required to create a brand-new model—this project didn’t start two months ago, or even a year ago.

And about the string duo figures… we’ve been designing figures for our kits for years—ever since we created those for the three caravels about seven years ago. As for the idea of including one of the film’s most iconic scenes on this ship… well, no one would’ve come up with that idea — it must’ve been some impressive espionage work.

We truly appreciate the passion and dedication of this community. Constructive feedback and open dialogue are always welcome—they help us improve and, above all, keep alive the shared enthusiasm that makes model shipbuilding such a remarkable hobby.

I have completed the frames from the 1st video, it it looks like a nice kit, but I have ordered better shaped blocks from HiS Models.  I will probably be posting progress at the end of each video

Hi, I have been steadily working away at painting the hull and adding the ladders if that is the correct terminology. Had some issues with keeping the ladder lengths consistent with the tools I have so will look into a more precise cutter going forward.
I thinned the paints and that seemed to work well with a little more time spent adding coats.
I have also taken time to look at a number of builds on the site and let’s just say it’s a humbling experience. The level of skill on display is incredible!!

Next on my list are the Victory lantern. I found 3mm flickering LEDs that don't need a circuit and are extremely cheap ($10 for 100 LEDs on Amazon.
I used thin black paper that still does not let light through and cut it out on my laser. To prepare the LED, I sanded down the dome in the front and cut off the shoulder? by the pins.
The biggest challenge is not to glue the fingers to the LED, while applying the black paper.
With one or two exception, they all will be attached to the ceiling beams and I am not worried about the top of the lantern.

The first wood pieces of my first wooden ship are glued together and it went not bad.
I painted one thin side of the planks with black color and rounded the corners. The paint is barely visible but separates the planks enough for me. I don't know if it is intended by the manufacturer, but the individual strips were not exactly the same thickness, but I like the look for the floor boards.

Hey everyone, I have been working away at this cross-section as a retirement project. My previous experience with model making goes back to plastic models as a much younger version of myself.
Kind of just feeling my way through this project and realizing the learning curve is steep. I have made a few critical errors, one that is noticeable if viewed from the top, and the other being putting the heavier guns on the highest gun deck. Once I noticed the mistake it was too late to rectify the error but a lesson learned.
Any feedback or suggestions would be welcomed.

    Cheers,
    Russ

    19….the end

After a few months of resting on the bench and summer activities taking over my time, the punch list didn’t really get done.  I also did not find the right adhesive to attach the black corners to the case.  I picked her up and took her to the Yacht club for the summer art show, and then a few nights ago, I gave my talk on the general history of the Northwest Passage explorers and the vessels. The model showing HMS Terror laying at Beechey Island getting ready for winter was featured.  My talk also covered highlights of how today one follows the path of the Franklin expedition.

The images show her resting at the Yacht club after the art show, I was traveling in New Brunswick and missed it.  Then she was in the lobby advertising the talk....Tracing the Northwest Passage.

So, to the future.  I will be next focusing on the two Norwegian vessels Gjoa and Fram for new builds, the first to be scratch and the second a kit.  I also need to return and plug away at the Schooner Elizabeth Howard. And truthfully, I need to find a place for this huge box of a diorama.    That is currently a mystery.   I still have the alumnum strips and some day I will attach them. I also have the remaining soars and things to place on the deck.   Our Guild has a show at the end of September in Bath Maine, and that will be fun too.  So, Terror may rest , but no rest for me I guess.

    cheers

0.6 actually... and the shaft IS a problem, only found one other set of drillbits that use this measurement. The rpm I guess is somewhere around what's advertised, so it's more useful than most of the other competition, but it's way overprized.

The figure set is being reworked, so should have an update within the next few days.

In the meantime, I am busy producing Harpy fittings, laser cutting kits parts for orders and still working on Harpy CAD drawings in between everything else.

We have now become so busy that my wife will be working full time for Vanguard Models from September, as it is neither fair or untenable for her to have a full time day job, and then to come home and work again until late putting kits together. My accountant confirmed the validity of this today.

Our house is up for sale, as we need a larger premises, but no bites as yet, dammit....

Maybe try to export the object as a .Obj file and load it to the slicer. BTW, what slicer program are you using? So far I found LycheeSlicer to be the best free program. It does a good job finding islands and faults in the model. I printed my Bounty cannons straight up with the muzzel against the print plate. Though I modelled the cannons in Cinema4d.

    Edit:
Also there is a BIG difference in resin quality... went through some brands before I found one that works ok with smaller items...

Edit again; I'm printing in resin,,,

I find myself more and more often considering stopping posting on Model Ship World.  A few weeks ago I encourage a member to continue despite some pretty negative comments by another user.  The offending post has been removed, but not after I think it was actually "liked" by one of the moderators.  Yesterday I think less that constructive language was used to describe the Occre HMS Victory model kit.  This kit isn't for everyone, it is fair to point out historically inaccuracies, or to challenge whether it is truly a plank on frame model or some thing else.  As we have recently heard from Chuck, a true plank on frame kit can be very expensive.  If this is a something that gives someone a "taste" of plank on frame at a lower cost than full on plank on frame, maybe that is ok and maybe someone will be inspired to do a full plank on frame model after building this kit.   And if some of us are not able or interested in investing the time and sometimes money to do extensive research on a particular ship, that should be OK.  Please keep helping those that what more information about the ships they are building, but no need to mock those that are simply building a kit to impress their friends and neighbors.

45,000 members, but how many have a build log in the last year or two.  I am not sure I would give the same advice I gave a few weeks ago about continuing to post on the site if I was giving the advice today.

    Hello all

I've been doing some odds and ends on the Bohuslän.

Oak stain on the front deck:

Aft wall of cafeteria did not fit so good. It may be me having trouble getting the planks to lay flush to the frames aft.
Filler, sanding and paint plus the sofas will hide this mess I hope.

The lip of the windows where marked with the lasercutter. They would disappear when painted so I cut some silver wire and made a rather simple ornament.

I tried doing the curly bit on the ends but it was impossible (for me) to get them all identical so I went for the simple variation.

First of many, many, many coats of paint.

No portholes included so I ordered from CMB.

    Companionway and "lifebelt boxes"

    Kind if weathered look.

The plywood is very bristle and breaks all the time.

Well, I'll be doing some rigging again on my other builds for a while so the next update will not be too soon.

Since burnside63 told me about others having this kit without the mismatch pieces I contacted Turkmodel. Mr. Selvi answered quickly and confirmed that they had some adjustment issues on the first batch of this kit. They are sending me replacement parts ASAP. So I'm back on track again. But now I have four builds going simultaneously

Thank you burnside63 for kick-starting me on this one.

    Planking of cafeteria:

The original floor is darker but I only varnished the planks so there will be some contrast against the tables and chairs.

    And here is some tables:

The ply for the tables and chairs is 0.5 mm and extremely bristle. brushing the ply with sanding sealer gave it enough strength for assembling.

    On to glue 30 chairs....
