Started on the boats yesterday. I got the innards ground down & the lifts glued together (except for the bottoms). I will finish sanding the insides before I attach the bottoms. I've already gotten farther in two days on these than I have in 15 years on the previous set. Wahoo!

It's too bad you guys can't hear the soundtrack that's playing behind this ship every day. A little bit of classical, a little bit of jazz, a little bit of country, & a little bit of good old rock & roll. I actually feel a little bit sorry for youse guys.

Finished another bank of hammocks. Now I have a regular hammock folding factory. Now I'm about 40% done.

    Greetings everybody
Well I am back on the ship for a few days finishing off all the odd jobs and repairs that need to be done before the ship is encased. I have added the netting to the rail on the tops which I needed to do, so I reckon there is still half a dozen or more repairs that need doing and then a good clean of the whole ship. The making of the case is stopped while I wait for the Acrylic/Perspex to arrive. I have moved into my new blue shipyard with loads of space and taken a few photos. I think the blue background makes a difference on the photos which can be seen when you see how clear the rigging is shown. Anyway hopefully the glazing will arrive soon, and the case can be completed and then the tidying up finished. Thanks for viewing and all your comments. DAVID

I did wind up having to cut new bulwarks out of basswood.  I got in a hurry  the other morning, didn't double check every thing and misscut the bow on the bulwark.

    Now have both bulwarks done.

Test fit of the larboard bulwark

While waiting for the glue to dry I noticed the hull planking on the inside of the lower decks needed to be stained.

I think I'm going to plank the inside and outside of the bulwarks next. Then do the transom and lower transom.

I finished a section of hammock nets. I roiled, folded and tied each hammock just like they showed the sailors of old did it. Now I'll "tweak" them to get them to look good. I think I'm only doing one of the four hammock stanchion sections just to show how the ship was rigged when it went into combat. I think if I stuff all the stanchions with hammocks it will block some viewing of the deck.

Rudder is finished, "only" to mount left

And hinges will be "metalized" in something like dark bronze color, which can hadrly be seen on photos ( camera ...)

This pictures were made throught the magnifier glass .... little more details, but it is undesired playing to get right focus

Next is another two days in factory, two days of family party, and then She will be on line again

Thanks Piet, I can't seem to get it to work ( I think it's a wiring issue  LOL )  , the Inmarsat Sailor 500 works perfect LOL

Hi Omega, The Sailor 500 Does exactly that in unison with the GPS , its an incredible technology that allows real-time Satellite tracking from the boat , as to location, performance , and keeps a log ,its just another thing that makes these boats incredible ( State of the Art )

I also did the final West System Application to the Keel ( for a total of 3 ) next the Keel will be sanded smooth and painted a Flat Black along with the 2 Rudder Blades

    Best Regards,
    Pete

I've been experimenting how to make the rolled hammocks to fill the hammock nets. Four different attempts proved awful. This one has some promise. I rolled tightly some soil cloth taken from my garden supplies and bent it in two and tied it with some white thread. They might be a bit too tall but I think I'm in the ballpark. What do you all think. Also, I'll take any and all suggestions.

    Beginning of build log:

Just starting up the log with what appears to be the traditional 'unboxing' post.  This was actually done on September 6th, but I did not see any point in opening a build log while I was still working on the Carmen, as I'm not going to attempt to do multiple builds at once yet (no room, even if I wanted to).

I took inventory using the parts list included, and everything seems to be ship-shape.  I will likely not actually begin working on this until the weekend, as I've got an idea for a display stand for the Carmen to take to my office (my not at home office), and now that I'm done building the Carmen, I want to read through the instructions and some build logs for the AVS before I begin.

Until then, here are the unboxing photo's.

Bedford, Tom, Denis, thanks for your kind words. Al those who added likes thank you they are appreciated.

Tom the ends were making me cautious as well.
This ought to calm you down

Denis the idea of an adjustable slip actually seems like a great one, it had not occurred to me that way. There will be some leather wrapped over the wood block., I am pleased with the way they work. They are part of a new way of supp0rting the model to replace the little stand it is presently sitting on.

Denis there is definitely another build on the horizon. I have the plans for an 8 foot Shamrock V, by Rene Sarao of Nova  Scotia as one option.

I finally was able to get some work done on the Volvo today. I started by closing in the cabin top and companionway , I then finished up the steering wheel for the Starboard side steering station ( and pinted it to match the Port side ). I then varnished over the logos , and painted the cabin top red and companionway white ( I will be putting a logo over the companionway entrance ) Here are the results

thank you very much, nice appreciative words of yours, since the Little one is there it realy gives me a happy Feeling as if I have wings, I became grandpa  with 66 and some of our freinds also are having already 5 grandchildren, I hope this lets Forget the own steady plus on years. Congrats to your four...

The rigging Progress on Pegasus provides much fun, and up to date fortunately most work sequences worked out right the first time. I am really proud of the full alignment of the Shrouds and backstays relating to the preplaced chainplates angles. Here I was a bit uncertain for some time, because if the alignment Fails it probably would have looked at me for ever after

At the museum, most of the model you are all building were there. most looked scratch built and old. Some were very big like 7 feet long. One exhibit was the prison ship models made of carved bone scraps by the prisoners on the infamous British prison ship during the American Revoltuion. They were astonishing! It was dificult to take photos because of the lighting so I show a few where the lighting was okay.
