Today, I started by sanding the Coamings, starting with 400 grit sandpaper and working my way up to 800 grit sandpaper. I then applied the third coat of varnish. IWith 4 coats of varnish on the Mast and Boom, I turned my attention to finishing the Mast by painting the Masthead and Spreaders white. Next will be to finish the Cockpit coamings and start making the Sails. Here are the results

Today, After another coat of Varnish was applied to the Spars ( Mast and Boom ) I turned my attention to installing the Cockpit coamings. I started by finalizing the fit. I then made the brace that fits between the Coamings on the forward bulkhead. Next, I made the forward Coaming block, I ( once satisfied with the fit ) I installed the coamings brace and block. I then stained the block and brace cherry red. Next will be to varnish the Cockpit Coamings. Here are the results

During this week, I have been sanding and varnishing the Hull, rub rails and toe rails. for the sanding. I started with 400 grit sandpaper and worked my way up to 800 grit sandpaper. I then would apply varnish wait 24 hours and re do the process. ( sanding and varnishing ) there are 6 coats of Epifanes varnish now on the Hull. I am pleased with how the varnish turned out, Next will be to complete varnishing the Spars ( mast and boom ) they currently both have 2 coats. Here are the results

Some more progress. The 'dunny' has now been completed along with the windlass. I've been playing about with the windlass on and off for some time, but decided it was time to finish it off. In the photos both pieces are in roughly their final position. Going by the available photos, the 'dunny' seemed to have been moved from time to time, but this is the position it was in when the 'Pritt' went to the Roper River to land the missionaries, which is the period I want. It must have been pretty inconvenient when sailing with the wind aft, as it stuck up higher than the level of the main boom.

Hi Pete. Cheers and many thanks!
Hi BDGiantman Thanks for your comments. Greatly appreciated!
Hi Mark Thanks and I really appreciate your comments!
Hi Elijah. Thanks for your comments and yep, I've designed each deck to be completely removable so that the interior can be viewed. I'd hate to have put all the work into the interior, without it being able to be enjoyed. Thanks once again.
Cheers

Thank you David B., The cure time is 7 hours, I am guessing your brother in law did not put in the correct amount of hardner . humidity and temp do play a factor, however it would only add or subtract an hour or 2

I love your attention to detail and it shows in your work. At what point you finally say "good enough" is a choice only you can make. I think that your ability to "slow down" will result in a beautiful ship.

No new photos, but I spent the evening scrutinizing the fairing, both with my Mark 1 eyeball, and using a piece of boxwood planking material. I wound up touching up the area at the lower bow, and after test fitting planks, used a coarse sanding stick to further taper the bulkhead former at the stern from the bearding line to the rabbet strip . . . you were right Mike (Stuntflyer).
On my longboat I had used Polly Scale Soo Line Red acrylic paint for the red. I have plenty of that left, but am going to experiment with Vallejo red (on scrap wood, of course). Vallejo paints from Spain are very high quality and are the best bottled acrylics I know for brushing with no brush marks or unevenness. I'll post my results here.

Beak-head framing....
After clean up and trimming of the bulkhead, I began building the 14 catwalk panels. First, using tracing paper to create a precise fit for each of the panels, as they must fit perfectly between each frame member.
Then planking each frame with a uniform gap (used the thickness of my steel ruler to maintain consistent gaps).... all panels were glued in place.
Here's a little closer look at the finished bulkhead with outside morning light.... note the addition of the two "heads".
Some clean up of glue stains still to be done prior to applying golden oak stain.
The cowlings (bulwarks) have been cut out and, seen here, painted red on the inboard side....
