Mike, Ken and Tom, make yourselves at home.
Plenty of open chairs still available. The popcorn machine is there in the back of the room, help yerselves.
This build might be going slow for a while. I'm still waiting for a lot of materials, wood etc.
Also I got a shed load of work on Monday morning.
I'm a software developer focusing on systems integration.
We were given a small budget for starting to develop some IoT (Internet of Things) ideas.
We did come up with a concept and build a prototype (sorry, still top secret so can't say much about it)
The prototype was still in breadboard stage when it was shown to management last week.
They spoke to sales and... we were told on Monday morning that we have to demo it to a client on Friday.
As one of my other hobbies is messing around with 3D printing, I got the task to design an enclosure for it.
I have to draw it up in 3D cad, have the design approved, print it and finish it up all by Wednesday COB.
Thursday we have to fit it all in the casing and make sure it still works.
So a very crazy week so far.
Added 3 photos. One of parts printing as I type this, a photo of the software controlling the printer and an over view of my computer station.
Cheers

New carvings finished and placed.....
The clean-up of the two new carvings went pretty well.... actually a little more detail than I expected, considering the scale.
And here's the image of the carving I'm choosing to fit into that last panel.
Unfortunately, I expect to lose a lot of these amazing details once I scale it down to fit in the 1/2" x 1-1/4" panel.
I may have to go back to Sculpy for this one.... we shall see.

Hi Pete - thanks for the positive feedback.
1st Planking the hull continues. After completing 9 parallel planks the curvature was getting a little excessive so it was time for a change in strategy. I started looking for a natural plank line and then dithered for hours wondering which line would be best. After drawing many options on the hull I decided to be undecided and just ploughed on regardless - reasoning that I'd make the best of whatever line I chose. I marked a line using a stiff plank and used pins to form location points for positioning the first of the next stage of planks.
Having marked out the plank line on one side of the hull I used dividers to transpose an identical line on the other side of the hull. So far the planking on either side of the hull is identical and I want to keep it this way - silly really as it will be over planked. (My OCD kicking in again).
I have now completed 3 of the new phase of planking and all is well - so far!!!

Thanks for the compliments and the likes and visits, they are really appreciated.
Build part 32
I made a new scraping tool to create a rebate for the caulking it is scale 5/16 wide and 3/8th deep, after sanding the plank smooth the rebate is scraped on the inboard side. I mixed up some coloured Titebond III I used some Windsor and Newton Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Violet to make a deep brown, I think black is a bit harsh on small boats. The channel already has a fair bit of the glue filling it as a result of the initial liberal application of the glue with a brush. It will need further applications of glue done the same way as the caulking on the pilot cutter using a syringe, that will come when the planking is completed.
I decided to nib the planks into the king plank.
The next plank heat bent and ready for splitting, fortunately there are only 3 long planks on each side then they are much shorter so the scraping will not be a tiring on my fingers.
I was a little heavy handed with my scraping tool and snapped off the corner of the blade so tomorrow I shall have to make another.

Thank you all for visiting my humble shipyard and clicking on the like button.
Thank you Amazon Dirk, Lawrence, Patrick and Popeye Denis for your encouraging comments. Orders for anchors? Yuns think you can afford my prices? Good to see you Dirk, hope all's well with you and your project.
I didn't have much time yesterday to post anything, besides there was really nothing worthwhile to post. The weather has been just too chilly and windy here in Palm Coast, Florida so my stay in the garage - aka shipyard - was brief. The same for today, still too cold for me and I didn't feel like punishing my delicate old bod if I don't have to. Did I ever tel all f you that I HATE cold weather? Well, I HATE cold weather.
The only thing I did yesterday was put some primer on the anchor and made the stock. After the primer was dry I installed the stock, cut the bolts from 1 mm brass rod, drilled the bolt holes, mixed some slow cure epoxy cement and installed the bolts.
I also cut a small piece of boxwood out of some stock I have for the counter decoration. That piece is 40 X 65 X 5 mm - I wanted to keep the carving reasonably small so as not to be overpowering. This will also give me the space to add some more decorative things on the sides, bottom and top. The stern area will require quite a few carvings to hide the intentionally kept bare areas for that purpose.
On my dentist visit yesterday he have me about 6 small burs. One is a tungsten carbide bit and the rest are diamond studded. They are tiny, thus very good for carving the mane on the bow lion.
Today I moved some of my things inside and finished the small "stern anchor" in the breakfast nook where it was nice and warm. I could look outside at my koy pond and do some work in the warmth.
So I filed all the bolts down to just above the wood to give it the feel and appearance of hammered heads. I already put the little jar of flat black paint inside to let it come to room temperature. The first thing was using the toothpick trick to put some flat black on the bolts. Let it dry and then brushed the flat black on the anchor and put it aside to let the paint dry. That gave me the chance to have some lunch and let the paint dry.
After lunch I put the oak stain on the stock and put it aside to dry. Gwen, who doesn't want to be called the Admiral, said that she really liked the anchor, it's better then the first two, she said. So, okay, I'm a happy camper Looks like that I'll be making a few more, ummm, for myself though
Next thing was that I transferred the drawing of the Sura and Buaya battle to that little piece of wood and proceeded to cut it out with the Proxxon jigsaw. I left a handle like piece at the top end to have something to hold on to. I like to hold the parts I work on between my fingers, that way I have a better feel of what I'm doing.
Well, that's it or now and below are a few pics of my accomplishments for two days work. Hope you like it.
The completed "stern" anchor for the Surabaya.
This is the sketch for the counter carving. It's the visual depiction of a legend about a shark, called the Sura who fought with a salt water crocodile, the Buaya, for supremacy of the Kali Mas and the river delta. The word kali means river in the Indonesian language and that's the place where the city called Surabaya was established. It's the city where I was born and raised, a really nice place - at that time - ergo, the name of this model.
This shows the rough cut-out for the carving. This will be a real challenge for me, it'll be my fist attempt at carving. Wish me luck.
Cheers,

The deck (and hence the hull top line) has a significant bow from stem to stern. I therefore decided not to try and follow the deck to hull intersection with the 1st plank. Also the first plank was being laid at a small distance from the hull / deck intersection to take the later installation of the bulwark.
The line of the 1st plank was marked using a flexible straight edge which I made from .060 inch plastic.
Having marked the line I placed a number of pins along it to act as stops against which to accurately locate the 1st plank. The first plank was then installed using PVA wood glue and held in place by notice board pins while drying.
At .060 inch thick the first plank wasn't as flexible as I would have liked and so I decided to thin down succeeding planks progressively thinning each plank by .002 inch (reducing the planking thickness .050 inch by the 6th plank). Another departure from a previous post is that I found that I only had .250 inch x 3 inch x 48 inch obechi. I ordered up some .200 inch but decided to progress the planking using what I had. I will revert to the narrower planks where the hull curvature becomes more pronounced.
The first 5 rows of planking have gone on well and I haven't felt the need to do any tapering thus far.
The natural flow of the 1st plank left the stern in need of additional planks and before proceeding with the stern I marked a straight edge for the uppermost (nearest the deck) plank. I checked that the line for the upper plank was identical on both sided of the hull using my improvised height gauge (on the right of the picture)
I then installed the top plank on each side.
I then infilled the remainder of the stern using tapered planks.

Hi Steve,
your input on the winches is much appreciated, thanks very much.
On the KWdG the steam driven winch machinery is situated beneath the forecastle deck, whereby the capstan drive rods with mounted gypsies and drums and stick up through the deck
Enclosed an example of the anchor winch equipment on Cunard`s "Lusitania" (from Mark D. Warren`s book )

Note that the height of the image was a little too tall for the panel I will be sticking it in, so I had to distort the image slightly before gluing it to the vinyl board.
Also, I'll be trying something a little different with this new carving.
I discovered that much finer detail can be achieved by etching and carving into the plastic casting.
I think this rough shaping in vinyl will give me a sharp enough mold casting to make a decent piece.

Update....Bulkheads
Before returning to the few hull carvings remaining to be done, I spent a few hours re-visiting the ornamentation of the three main bulkheads on the weather decks. I have recognized all along that they still needed a little more ornamentation, but never could decide what I wanted to put on them.
Here's what I came up with.... (before and after pics)
May still need to tweek the area on each side of the half deck initials "CR" seen in the middle pic....

Thanks Pete, the reason I asked is to compare it to the gaff rigged mast. at the step it is elliptical 5 inches on one axis an 4 1/2 on the other tapering to round at the peak at 3 1/2. I think a Gaff mast is a bit heavier than a Marconi one, but I could be out to lunch on that.
