another work week out of the way........I was checking to make sure I did the logs on these past few updates.   finding that I did,  and am all caught up,  I transferred them to my file in the memory stick,  and I thought you might like to see the difference in the design of the fish box.

the box itself looked kinda choked......the receiving bins would not have been able to do their job.   with the modification,  the bins are opened more and conceivably,  can accept a net full of fish.   the second idea that I have will further automate the box,  in how the catch is moved from the receiving bins,  to the sort area.....and then,  into the hold.   that will be a little bonus,  I'll throw in for fun

    Hi Denis

I can't believe what a week you must've had. From the joys of a new grandson, through to a storm, flooding, an injured son and, everything else in between!

Yet, despite all of that, you still manage to churn out a beautiful looking winch! I don't how you manage to juggle everything, but you always seem to do it with aplomb.

I'm certainly envious of your ability to do that.

    All the best!

    Hey Denis.

Great news about the special delivery. Baby No. 6 chose quite a night to make an appearance, by the sounds of it.

    I hope all are well.

    Hi Denis

Wow! Very nice. Each photo I look at, brings up more and more detail to see. You must've been really busy and productive in between your updates, because there's certainly been a lot of great progress to date.

    Cheers

    Hi Denis

Thanks for mentioning me. I don't think it was actually me that made that comment though, because I always refer to have comprehensive plans to work with. Nine times out of ten though, I don't. So, it comes down to some guess work on my part.

I'm also really curious to see which winch arrangement that you eventually go for. Whichever one you choose, I'm sure it's gonna look great.

    All the best!

Wow, Denis. Syborn's really come a long way since your last update.

I wouldn't worry too much about losing the wide open deck space. She's a working boat and a crowded deck just looks more in keeping with her intended purpose.

    Keep up the great work!

    Hi Lawrence

Many thanks! I'm really enjoying building Shadow; albeit, the time I've had available lately has been pretty scarce. Hopefully, that'll change as things settle down over the next few weeks.

I've also thought about your comment about the large scale models, but sadly, I've resorted to building miniatures because I have no more room for the big models in my house. In fact, all my large RC yachts (including a 3 masted radio controlled clipper ship which I built when I was 17), are languishing in my garden shed! Sad, but true.

So, miniatures it is, from now on!

    Have a great week.

    Cheers

Have decided to build the model upside down as this will make planking an easier process. Have therefore inverted all of the frames and installed them upside down on a pedestal, which will vary in length according to the height of the hull for every frame along the length of the waterline. As there is a fractional difference between the depth of the keel viz the waterline I am making allowance for that as well, but especially for the noticeable raised forecastle so typical of the Leanders.
There are really 4 different parts to the hull, two of which fall between the flush deck making up the larger part of the hull starting from the stern on the one hand, and the raised forecastle on the other : one is a very gentle upward slope along the front end of the superstructure and under the gun, the other the 'step' containing the rear set of breakwaters and leading up to the forecastle itself.

A lot of calculations and careful fixing followed ! Each of the frames has been attached to a vertical piece of wood, which will then in turn be fixed at a square angle to a bar which will be screwed into the base board at the exact framing spot. The keel and stringers can then be attached thereto once all the frames are in place.

I have used nuts and bolts so as to facilitate the removal of the support struts once the hull is fully planked and turned back to normal, before starting on the decks.

After that I will be able to start planking the hull, hopefully next weekend if I manage to get a few evenings work in this week !

Some photographs to show progress....slow but getting there.

    Hi Jason,

Now there is a coincidence, if ever I need some info on some tiny bit of undocumented kit I will call on you :-) Were you with her in San Carlos

Been doing some sanding on the bow section, a lot of dremel and manual work, with a dust cloud to match ! Still not quite there but started to get cramp in my arm....

    Hi folks!

Just a quick update on Shadow.

I've been concentrating on getting the external superstructure built. So far, most of the general shape is there; well enough to see the beauty starting to come through.

Still heaps to go, but time's been limited lately.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get more time later.

    Have a great weekend!

    Cheers

    Hi everyone!

Thanks for all of your comments and Likes. Greatly appreciated!

This week, I've been too flat out to work on Shadow, until tonight. The first thing that I managed to do was to build the initial framework of the cabin on the Upper Deck. A lot of guess work has gone into it because the photos and plans that I'm relying upon don't show that much detail. But, nonetheless, at least I've managed to nut it out...I think!

Lots of work to go, though.

Anyhow, I'm just glad that she's beginning to take shape.

    Have a great weekend, folks!

    Cheers
