good afternoon everyone
futtock shrouds were done today which then meant i could get on with the rest of the main mast
upper spreaders done made yesterday , have now been fitted
surprising is the fact the the main mast is very similar size wise to the foremast

good afternoon everyone
i will have to rethink the belaying pin racks, the kit provides for 7 pins on all masts this needs to be at least 13, so i will have to go back a scratch my head
please let me know if you are getting bored of my updates, i love to show the ups and downs of my builds, but im happy to cut down to once a week if it is desired
not my photo
the balcony work continues

Good evening everyone
Thank you for likes and comments
i have started pinning parts in place, nothing will be fixed until i have put the right colour green in the upper banding
prop is now fitted, and the stern decoration is in place, to get this to fit i sanded the reverse side, it was a lot easier to get into the right shape after taking 2mm off
tonight first test fit of the veranda, in the first build, this was miles out, this time nothing has been filed to get a fit
everything is pinned but not secured
im waiting for some strips to arrive to put under the green banding, that will hide the over painting
need to look at that gap, not seen it before

good afternoon everyone
photo of the AV on top of the wheelie bin, i no longer want to just open the lid and drop her in it. the lockers still need some form of covering at the front, wip

Good evening Everyone
thank you @ccoyle for amending the title, i must do better when naming my logs
more progress today, and im happy with the green. i am in no hurry to put the veranda on, it would be far to easy for me to break it

good evening everyone
all the upper portholes and airports have now been fitted, and the recessed rivets have been replaced, i hope to have all the upper works in green tomorrow, then decide if i like it or not, otherwise i will rip it all off and restart

Good evening everyone
look long and hard at the build today, and decided to be a bit braver with her
the yellow ochre is going, NO yellow Ochre on this build (subject to change), it is being replaced with Olive green,
why i ask you say, and my thinking is ( i dont have an answer yet)
anyway i am committed to the build and ordered some extra bits for her today, including olive green
the banding is sitting better now, i altered a few bits today
the ports i am experimenting with to see if it works

Good evening everyone
Hull
well with the Dorade finished, its back to the Amerigo, the Enterprise will continue at some time in the future when my confidence returns
so back to the banding,
im having trouble sourcing some air ports/portholes they appear in the instructions as part number 202 and are 6.8 x 3.3, i need about 30 of them, but have plenty to so until i come up with a solution, buying kit number 3 is not really an option
for some reason the banding is longer one side than the other so i have a gap to fill
other then that, this for me is 1000% better than my previous attempt 11 years ago

Good evening everyone
top strip has been primed and ready for top coat
did a check on what is still to be made and laid them out on the plans
the port hole strips were used to mark out where the holes have to be drilled, i was then going to discard the strips put the brass ports and eyelids directly onto the hull. then mask and paint over them in black, however i was a bit heavy handed in places, so the strips are back on the build table
these strips are fine providing the hull is right, and so far mine have gone on ok
i used Halfords appliance white as the top coat, it will need another layer on at a later date

good morning everyone
i have spent many hours doing the hull, so decided to take the step and put white primer on, what a difference there are still issues with the hull finish, but they may have to stay now, but compared to where it was last month (well im happy)
there are several builds i am following @ken3335 and @schiffebastler here on MSW so i keep looking for bits i can do that are not included in the instructions, which are basically a waste of trees
eyebrows, i first came across these on the Victory build and then realised all ships have them, these will all be yellow ochre, i am at this time not going to contrast everything with bright shiny metal work,

Good morning everyone
thank you for comments and likes very much appreciated
well the deck planking is done, just a couple of edges that need sorting, as it got quite thin on the edges for over sanding
so far, every thing that was messed up last time has sorted its self out, although the boat seams to have got 10mm longer in 12 years, still growing maybe
the main porthole strips on the port side went on with out any fuss, but i put an extra infill in to cover the 10mm gap
i want to be brave and do a different colour scheme on her, any suggestions, as the decking is quite light, i was thinking about renaming her now and taking her a very different vessel
I like her in this scheme will be interesting to find out how others feel, maybe now is the time to take to just a composite 3 master

good evening everyone
took a break from the Dorade for a couple weeks, as i wanted to progress the AV
the hull has been sanded and primed 3 times now and as a result, it is much better, deck planking in 3mm lime, means she will look totally different to the real thing, thats by choice and intentional

good morning everyone
finished making the cabin bulkheads, will do for now
im at that stage of doing something i dont enjoy, i wont say hate it, but very close, prepping the hull for colour, sanding priming, filling and repeat.
having completed a majority of 2nd planking, i was quite happy to take the weather window and do some sanding outside, what ever i do, must be better than it was

Kevin got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in Phoenix by Kevin - Panart - 1/84 - Ex Amerigo Vespucci - restarted June 2020
Good evening everyone
1st and 2nd planking completed at the stern, and 90% forard i want to get the cabins in first before the front bit is completed
the stern now works for me in the respect that the balcony fits and although a lots of sanding/filler in places, i am happy with it
at present i am recovering the templates that make up the cabins, in a worst case scenario, i will remake them all
still a lot of work required on the bow
using the recovered templates where possible

Kevin got a reaction from EricWilliamMarshall in Phoenix by Kevin - Panart - 1/84 - Ex Amerigo Vespucci - restarted June 2020
Good morning everyone
1st planking continues, but as i correct things, i keep removing more of the original build, so i might have a few issues getting the new to match whats left when the 2nd planking is complete, yes it would have been easier to strip it all back but hopefully i can rescue all this and get her back to pre-strip down
the bow is much better than before and the stern, is now the troublesome area but the shape is right
this is the most fun i have had since the last time i had fun, if how ever it does not look right, i will send her to to big model ship scrapyard in the sky, the frame will not take this much treatment again
the map pins are keeping the vertical planks in place,

ty OC the mizzen is next then hoping to start the upper shrouds at the same time as adding all the missing detail on the decks,
why is it that im happiest building boats then after a while i want to do something else, get bored with that very quickly and come back to the main build

The bulwarks are on it.
Next step all 60 sils for the lowest gunports so a next update will take a while.
