  1. Thank you Sailor1234567890, i found also a hint in the most obvious place, on Wikipedia There s a nice picture of the Cutty Sark and since they where similar i ll do the stun booms as on the CS picture (click on it): https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/27/Cutty_Sark_%2816719233476%29.jpg Tomas
  2. I used wood oil which is similar to tung oil on my Thermopylae, the one that is used for indoor furniture but also for wooden spoons and this kind of stuff. So far this gave me the best results that i wanted, that is that the coating being almost invisible, like on garden furniture. Maybe even too invisible One thing that i read that is good about wood oil is that it lets the wood to "breathe", i didn t thought much about that until i discovered tiny cracks on an older model that i coated with synthetic wood lacquer many ears ago. Tomas
  3. Done the yards on the mizzen. I have a question, where are the "extensions" on the yards of the main mast suppose to be? Under the yard itself or above, any general rule? The plans show the them placed under on the lower yards, the upper ones above, is that correct? Please see the pictures for what i mean, as i am slowly learning the english nautical terms
  4. Wow i didn t know there was a maker of kits in what was Yugoslavia back then Looks like a very good quality kit. Pozdrav iz Kopra Tomas
  5. Lovely model and great skills! I tried to search google for the maker but didn t find anything, any links? Tomas
  6. I just can t stop looking at the last pictures, it s like all of a sudden the die cast ornaments that come with the kits make much more sense, i built the San Felipe many years ago, pity it was before the internet. The wood also looks great! Fantastic and very creative!
  7. Thank you, yes the scale is a real challenge, The ship keeps moving around all the time as i am working on it it s really a paperweight.
  8. Well i have no idea, unfortunately i lost the old pics due to a hard disk crash. After a long hiatus the building of the Thermopylae is continuing! In the mean time we (with my 2 kids) build the Panart s battle station, of which i posted the pics in the gallery. I am of course doing most of the work here, The masts, the standing rigging and most of the ratlines are done, nothing really interesting, apart from the difficulty because of the small size of the model. Time to do the "pennoni" (flagploes?) next.
  9. Thank you Nenad, we ll sure keep going, one of the things i want my kids to learn is to finish what we have started. It s just that it s so warm that we usually go for a ride with bycicles or something like that and then later they are too tired or have to prepare for school, Tomas
  10. Yesterday was exactly 2 months from the start of the build! Things are a bit slower than at the start, for more reasons, a bit of lack of interest but mostly unusually warm weather, so all the three builders prefer to go outside Anyway the hull and superstructure is completed, except for the anchors....masts are almost done (still dry mounted). Next of course is the rigging, not the favorite part for the chief builder, but here two pairs of small hands might help a lot
  11. The last touch of color. This is dry mounted, i am not going to paint the top masts or anything else, the white looks brighter in the pics then what it s in reality, it also tends to get a yellowish tint with years, anyway we are going to "stain" it a bit with dirty hands that shouldn t be a problem for the other two builders. What do you think?
  12. Last post for this year. We did the bowsprit, not an easy thing because of it s low angle and cut out the lower three masts (rake to be adjusted a bit later). We did some other small things, but there so time to take pictures. Time to go to a party. Happy new year to everyone in particular to those few that follow this log. T&T&T
  13. Third time i am trying to quote you. There are no lifeboats in the kit nor the material to built them, or in the plans. I guess they where left out because of the scale.
  14. Hello...some progress, we finished the brass handrails and the lifeboat "cranes"..... working with brass is something i like.... and the result direct sunlight is not the best light to take a pic of a model....
