Beef Wellington got a reaction from Piet in Eagle of Algier 1753 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - 1:48 - Chebec - Nils Langemann
Hi Niles, catching up on your progress can't believe how you accomplish so much so quickly! The rigging on this ship is fascinating a makes a nice change from the usual 19th century warships. Beautiful and innovative work as usual, love the details you've put on.

Of course everything is looking good! One thing that jumped out at me was the ladders in your earlier post, looks like there are two ladders coming up from lower deck, one port and one starboard, looks to be a very challenging setup to avoid accidents if both sides are being used simulataneously and doesn't seem to leave much headroom space when coming up - do you know if that is a unique French design?

Beef Wellington reacted to korablik1979 in Carving from Belgorod
Hello everybody.
For a long time I could not show anything new. Unfortunately. Now in my life there are big changes and I had to change my place of residence with my family. So far, new circumstances and conditions are very unusual and very different from what I'm used to. Now I do not have the opportunity to go online regularly. Therefore, I immediately want to apologize that I can not respond quickly to comments. Do not be offended, I do not ignore your comments, and I will definitely answer as soon as a good opportunity appears.
Over the years, I was busy with another project. I really liked it, I enjoyed working with this order. But now I will not show what I got after the finish. I will show a small fragment. Maybe someone can find out or guess what kind of figure it is. The only clue from me - this ship knows everything!
Sincerely, Alexander

Another brief update... more work on the quarter galleries.
The quarter galleries are a little proud at the moment, but I will be adding a strip for the tafferal (?) so this should fill in that space. It will also neaten the edge of the stern lights. These photos do give an idea of how tricky all the angles are... there's another block to go beneath the one already in place, and then the metal casting below that... On top, there are two more blocks... each has to be carefully shaped, and then duplicated on the other side. I've replaced the four walnut parts per side with two 6mm box parts (although it did feel a little wrong painting it!) Nothing's glued in place yet.
I've also filled the grain and painted the stern transom.
Happy building!
Rob

Hi,
Thank you; Jason and who visits and who likes...
I can produce only very limited updates...
Homemade blocks of 4 mm, work on bowsprit mast, blocks, shrouds, some rigging lines...

Thanks a lot for comments and likes!
Let's make some epoxy mess first:
Plane it:
Sand it:
The result is silky smooth, even before any finish!
After two coats of OSMO Polyx finish, I finally connected all wiring and permanently glued the case in place. There is no way back!
Oh, I also have a model of a ship, need to show it in the build log every now and then, as is tradition:
Now just a bunch of small things are left - install the skirt, carefully plane/sand everything to get rid of any gaps, make holes for light controls, finish sand and refinish everything.

The floor is completed! I had no extra wood, every single plank was used, just a few cutoff pieces remaining. That was close!
Now need to fill some gaps with epoxy, cross fingers and plane it smooth!

Beef Wellington reacted to Erebus and Terror in HMS Terror by Erebus and Terror - FINISHED - Scale 1:48 - POB - as fitted for polar service in 1845
Hello There Folks,
Some great news involving the OcCre model; we have reached an agreement and they are providing full attribution of my research and plans (even on the packaging).
More info here, including a chance to win a model kit!

Now after all this diversion...back to my own model!
Cheers,
E&T
P.S. Yesterday was the 171st anniversary of the desertion of HMS Terror and Erebus.

Since I'm working on the fireplaces, here's a picture now that the iron bars the pots sit on have been installed. I still have the exterior to plank and the pots to make. The flash made them redder than then actually are as they're more of a red-brown or rust color. I wanted them to look like they had been used.

I've updated the template above to include a former for the aft edge to provide support for the top and bottom templates.
quartergalleries_templates.pdf
So, here are the first attempt at the new quarter galleries... I pritt-sticked the templates to the parts on 1mm ply and cut them out (scissors and craft knife), then soaked the fascia and fixed it round a metal cutlery pot to bend it to shape... Soaking the fascia took the paper off, and I managed to build the starboard quarter gallery with the window part upside down! The effect was to make the curve upwards even more pronounced - it really looked odd... I didn't take a photo, but trust me, it was all wrong It didn't take along to get it fixed.
I'm much happier with the line... the windows are perhaps a little large - I need to have a re-measure - but I don't think they look out of place. (Note the upper counter is a card mockup and the masking tape came unstuck as I took these photos... ) The black and the white fuzz you can see is the remnants of the paper templates.
Also, this evening I finally got round to it and tidied my boat building space.... (will wonders never cease!)

Thanks for the likes and comments.
Well, I finally hit the brick wall. So rather than let it stop me, I'll go around it.
Attached photos show the blocks for the gun rigging. Unfortunately, even at 5/32" they're still too big. I tried Chuck's 1/8" blocks but had to give that up after sending an even dozen flying across the room. Too tiny to handle and to chase the holes for the .017" line. A bit frustrating to say the least as I was enjoying doing the seizings for the lines. I'm going to look for some smaller line and hope I can use these small blocks for the 6 cannons up on the weather decks. In the meantime, I'm telling myself that all that work would be hidden anyway under the decks and gangways. I think the next model will have to be 1:48....
Anyway, here's the closeups of the cannon that tested with.
Footnote1: Somewhere around the shop are 7 or 8 of the 5/32" blocks which I'm sure I'll hear the vacuum suck up.
Footnote2: The black hook in the first photo is one of Dafi's 2mm hooks. Even the thin sowing thread looks huge when blown up.
Time to go install deck furniture and build her galleys.

Thank you for the likes and the comments.
Meanwhile back in the shipyard, the guns are all installed and have their breeching ropes. I put in temporarily two markers for the ends of the quarter and fore decks to check for tolerances and to think things through more on the rigging of the mainmast. So far, so good. There should be about 12 or 16 eyebolts with blocks for rigging behind the mainmast but that's not going to happen so I'll have to move those lines up to the quarterdeck. Next up is making and installing the cannon traversing tackle which will be fun but also a pain as the parts are so tiny. I'm using 5/16 inch Chuck Blocks for these. I thought about using the 1/8" blocks but they're too tiny for these guns. Oh well.. maybe for the 4 pounders topside and also for some of the rigging.
Here's the photos...
