I haven't done this myself (yet) but I believe you can darken the shrouds with 'India Ink'.  I'm sure others with more experience can provide more insight, but would seem to be an straightforward task.  She is looking wonderful, and I'm sure whatever you decide it will look great.

    Hi Juergen,

You are right and have a very kind manner in your notice...
I don't think that the shrouds were white...
But I decided to left them as the kit had supplied...
I think my decision is wrong but I don't want another effort to buy and replace the ropes, I am an obsessive man and sometimes this temper fatigues me and sometimes to break this temper makes me feel happy... that situation is one of them...

Ferit - the front port under the deck is a bridleport and would not have had a cannon mounted there.  The front and aft "decks" are really just platforms as they are probably about half height of a typical deck.  The original design did not have them, and I suspect they were added to provide some additional protection and functionality.  I can't really comment on the plans with 100% confidence, but comparing them to the drafts on the NMM site (HMS Cruizer and HMS Bellette/Gannet are available) they seem pretty much in line.  Where the plans are a little deficient is in the detailing (ladder size, chain placement) but I none of these present any huge problem, just a bit of thinking.  Once I realized that the plans were not 100% accurate I felt much better just working the pieces in a way that felt like it made sense.

Andy - I'm sure you're right, my main struggle has been with the closure of the deadeyes metal strops on the chain as these tend to pop out if forced (the gap is right at the bottom of the strop, soldering just didn't work for me).  It took a lot of time to make the chains so they were the correct length, the result is that there is a variable amount of play in them.  My main challenge is I never seem to get more than 15mins at a time to work on her so getting 'into the zone' is a challenge.  Your Pegasus continues to look better and better by the way

Its only a small update, but its the only one I have.  I seem to have got bogged down in the chains, not sure whether I'm obsessing too much or just not getting enough time in one sitting to get in the right frame of reference and get it done because these are proving really fiddly.  To try to get the right line of the chains I used the plans to estimate the heights of the various stays/shrouds and marked on tape on the hull.  One item I may have miscalculated, I realized a little late that perhaps the deadeyes should slope inwards a little more rather than sitting almost vertical on the channels.  I'm hoping this won't  be too obvious as I'm not sure I have the appetite to change, its hard to see on photos of other builds.  Starboard side done, larboard about 50%.

    Photos are pretty self explanatory.

Hi Jason, thanks very much.  To make those hooks for the cannons, I didn't use the photoetch hooks that Norman is describing because they were too big, but instead used the brass eyelets that came with the kit (cut the eyelet out and then bent it into a hook shape).  I think this was the size in the kit:

The galleries have now been completed there is one more bit to add on the top but that will be done when the quarterdeck rails have been added, no real problems adding the trim and decoration and the photos show the stages, now back to the plating only a few more rows on the second side to go.

    Decoration going on one side

    That side done

    Decoration going on the stern

    Rudder
i attached a piece of wood under the rudder so that i had it in the right position

the pins and brackets were easy enough to fit (must learn the correct names) - glued into position before matching to the hull, then was able to marked where the holes required to be drilled in the stern post

coppering will be done son possibly after the British F1 race this afternoon (dont care who wins - so long as it is Lewis Hamilton)

i have moved the plates of the stern post and will not copper the fwd facing edge of the rudder, as it will kill any clearance id have and look to tight, but might change my mind later

    all the best

OK, I got back this morning from a few days away. I completed the boats before I went and here's the results (I made a mistake of the 34' launch - the stern goes too high because I designed the stern board with the top strake incorporated into it, but because I'm an idiot, I had forgotten this when it came to planking. I have since re-designed the stern board so it's more obvious where the upper hull planking should go - but I simply haven't the time to rectify it..)

The Vallejo paints really seemed to work well in hiding the fact that these parts are photo etched brass:

I know the rudders would not be hung in place on the stowed boats (and impossible for the 18' cutter), but I included them anyway:

    Cutter was 'clinkered':

    All four boats done:

    And dry fitted in place:

With hindsight, I should have been a little more careful regarding the placement of the stanchions near the boats, they are a little too close to the edge, so the boats are bunched up a little more than they should be...

ETA - I did think about adding another two cutters, but there seems to be conflicting info on these, plus they are clinker planked, too...

Transom is finished……on the outside !
    The inside need some planking.
Also both quarter gallery's are in place.
It's not perfect again but I'm happy with it and I let is stay this way.
After planking the inside of the transom, I have to scratch two new storage room.
The old ones are now to small
Shall we say that it keeps me of the street ?
And of course a few pictures.

Richard, Hamilton - thanks for the kind words

Ferit - You're far too kind!  There are a number of items that of course I see and wished I could have gone back to redo, but I'm happy with the learning experience.  I love a quote that I saw on someone else's log "Thats what first builds are all about, second builds"

Anja, David, ZyXuz, Timmo, Sjors, Andy, Jim - thanks for the birthday wishes!  When I saw all the comments I was thinking that somehow there must have been a lot of progress on my ship while I was sleeping...but sadly no   I've not been able to get much time in the shipyard recently, but I can feel her calling out to me...too many outside projects and nice weather.

Jim - looking forward to see you moving forward again!

This is why I seem to make such slow progress, decided that I couldn't live with the knightheads as they were so had a go at fixing.  Photos pretty self explanatory, removed the paint, loosened the PVA glue by saturating with rubbing alchohol and filled the holes.  I then shortened the knightheads by the thickness of the rail and pinned securely in place. Much happier with the result and the deviation from the plans, I'll leave everything else as is.

For you I make a picture from the unfinished transom
    Are you now happy ?
And it is not a door on the right but there is one post of a window that is gone…….

I also paint the quarter galley at the port side.
    So thats finished
Now I can go to the starboard side.

    Good afternoon everyone

after doing some more work on the 1/4 galleries yesterday - i have turned my attention to the poop deck, after the flag lockers were put in i had very little space above them so i have built the stern up another 2mm to give a bit of space, The sky light is in process of having 50+ windows fitted as the top rail for the port side is waiting for the under side to dry, nice to get back into it

I've read others have had challenges with the alignment of the stern and quarter galleries but you seemed to have nailed it Ray.  Coppering looks great as well.
