I have had a little time on my hands and instead of starting in on the F-86 I looked at those unfinished kits some 90% complete! Why do we walk away from some and leave them collecting dust? So,I thought what a perfect opportunity to finish these guys off while I a wait the glass for the new cabinet and a 1/32 HK Mosquito Mk IX/XVI coming tomorrow .

F-86F-30 Sabre by Javlin - FINISHED - Kinetic - 1/32

I am taking pictures before and after Denis thinking of starting a thread "The Unfinished to Finished" something to that intent. I hope so Mark it's been a pain/pressure in the eyes, face is still swollen and you cannot blow or sneeze and it's full of blood and mucus. The issue of sleep is tough right now upright I was wondering why so many pain pills it's for the pressure behind the eyes I figure. -

I have not been totally idle guys I decided to have an OP procedure done was under about 3 hrs last Tuesday Rhinoplasty and one side of the nose was about 70/80% useless so said lets do it all,it sucks not being able to breathe. So,I wait on the glass for the cabinet but I decided before I progress Further with the F-86 I wanted to finish those kits that are 60/70/80% complete. Thus I have finished the F-16 1/48,HK B-25 1/32,F-84 1/72 and a old 1/32 Revell Hurricane next to hit the table is 1/48 MC-205 and 1/48 dorsal fin P-47 Revell.I have four other planes that need to be finished 1/24 FW-190 D-9,1/24 Spit Mk-V,1/32 P-47 and last may hit the trash a Revell 1/48 Mosquito. I have HK's 1/32 Mosquito Mk-IX/XVI coming in Monday. Some interesting builds out there guys. Kevin -

Guys I appreciate all the looks and interest but this build will be slowed not for lack of interest on my part but Life says other things first!I have officially run out of storage room I started a box some time back and I need to build another also for the office/model room it measures 48"LX22"D"X34"H plus I have a table restoration gig for fella graying included. So when I get an hour or two to work on the 86 I will but the F-16 gots to come first. Yes it will EG and I think I will use some of the Gloss Grey by Alclad over the Gloss Black of some panels and see the effect as discussed earlier in your thread I think Airframe Silver it's kinda bright. -
I have commence on the Sabre this evening first thing in order was to remove the pore stubs from the moldings a bit of sanding on the tub that actually hit the sanding belt for 5/10minutes to get if close then another 15 minutes by hand it fits correctly level with the r/side of the fuse. The next order of business is to cut out the front console for newer one much more detailed and you can see how the back deck is much Nicer than the kit part oh and the seat blows the kit part away. The kit supplies the appropriate weight for the nose nice touch no guessing their on this one.The build is going to center on the pit and paint the engine is made like the old Hase were it can be separated paint some and glue it shut. I continue to move slowly of this have the ordnance installed now with the tanks.I am still fussing over the canopy may just take some ammonia to the clear part of it and take off the future I tried spraying it instead of the usual dip and got foggy some polish helped but not to my liking have to see and think.I still have to put the glass on the sniper pod a decal for the H213 pod and respray the nose after a lite sanding. All in all I have enjoyed this one and learned some things along the way appreciate the info and corrections Joe. -
I used Future on the F-84 it seemed to work well usually not a big fan of sealers for the reasons you speak of and the reason I don't play with powders as much I have a bottle of SNJ powder I use for touchups.I bought some of Alchald's clear light sheen in N.Orleans the other day just to see but even Testors Metalize Clear knocked the sheen down a bit hence why I backed off for the F84 I still/forgot the OD anti-glare panel also and decals are on the future should protect them. Will be watching to see your results.

I have used powders and they can do up a nice effect but beware the fingers once applied do gloss afterwards before decals are laid or you will have silver in the decals.I have often thought that if you shaded the panels beneath one should get variations in color(s) provided the paint is sprayed oh by the way I usually applied the powder over a silver paint.I think if you did gloss black, rattle can bright silver and pick panels with the powder you will get a Nice effect. A gloss coat of black gives a shiny coat you could gloss coat a flat black and probably get a shiny finish but why dig a ditch and fill it up when a gloss black will do the job?I did a flat black on a PTO P-38 it came out grainy and flat hated it "Virginia Marie" I use Alclad Black Lacquer Primer Gloss it works well NM is a medium I am becoming more and more comfortable with. Kevin here are the two planes the left is VM(about 4/5 years back) flat black the other gloss black(3yers ago) depending on the paints used Alclad goes down thin and I really could of used more on VM and the other while I did a better job still a little more was needed it shows in angles.

So how long did it take you?I like belts but some companies are more of a pain than others I used RB Productions for the P-51 "Flying Dutchman" about 1 1/2 --2 hrs tops printed paper Now HGW's while nicer in the fabric a PIA for the very reason the material webbing was different.I am RB from here on out maybe it's I am just use to the procedure,The build is looking thus far EG I just wished I like the 104 more looks like a skinny lady Kevin

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
