Thanks for all the likes, another small update...got the masts permanently mounted and the ship itself mounted to the base, also got the running rigging tightened up and run to the belaying pins

for now everything is just looped off and held with a drop of ca, I'll create some loops to simulate additional line and slip it over pins...still have to work up the shrouds and stays, slow but sure

well summer is upon us again (you may have noticed there have been no updates for awhile) and the shipyard is closed again for the season, I'll pick it back up when I return, for now I've been lazing around the campground all season, catching up on my reading and enjoying retirement, I decided to pull the plug last month...so far so good...more to come in the fall

Well fall is upon us and the shipyard is again open...the HL shrouds are going up, I hope to post pics tomorrow...once I can get the camera and the laptop to get along. J

Finally got the pics off my stupid camera

I decided to make a few jigs to help with the dead-eye/shroud install, just some cardboard with double face tape applied, added some slots at the top to hold the shroud line

here you can see all four jigs in place, each dead-eye is popped off one at a time to finish the rigging

This is the mainmast, I've added some small clips to help the tape hold...sorry for the poor pic quality and focus, this is a different camera then I normally use, just a small point and shoot as opposed to my dslr rig...we'll have to see, it is more convenient but so far I'm not convinced the convenience is worth it...time will tell

Well that's it for now, thanks for looking in, more tomorrow

the mizzen isn't glued in is it?   seems like quite a bit of rake there.   usually,  the fore stays and main stays are installed first to help set the rake.  the shrouds are done next.....not to the same tension of the stays.   they will help keep the masts perpendicular until the back stays are added.....they will take over and render the shrouds with hardly any tension at all {a tiny bit of slack is allowed}.   the mizzen looks good with the boom and gaff...got it painted and detailed quite nicely.   your jig idea is pretty cool too  :)

Thank everyone for the likes and kind comments, a small update...

First my attempt at inducing waves into the flag failed miserably...

327-flagfail.JPG.bd8b8bda46c4e6abbf65100e2142cdff.JPG

as you can see it just straightened out...made of nylon, I think, so the white glue didn't penetrate the fibers...soooo I thought I'd try to heat set it...unfortunately there are no photos of the resulting failure and no flag left to photo anyway...the flare up and resulting flames were quite lovely though🙄 not a technique I could recommend, I will make the replacement from paper

T made the fore splash shield out of card stock and got it mounted and painted out

the anchors are hung from their chains...still not sure how I'll mount them, may just lash them to the cat-heads

Another update...I decided to do a little more then just tie off the ships boats, so some rudimentary tackle was made and used to hang the boats...8622087_333-boattackle.JPG.5c40e85a6b1b9e74e59259f230e13064.JPG

340-ditto.JPG.6a39f4728f9f5d1fc769d1ef0a7e1c78.JPG

once those were complete I was studying the ratlines and was really unhappy with them, they were all uneven, and I could not keep the shrouds straight and the hitches were really out of scale...so I stripped them to start over.

1815628056_335-nasytratlinestoo.JPG.4f8ee533667aee94febbcae539235b33.JPG

885805474_334-nastyratlines.JPG.4f8e8fa7874818e15ae803e1b23da9fb.JPG

That's when I remembered Hubert Sicard had an alternate technique on his Wooden Ship Modeling for Dummies site...he called them Express ratlines.

The process starts with a fixture made of sheet plastic with notches cut-in  and spacers applied, the jig goes in behind the shrouds and then the rats are locked into the notches and glued down...all is trimmed when the glue sets

This process worked really well...Thanks Hubert, you are missed...I'll include pics of the finished ratlines in my next post, thanks for looking in

that method you showed to make ratlines looks really neat.   it looks like it would be just the ticket for smaller scale ratlines,  since clove hitches would look out of scale.   very nice progress......she's looking super  :)        too bad about the flag.

Thanks for the likes...first up a pic of the finished ratlines I promised...

975372812_341finishedratlines.JPG.50cd7fe529adb953c38a798fb68b65ca.JPG

I'm happy with the way they turned out...if I were to do it again I would reduce the spacing a bit...set to 1/4 in and i think 3/16 may have been better.

next up is the reworked flag, printed one 1509137705_343-newflag.JPG.daccf9cc3554c5cf0c772839352df67b.JPG

and set the waves before gluing the sides together

344-waving.JPG.b5a3d7f652864ab30868d2a300ca5ed7.JPG

and finally raised

1512152237_345-andraised.JPG.dc440b986ec14ff764ee5b03da541ed7.JPG

after that I finished the bow tackle by securing the anchors, just tied them off to the catheads and lashed them to the rail, each will be finished with a deck coil...speaking of which here is a pic of my coil jig, same process many others have discussed on the site.

383115842_342-anchorrigging.JPG.09fc15cc41552d7c9a6daa452c96eee2.JPG

1314734408_345-coilinprocess.JPG.08a28a7b83258017ca7ef845bae2870d.JPG

and one of the finished coil ready to install, stuck to a piece of tape to keep it from walking away

346-complete.JPG.c00c7d666477586cb24863b588bfd9d5.JPG

It was at this point that disaster struck...I was reaching to set the camera down and my sleeve caught the the boom...

347-disaster.JPG.ed6e4997ce7140c749673c2fc6938c48.JPG

she snapped right at the point where the cleats were mounted...I think drilling to mount them seriously weakened it, so a repair is in order.

After strengthening the ends with CA I drilled holes in the center of each section into which a pin is inserted effectively holding the two halves together, its a technique I've used successfully before, so all should be well...
