It has been slow going but I now have the bulkheads in and the blocks. I am now working on fairing the frame. I did run into a spot of trouble with the two bow blocks and had to fabricate two new ones.

What does everyone use to fair their frames? I'm using a hand sander that is about three inches long and one inch wide.

For mine I used a sanding block. It's rigid so it helps in fairing.. I just stapled sanding paper onto a old whiteboard eraser.

If you are checking with a spare piece of planking, and the run of the plank looks OK on the faired piece, you should be OK.  Just from looking at it, it looks alright.  But you won't really know until you need to bend the strip around the corner and see how it lays.  Looking good though!

Thanks overworked724! That's going to be a very tight bend in that area.

Yes it was extremely tight on mine. It made it very hard to plank that area, but it's doable with some clamps and some patience. I also had to hold it for 30 mins at some times to make sure the glue was set. The shape looks good!

I totally agree with you on the basswood.  It is very hard to work with and get and edge,  Sanding makes it extremely hairy as well...  Regardless, you have done a stellar job with the kit supplied wood!
