RMS Titanic by hof00 - Academy - 1/400 - PLASTIC - Anniversary Edition

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Over the past few days, I have been dabbling with the Academy Titanic.

This is the first plastic model that I have attempted in many years. (The Dark Side?)

The kit comes with PE and Wooden Deck.

This is also my first PE exposure.

I have started on the Fore and Aft Decks, painting what is required and removing plastic, not required for the Wooden Decks.

I have done the same for all three Main Decks

Planking applied. (A note: Planking is not Laser Cut, just an outline, so separate components with a sharp blade....)

Tried my hand at the PE, some errors, (Learning Curve), and have ordered replacement PE from Toms Model Works and Eduard.

(The PE is so fragile....)

Anyway, on with the build, don't know if I'll be able to use all PE, some components are way above my ability at this stage, so, some details may be the plastic variety.)

Photos tomorrow.

Cheers....HOF.

Completed Builds:

A/L Bluenose II

A/L Mare Nostrum

Sergal/Mantua Cutty Sark

A/L Pen Duick

A/L Fulgaro

Amati/Partworks 1/200 Bismarck

A/L Sanson

Small update,

Not very productive today, thought I'd try my luck with a piece of PE Rail around the Compass? Platform that attaches to the Poop Deck.

After an hour or so, it broke, attempts to repair were not good, so discarded. (Hope the replacement PE arrives soon....)

Well,, I have to be positive in the face of adversity, at least I'm learning.

I also managed to beak a Davit Arm last night trying to separate from the PE fret.

I think that tomorrow, I'll get the Airbrush out and get the White bits painted, there's a lot of White bits

Some photos.... (There are quite a few of these builds on this site, so, you have probably seen similar before....)

Cheers....HOF.

Hi All,

Happy New Year!!

Small update:

Working on the Superstructure/Decks.

Got the Toms PE and has some nice details, Stoke Hold Vents, Etc, Etc....

Have started the Deck "Sandwich' which makes things a little more rigid, also added the front superstructure/Bridge windows as this needs to be as accurate as possible.

Started to drill out the superstructure side Port Holes, I don't think I'll bother too much with the Hull.

So, an interesting exercise thus far....

Cheers....HOF.

Oy 'arry, 'appy new year mate.

Yes, PE can be a pain in the hiney ... I switch blades quite regularly, and use two types No 11 and 24 from Swann-Mortonn, just to make certain I can cut the PE and not distort it. Don't use old blades, you'll regret it - Eduard will like you if you keep on ordering new sets though ;).  You are making good progress

Cheers

Thanks Chap,

Happy New Year to you also.

Yup, the Ship is coming along.

I would call this a "Primer" for Plastic and PE.

I've got a 1/72 U-Boat with a Pontos detail up set and a 1/200 Bismarck with a MK1 detail set waiting for my attentions at some stage....

(Still waiting on the Eduard stuff.)

All the best.

Cheers....HOF.

I think I know those other kits, The Bismark Channel did, and the U-boat is probably the same as Yves Vidal's here on the forum. Eduard stuff from Europe or from BNA Models?

Cheers mate

Hi Chap,

Yup, the Bismarck is Trumpeter and the U-Boat is Revel, Yves version is Trumpeter, 1/48.

The Titanic Kit PE is so fragile, Tom's seems better, still waiting on Eduard (From Europe)....

Just seen Chris's 1/350 Minecraft build, I don't think I'll be able to achieve as good as this but am trying.... 😀

This build is for my partner, she is a big Titanic fan!!

I am procrastinating a little today, thinking about the Yellow stripe at the top of the Hull, should I drill out the Hull Portholes, another attempt at railing, etc.

The best thing for me is just to get into it. 😀

Cheers and Regards,

Harry.

I think you should drill out the portholes ... when you paint the hull those won't be plugged by paint ;) Although, thee are quite a few, but since you are waiting for NZ-post and Eduard ... you'll probably have time on your hands to do just that. So get into it, mate

Cheers

Carl
