Rail IS on with proper height and thickness front.

A bit of cheat there. Forward Columns are properly thinned to scale. Rest IS left i finally dont have  nerves  to deal with that stuff....so ať the back - . Iittle Imagination to be used. Please dont complain about that :) its second batch of 45 Columns shaping every each with hands.

Im Happy they are proper height and thickness front. Thanks for view or  any comment. :)V.

Finally i broke ladder making IT smaller to púť IT under step. I got angry :) Generálly  i really dont care fór such details. I would be pretty much Happy leaving those Up. In my view IT doeant add any more autenticity for me. Because than going that way fór autenticity They should be Also shaped and angled properly.maybe other time i Will do IT. :)

. I did IT with 1:24 cutty sark but here i dont really care. :) Give me laser cut prototype any day :)) as far as height of companionways...doors are 1 inch of height. I doubt they Made those Higher than len height quite contrary. So i uplifted IT with  platform and leaving IT as IT IS. :)

WOW!  Vlad...you are cooking now...so much work is finished and you even made some corrections....Just like me.

I hope you are not offended with me, If I ever made any judgements concerning your build.  You've done so well and followed your own path.  You have much to be proud of.

I do have one question:

You said you wanted to build her as she was originally built on the ways at Donald McKay's yard.  If that is true, then the chicken house would not have been erected at that time.  It followed the 1872 refit/remodel.  Personally, I don't have any problems with it being there.....it looks nice and you did so well constructing it.  I say this NOT as a criticism, but as an historical fact.  The main hatchway would have been there.

Honestly, I'm very impressed, your copper work is stellar as is much of everything else.

I have to up my game and get a few more things finished.  I did draw out the main cabins footprint on the deck, if that counts for anything.......

Vladimir, your model is shaping up quite nicely. I agree with Rob, your coppering job is first rate! That you did anything different with the sidelong Carriage House rail stanchions isn't even noticeable. My only bone of contention is the rear Companionway is too short. I'm sure you agree. Maybe you could lop of the top, insert a section and reattach the top to make it just high enough for the rear rail to attach to it. Of course, this is just a suggestion, it's your model, not mine, so you decide what you feel most comfortable with. The rest of your Glory is top shelf. I particularly appreciate the over all scenes of her busy deck.

As for the chicken coop over the main hatch. I've read that as soon as a vessel was underway, the ship's carpenter would raise structures over all the hatches to store livestock, sometimes including even cows! Rob's right that at launch the structure wouldn't be on yet. Again it depends on what you feel comfortable with as it's nobody's model but yours and it's already a beauty.

Vladimir, your overall shots confirm the impressive beauty of your build as well as your dedication to reproducing a very accurate representation of Glory herself.

Michael Mjelde likes my proposal of writing an NRG article describing how we are carefully recreating "GLORY of the SEAS" through our introspective evaluation of the many rare, unseen photos he's shared with us. In light of this, I think having comparison shots where the models are in identical positions as the historic photos, so observers can see how accurately your work has been done.

Thanks Rich for valuable comment and praising words. I think youre right. it looks odd with rail . I will definitely raise companionway to the height of rail that would be correct. i will try to photo her with cleaner background without mess behind her after she is finished. V.

Vladimir, the height above deck was 3' with the rail height being 6" less. At least that was my best estimate. I think you'll feel much better once it's corrected.

Some beauty shots will be much appreciated, especially if you can match those that Mike has sent us of Glory herself.

Its middle october 2021. Coincidentally. I have to  mention Mr.Mjelde and quote my most loved direct passage from his book about launch of the ship.

Thursday, october 21, 1869.

Donald McKay went down to his shipyard early that morning to attend to last minute duties. This was a day of enormous import to him and he had prepared carefully for the grave and proud occasion. Dressed in black suit, a white shirt with winged collar a large bow tie, and sporting a black top hat, he was conspicuous among his workmen.

During the hours before the crowds started assembling, McKay men raised long poles at glorys fore main and mizzen mastholes, since she was being launched unrigged and then decorated her with bright flags and streamers.

A United States Jack flew from the pole made fast to the outboard end of her bowsprit. A huge American flag flapped aft in the brisk morning breeze.

For nearly five months Glory of the Seas had taken form through the painstaking craft of her creator . Now the time had come for her to leave the security of McKays shipyard. A large crowd started to gather. City dignitaries, friends, yard employees and their families began climbing up the building ramp on her starboard side. On reaching the top of the ramp, just under the fore channels, they mounted a ladder that connected the ramp and ships bulwark and were aboard.

Shortly before noon Mary McKay came out of their home, Eagle Hill, at 80 White Street, with five of her six children, all especially well-dressed for the occasion. The youngest , one year old Wallace, made the teip to the shipyard  via baby carriage, while three year old Guy and five year old Anna walked by their mother down the hill to Border Street. Although Frances, fifteen and her brother Lawrence nine should have been in school, their mother had obtained permission for them to forgo lessons and attend this family event.

At noon, the tide in Boston harbor was at its highest. To Frances fell the honors of the day. She stood on the building ramp alongside the ship. Her father gave a command, and the remaining spurs and shores were knocked out. The harsh sound of hammer bows and splinters wood were replaced by gentle squeaks and squeals as the stately ship slowly began to move. Clutching the traditional bottle Frances swung it saying "I christen The

 "Glory of the Seas".

Loud applause and shouts from hundreds of people echoed over the water. Gathering momentum, Glory majestically slid down the ways into Boston harbor all her flags and streamers snapping proudly in the wind. It was most successful launch.

At this point the future held desperate hopes for Donald McKay...

------

I have to put down few words adressing my fellow Companions on this journey. Disputing quality of work and usuall obsession to cleanlinees or opticall preferences, I set those aside at this moment.

Lines, and curvatures are for me the most important parts of every ship.

As one person said. is ship pbuioding difficult? i dont know but be aware in all elegancy, there is not single right 90 degrees angle. ! that is what makes is Unique and - difficult.

I wont post as many pictures as all was posted so far and more they are more it puts off. Only few i like the most. I want to get sentimental and  look back at crucial part of build.

I want to thank everyone watching or anything but especially to Rob and Richard.

I want to stress one thing. There will never be definite shape of  Glory of the seas no matter how many milion photographs ever appears... .but There will be few very close. I believe mission was accomplished and we should be proud!

When it all started almost three quartes of year now, I feared one thing. Most of, despite of digital drawing which gave us some balls  countles measurements and predictions... whether changes assumes observef and provided to existed bulkheads with shape curvature wont fail us in regard of bow and stern approach elegancy correctnes and cohesion. I was nervous myself and not satisfied up to the point of planking. We were safe. It surely was not Kit building.

There will be many observations whether stern should be slightly a tad  more curvilinear or slightly more rounded at the bottom or at the rail part.

I look forward to ever attempt. I am from noncoastal country. I compledted my passion. And more . I contributed to Michaels Mjelde legacy to Keep alive legacy what was left out of Blunt ignorance of not coppering hull in her late years...of vessel that could easily surpass cutty sark in beauty ...Because AS much beautiful IS outline profile of so called americam clipper.

But not me  - we built her! i will carry this year and collaboration with you guys with warm and friendly feeling, thoughtfull respect and wisdom included. Thank you no matted who pointer or helped with what. evefy single one was crucial.

Last surprising part. I decided i will part with my 1:72 glory. I was thinking a lot about it with heavy heart. but its a natural part of me as I long for something to possess to thepoint I dont reach it, and my inner self is no more fulfilled with owning something. after that it always goes as hard IT IS for me . As with every other build I make. . Saying this it was not easy decision even i have certainty i can give her almost for free not owning royalties and considering engineering her, time material out ome and so on. for the most part i wish more people could see her in reality not in pictures and i feel she belongs to American people  more than to me or my country or to someone who dont give a dumb what it is...besides - not only that photos are like sex thru the window comparing real exeprince same with modeling or seing painting in gallery or reproduction...beauty of 3 D is real feel ...some photos are always wide lens - in order to squeeze ship into the frame - and it surely distorts her overall beauty and proportions to such extent its almost shamefull of what naked eyes see. when having ship in front in reality. its differene between 3D and 2 D objects... ... if you knew about anyone who would probably want her for very little- and will be surprised how little. please let me know...otherwise i would sell her in Slovakia..speaking of deck laying differs. but i know i built her body with my heart commited - precision and care to show original plank layout and complete moldings ornamentals and so on...

Vladimir,  Have you thought of selling through eBay (auction)?  The owner of HisModels (Czechoslovakia) sells some of his stock that way (although with a 'buy now' fixed price), and the rest of his shop is direct.  For an eBay auction, your starting price would be the lowest you'd find acceptable - then it goes up from there when there are bidders.  The money is handled by eBay.  You have put in much work on the 1:72 model, and I think you should get what the international market will bring.  Of course shipping is something major to consider, given the size of the hull.  (Are the mast stub removable?) It would have to be completely bubble-wrapped and in one sturdy (reinforced) box, then that box is bubble wrapped and put into a larger shipping carton.  Cost to ship overseas will be costly, so figure that in your minimum price.

I was a clerk in a telescope store (a side line to supplement meager earnings as a Pharmacy technician) for 10 years, and we shipped fragile astronomy gear all over.  The makers in China or Mexico put them in pre-formed styrofoam shells inside cartons, but loose items from out store (eyepieces, finders, binoculars) were packed by us using the two carton method.  For a large, oblong box that the Glory would need, surrounding the inner box with plywood might be needed to prevent torquing, bending or crushing - the outer box can take some beating as there would be plenty of bubble wrap between the cartons.

You have done an outstanding job, and an excellent collaborator with Rob and his 1:96 version.  I wish you all the best!   Johnny

Vlad, Congratulations on the finalization of your build of Glory of the Seas.   Your hull represents what so many hours of study, measuring  and hard reconstruction looks like.   You should be proud of yourself.

I could have never come as far as I have without your instrumental help in gaining the bulkheads and framing for my own build

I have copies of all the frames and I would have had to hand cut them all,  if it were not for your generosity in having them laser cut.

I hope you will keep us informed with the history and what’s in store with your magnificent Glory of the Seas

I’ll be moving along with my complete build and I hope you remain a vigilant viewer and contributor.

This has been great fun.

Vladimir,

Such a lovely tribute to "GLORY of the SEAS" with your recounting of her exciting launch. It's almost as if I was there myself, hearing the laughing of the gulls circling overhead, the crisp fall smell of the salt sea air and the feel of the magnificent Hull as she gained speed and finally the noble strength of the vessel as she proudly floated free in the natural habitat she was born to live in.

Sadly she's long gone, lost in a funeral pyre, victim of short sighted neglect and business exploitation. Yet her indefatigable spirit lives on in the intrepid efforts of those of us inspired to resurrect her true beauty in numerous, exacting sketches and now in two wonderously unique scale replicas. Vladimir, you and Rob have done magnificent work. I am proud and honored to be associated with you both.

For whatever personal reason you have for wanting to sell your amazing creation, I encourage you to have a little patience.

Eventually I plan on following Michael Mjelde's advice and write an article for Nautical Research Journal about the incredible journey we have all taken in our painstaking efforts to bring Glory back to life. Mike even suggested Rob and your models be featured in this work. Such exposure should only heighten the asking value of your production. For that matter, I would also be willing to contact J Russell Jinishian, owner of the Maritime Art Gallery, Stonington, CT. Maybe he would be willing to work with you too. Years ago, he established The Mystic Maritime Art Gallery, in fact I believe he was the initial curator. I believe you deserve to be fairly compensated for such a lovely piece of artisan's work.

Rich.  I can’t think of anyone better to spearhead an article on the subject for publication in the Nautical Research Journal.  Your literally and descriptive skill set would be well employed at such a task.

Personally , I am going to miss the continual updates and thrill of watching Vlad’s model come alive.  Like everything, models do have finish dates.

Mine’s probably a year or more down the road.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. One thing I'm continually learning as I mature (as if we ever do) is to ditch "false humility." It does nobody any good to be ashamed of a talent. As I'm sure you've noticed, I can be quite verbose sometimes. Which may or may not be a good thing. Anyways I'm beginning to think of this next step of our project as possibly being a 2-parter. One to incorporate all of our advance work on correcting Glory's hull and a second installment upon the completion of your entire Glory build.

I agree entirely

Did you get the email from Mike?

Apparently I did make some Naval hood errors according to our Australian friend.

I see his point, but there is no turning back on that one.  See……no body is perfect …… especially me.

Johnny

Thanks for daring comment John, im glad you like her. i still male some corrections though as probably changing masts to composite ones as originally adding some ladders and so on. but wont  make lifeboats etc...highly apreciated advices, all considered...well lets see how it all turns out...all good. Rob,

I haven't been able to open up the image Mike attached to his email yet. I can say this though. Our research in regards to Glory's bow, naval hoods, cutwater and figurehead dimensions was meticulously accurate. That's because working with known dimensions, the Bowsprit being 24' inboard of her cap and her figurehead being exactly 90", you and I were able to precisely calculate exact distances of these interrelated devices. Glory's Goddess 'Athene's crown aligns perfectly in the center of Bands #3 & #4 above on her Bowsprit. Since the band #1 is 18" outboard and the rest of the bands are exactly 3' apart, we can calculate that her figurehead projects 9' outwards. The tip of her Naval Hoods terminates at band #3, 18" shy of 'Athene's crown, making her Naval Hoods project 7 & 1/2' outwards. I'd have to see an exact Starboard broadside of your model to see if it exactly matches this crystal clear photo but besides that, I have never seen a more faithful reproduction of Glory than yours.

Ah Well :) thats tiny bit.ibelieve je IS more than Happy with what goes behind. Fullness of body :)

I underscore Richs words Rob.

By the way I am about to make second attempt as figurehead goes -  having it made larger. There IS always place for corrections of something which IS part of every work. Im railing off some modelers nature - not showing mistakes. Its natural part of life. Ať least i view IT that way :) matter fear I stop in eyes of "masters" :) i dont really care a slightest bit...

Rob,

What's immediately noticeable is that the base of your Naval Hood is deeper than the bulkhead height above it. Since the external depth of the main bulkhead above is 4 feet and the Naval Hoods are 3 & 1/2 feet they're 6" narrower than the height above. Again, I apologize for not pointing it out but I didn't want to be nit-picking your work. It's still beautiful, even with this minor mistake and until someone does a more precise job, it's the best representation of Glory's bow I've ever seen.

My dilemma is in trying to help you identify inaccuracies without seeming to hound either one of you.

As stated elsewhere,  I noticed it from the start but opted to NOT tear all my work out for such a minor discrepancy

Vlad,

Apparently it has been a while since I last checked in on your build. You have been busy! What a beautiful job, she is really starting to come together. I love the details you are putting into the woodwork on the cabins and nice work on the coppering.

Mind you, I changed and redid and corrected many errors...such as removing and rebuilding her bowsprit because it was way off scale and far too small.  Similarly, like what you are doing with her figurehead.

Some changes just need to be made because scale actually changes other crucial items.  But slight perspective errors in most cases are either fabricational errors or simply oversight and are generally not outside the privy of the modelers license.
