HMS Bounty by MeandSuzy1 - Artesania Latina - Scale 1:48

Recommended Posts

I made my upper grating a bit more robust. 4mmx4mm walnut (yes I'll probably run out of some woods) .. oh well. Squaring up the gratings to glue in.. I use one side of real sharp toe nail clippers. Clean. I put them together at approx length, then mix 50/50 white glue and water. Brush it on back side. Let dry then form to final size

Hi Doug,

One point to keep in mind going forward, the grating, the opening of which are about 2.5" to 3",  should be closed on all four sides rather than open.  I find it easier to make the gratings then fit the head ledges and coaming pieces around it.  Overall the size may be slightly different than on the plans, but very close if not right on the mark.

Doug,  Take a look at a few photos of contemporary models  when you have a chance.  The gratings invariably are set up as in the sketch above.  Also, keep in mind that the head ledges usually have some rounding, often steeper than the deck beams.  Not so much on the lower decks, but more so on the upper decks.

One pic is below from a contemporary model at Preble Hall as an example, as well as a sketch we did for volume II of Euryalus showing the rounding of the head ledges.

Put it on a wee pedestal I made. Cut top off a small AL barrel. Hallowed a Qtip shaft. I think nicer cause then the wire can go under deck

You're very welcome.  The other "extras" you've done are also exceptional.  I'm enjoying following along and can't wait to see your video presentation of the finale of your build.

Take care and be safe.

I'm back temporarily guys.. just a quick post and question.. I "think" I'm ready to plank hull. I'll have to figure out how to conceal wires as I go,but. What i think I've figured is I got to dremel radiuses on ribs so as to allow planks to form.  I'm cutting guncase foam to fit in hopes of not trashing stuff inside..  any pointers appreciated

Well part of me is back guys. I hardly even figured out how to log in. I was taken off a 21 yr string of a pill called clonazepam in early June. Put on antidepressants.  Been on 4 different strings now. Each fail and my cognitive ability is worse each second.  I look back and don't even remember putting the earlier pictures up. If I do anything inappropriate I apologize in advance.  This is the worst thing in the world. My once not too bad of a mind is gone. I started rounding 4 some planking today. I'm gonna try something simple

Hi Doug,

When the time comes, just as an FYI, if you have not seen it, there are two new build logs on the Bounty launch that may interest you in the scratch build forum.  One is for a large scale, and the other for 1:48 (which can be changed for whatever is needed.)   It is set up so anyone can build it with a minumum of tools.

IF this is of interest, let me know and I can PM or email you (or anyone interested) the drawings at whatever scale you want.

Allan

When I have to install nails I predrill the holes, add a tidge of CA to the nail tip and use my nailer to push it home, but not to far being very careful not to leave a "halo" around the nail head.  I've found the blunt end of my X-Acto handle or the butt end of my tweezers help to push the nail down just that little extra bit.

Take care and be safe.
