Mary, I had this done three years ago. Take it easy, and do the PT. I bought a reusable hip ice pack, and a battery powered massager, to help break up the adhesions.

If you don't have one, buy a hospital bed, even a cheap one, it helps to sit in it when you get really soar. It is much easier to get out of than a recliner. I put one in a spare room, and mounted a large screen TY on the wall at the end, I used a long HDMI cord to the TV and wireless mouse and keyboard, to place the computer in an adjacent room. This kept the room less cluttered, and let me use it from the bed.

My surgeon required isolation from all my pets for a time, and this allowed me to keep entertained away from them.

I had my right hip done 3 years ago.  Unfortunately I picked up a virus (I can't think of the name, but it was something similar to MRSA) and it got infected.  They had to do a second surgery to remove the infected tissue and I had to wear a wound vac, which just like it's name implies, constantly suctioned the wound to keep bacteria from building up again.  I had a physical therapist come to the house because that was easier than having Kurt drive me around with the wound-vac attached.  I also had a special nurse come by who cleaned my wound and changed the filters on the wound-vac.

I'm having this hip done by a different surgeon.  My first surgeon hadn't done many hip surgeries, but he was recommended to me by my primary physician, so I said OK.  My gripe with this surgeon is that I kept telling him something was wrong with the incision (it stank like rotten meat!!), but he kept telling me not to worry and he would check it in two weeks when I went in for my post op appointment.  When the puss started pouring out, I called his office and told them I was coming right over!  He looked at it and told me to head straight to the hospital.  They did surgery that evening to remove the infected tissue and called in an infectious disease specialist who determined what it was and got me on the right antibiotics after the hospital had tried 3 or 4 others.

The surgeon that I am going to this time does over 500 surgeries a year.  I keep bumping into some of his other patients and they have nothing but good words for him.  I am hoping for much better results this time!
